Associating a folder with a standard identity is great for composing NEW mail. So far, the Add-on is perfect.

However, the Add-on overrides the standard Thunderbird behavior when REPLYING -- where Thunderbird beautifully chooses the identity, based on one's own mail address that the original mail was SENT to.

When the Folder Account Add-on is active however, it chooses the wrong identity most of the time when replying to an e-mail.

This problem applies when you use more than one identity in the same folder (e.g. when you have two work addresses and use both in the "work" folder, or two private addresses and use both in the "private" folder).

It would therefore be much better if the Folder Account Add-on would only jump in when composing NEW mail -- and leave Thunderbird to pick the correct "From" address when REPLYING.

Thanks already for consideration.

A very useful add-on. Special thanks to gilshwartz for the fix!

Still a great add-on for version 24, just need a very small fix.
In the file "folderAccount_compose.xul" found within the .xpi file under "chrome/content", replace the string gAccountManager with the string MailServices.accounts and all is fine again.
This is a must extension for anyone managing accounts with multiple identities sorted to different folders.

This most excellent add on very sadly seems to have some conflict with other add ons in TB24. I've not yet sorted which other add on is responsible but if I don't disable Folder Account then when creating a new email I can't type anything in the main window, it defaults to HTML (I always use plain text) and the sender field in the email is blank. Neither does a reply quote the text from the email to which a reply is being sent.

I'd still give this add on an unreserved five stars: it's brilliant. Just be aware there may be a problem with TB24.

Thought it didn't work any longer until I realized that the folder to be modified should also be the one selected in the Folder Pane (Ubuntu 13.04 with TB 17.0.5). If not (using the context menu of another folder), all your identities are jammed.

This add-on seems to conflict with the option mail.server.default.check_all_folders_for_new.

Took a little while for me to realise that I needed to look at folder properties for each folder (I was looking in account settings). Once I had that sorted it worked like a dream.

it was a problem to get working as I had two folders under one account with different id and consequently wanted a different id used on each folder. instead it would change one then when I went to the second one to give id it would also change the first one.
However, I then did reply on each folder on an email and then reset folder properties and it then worked.
this was on tb 10; putting it here as it may help others...

Thanks to FTL for the instructions. I was unable to make it work on Windows XP PC (xpi was reported as "corrupted" by TB), but was able to do it on Linux CentOS server using unzip and zip utilities.
Thought this might help others who may be having trouble.

As Olav Seyfarth noted in his review of March 1, 2011, the rdf file can be edited to change em:maxVersion from 3.1.* to a later version of TB, in this case 5.0.* (or 5.1.*, etc.)

Instructions:

Download the add-on to your PC and unzip the xpi file. The unzip will create the folder "folder_account-3.1-tb".

In this folder, edit install.rdf using Wordpad or a similar plain text editor, and change em:maxVersion to 5.0.*

Save the changes, then create a new zip file from the contents of the folder.

Rename the zip file to: folder_account-3.1-tb.xpi

Open TB5 and in the Add-ons Manager click the icon to the left of the Search all add-ons box, and choose option Install Add-on from file.

Select the xpi file above, and run the install.

Folder Account will then work with TB5, and your previous settings will be retained.

Just want I needed. Let's me reply to mailing-list messages using my normal email address instead of the special one I use to receive the messages.

A must-have AddOn if you receive mail for multiple users or identities and you use filters to move incoming messages into different folders in one account. Newer TB versions are able to REPLY using the current folder as SENT but not to select your ID if you compose a NEW message. If you modify install.rdf (a pain text file, just set maxVersion to "3.3.*") inside the XPI file (which is just a ZIP), it also works fine with current TB nightlies (tested with 3.3a3pre).

It does not work with sub folders. I have a number of sub folders under the local folders, and if I sent the identity of one sub folder, that identity is used by default on all sub folders.

I've gotten very used to having this add-on installed, and really noticed the loss when I upgraded Thunderbird and Folder Account no longer worked. Now that the author has updated it, I have it back. I have separate folders set up for different people, etc., and with Folder Account, when replying from that account, the recipient email is filled in automatically, and the correct signature is attached. This is actually the only add-on I currently use with Thunderbird.

Folder Account 3.1, TB 3.1.1 FR

Problem with multiple identities:
Select a local folder, Right click => Properties => General Information => From account => drop down list of possibilities

This drop down list lists all multiple identities using the same common account name instead of using the different names of the multiple identities, resulting in a confusing list of identical references (which is which ?).
