After the first try I like this extension quite well, but I'd like to have an option of opening left-clicked URLs from mail in a new tab and at the same time opening left-clicked URLs from ThunderBrowse tab in the same tab. Now it's either always new tab, whether from mail or ThunderBrowser, or always the same tab.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.6.8).

This was/is fixed in the next version of ThunderBrowse (version 3.2.7). It should be out soon.

ok, nice and interesting idea but what about cache? where extension stores downloaded data, how i can clear it?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.6.8).

ThunderBrowse uses the same cache as Thunderbird does. You can clear it via Options < Advanced < Network & Disk Space and click the Clear now button.

Good idea, but I could not figure out how to use it for one simple task: Open Google Calendar WebSite in one simple tab next to my e-mail tab.

Instead, I got URL bars on top in each mail (WTF?! Where can I turn this off?). If I double click a mail to get a new tab, I can use the URL bar to surf. But as soon as I switch to mail tab and back to web tab, there is the mail again which I used to create a new tab which makes the whole concept implode.

This extension could have been very useful, but at least one of the following assumptions are true:

* I am too stupid to use it although I use TB many years or
* it is not compatible with TB 3.0 final or
* the extension is a mess

Give it a try but do not expect too much.

It earns one star because the uninsall worked (for me).

Yes, tab switching resets the message pane. This is a well known bug and from what I can tell it seems to be that Thunderbird recreates it's tabs (thus sharing the same tab elements) on switches. This would be the reason stuff refreshes.

The FAQ told you how to turn off the URL bar on all tabs. Not my fault you didn't read it. In addition, you could have tried the tabs build if you wanted your tabs to be broken out from the main messagepane.

Hi,
This is a very awesome addon. However I would like to know if there is any way to play videos, like you tube videos and so on. It doesn't seem to work for me. I am using Thunderbird 2.0

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.6.5).

You need to have Thunderbird 3 or higher to use media plugins like flash. Youtube will not work unless you have flash on Thunderbird 3.

I installed this to try it out and then installed the update thinking it might just fix the problems I had with the uninstall.
no such luck I cannot get rid of this thing and it makes my thinderbird unstable!

This does not work properly with Postbox and needs further work to integrate the browser window properly. Currently unusable as an Addon for Postbox.

Me again. After an hour of frustration I still can't open links in mail. I looked at ThunderBrowse FAQ about uninstallation problems. I deleted the profile files as instructed - no go. I tinkered around trying to find about:config but cannot find it and don't understand the instructions I found online to do this. So, unless you are a developer, I advise you NOT TO INSTALL THIS ADDON!!!
Seriously.
Now I have to junk my entire email & RSS feed reader system and start over again. To say I am frustrated is an understatement.
BTW I'm using a MacBook.

I am sorry but I must give this a very low rating. I read the reviews and decided to try it. So I installed it, tried it, but it didn't meet my needs. I uninstalled it and completely re-booted the computer. Now I cannot, for the life of me, open links within an email. This makes me so unhappy I could cry. Seriously. I had my multiple account and RRS feed system working perfectly and now it is completely frakked. So take seriously all the reviews that say uninstallation is problematic and add my voice to that chorus.

I have a couple of gripes against this. But first, the good. I only installed it so that I can configure which browser should links from thunderbird open in - that was it. And it did its job.
Now, the bad. For this simple functionality that I needed, this seems too large a piece of software. And I realized I could set browser preferences through about:config.
And then the uninstall part is really bad. While it uninstalls peacefully (or so it seems) it leaves around a bunch of preferences in prefs.js which have to be deleted manually. Why?
Overall - too many chinks in the armour.

ThunderBrowse is a browser extension for a mail client. It has browser features that make it accessible. It's designed to be a browser.

If you wanted just to fix browser link launches, there's a totally different extension for that problem. Look up BrowsrBounce, it derives from the same codebase as ThunderBrowse but only includes the link fixing feature.

Very useful. Thanks ... Only one thing I did not like: icons are ugly.

I try to use it to open the to-do list of Remember the Milk, but don't know why it cannot login.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.6.1).

Yes, ThunderBrowse cannot log into websites that use https very well. I've stated this on the FAQ, the blog and on this page as well.

Cookies are a problem with Thunderbird. There are several workarounds to this but if none of them work then you should just wait for Thunderbird's cookie bugs to be resolved.

Don't forget to try CS Lite.

Wastes space and I can't get rid of it!
After installing it saw how much room it took up - too much. Knew it wouldn't serve much purpose (I can't download everything), so removed it completely. When computer restarted, it was still there, and as it is now. Keeps telling me it'll be removed once I restart my computer...
What do I do? - it's very annoying now, taking up at least half the page, all the time!!! HELP

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.6.1).

Wastes space? It's 256KB. That's nothing. Seriously. If you think 256KBs is a ton, then you need to upgrade your Hard Drive to something bigger than 12MB. It's not a large file size, it's fairly small compared to other popular extensions.

As for uninstalling: You have a problem with your profile and locked files. There's an FAQ entry on the website about it. Here's a link: http://www.thunderbrowse.com/thunderblog/faq/#nouninstall

And "After installing it saw how much room it took up - too much", even though it barely adds anything, I guess you are an extreme minimalist, eh? :P

Excellent. Exceptionally convenient. UI is simple and friendly. Nice conversational tone in the prompts and explanations. Good set of useful features that aren't overly-technical. Written by a developer who without a doubt cares about delivering useful, quality applications.

Useful plugin.
Doesn't work with Apache authentication (.htaccess) like in PHPMyAdmin. Im receiving email reports from site behind such authentication, so i cant see them in this plugin.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.4).

That's a new bug and I just filed a bug report on it.

I'm getting it from my end too. The current workaround would be adding the username and password to the url, like:

http://username:password@example.com/path/

That works, but I'm not sure why the dialog doesn't show up. I'm pretty sure it used to. But I'll check.

In the mean time, thanks for using ThunderBrowse.

Szeretem, megszoktam, sajnos egy vírustámadás után törölnöm kellett. De megkerestem újra és letöltöttem, telepítettem. Nagyszerű eszköz hírolvasáshoz.

Not worth it and difficult to uninstall completely.

What exactly did you have problems with? Can you explain why it was difficult to uninstall?

其他都很好,不过我用GOOGLE或是baidu用中文搜索的时候,会变成乱码,无法匹配搜索,不是很明白。是我自己设置的问题还是软件不支持。

Hopefully you can understand English as I cannot write in Chinese:

The problem you illustrate is a known bug with character encoding. I do not have a keyboard that supports other characters nor do I have the language packs or the knowledge of the language (to compare strings). A few people have tried to help but stopped responding to emails a long, long time ago. Character encoding is a huge problem as some websites accept character encoding, while a majority of others do not, thus making it difficult in trying to please both sides.

Support for plugins is only for 3.2.3 and above when using TB3.0b1 and up.

You cannot use plugins on TB2.
