Great add-on. Works well with Google contacts. I switched to Cardbook when gContactSync quit working and have never looked back.

Works great for syncing my contacts from my Android phone with Thunderbird! When I need to send an email, I mostly do it from my mobile phone. I don't use Gmail, but my contacts are stored in Google Contacts. Sometimes it is useful to have my email on my laptop, so I installed Thunderbird. It took some time googling and looking through extension reviews before I picked this one. After installing it took some more googling before I figured out how I could link the address book with Google Contacts, but it was just a matter of finding the right item in the menu. Thanks for creating this extension!

This addon is great, but there is a visual problem. Some panels are using the system theme instead of your chosen thunderbird theme and it ends up looking very weird. Example: https://i.imgur.com/VqnVIDG.jpg

This is happening in Linux but maybe it also happens on Windows, but since default Windows theme is similar to the theme of Thunderbird it doesn't look so weird on Windows.

which theme do you use ? I don't have this on Ubuntu... (cardbook (at) cardbook.icu)

Bonne continuation. Jean-Luc

EDIT: I have updated to 5 stars. The developer is very quick to respond and provide the information to allow this to work. That type of service is incredible. It is a 5 star product when it works. I'm thinkng that the latest Thunderbird update created some issues.

Developer provided a new .xpi that I could not get from Thunderbird. Surprisingly great customer service.

Prior review: Honest to god, why cant someone do a program that just plain works. 2 problems: I cannot add a contact - PERIOD no matter how many times I try.

edit again....it is not downloading current google contacts. very disappointing as I am running on 4 machines and now must look elsewhere.

It does not even sync anymore. I deleted and added again...no luck.

Also, as someone mentioned, I cannot scroll down without it going back to the top.

If these issues have been fixed, putting them out to resolve would help.

Hi

may you contact me by email : cardbook (at) cardbook.icu ?

Center pane scrolls down, but instantly shoots right back up to the top. Not really usable this way...

this behaviour only happens during a sync... I should improve this...

The developer is very responsive and fixed the issue in just a few days with many emails back and forth to understand the problem. He even came out with 2 new versions during that time to resolve it. Very impressive.

Ensuite, automatiquement.
Ai-je manqué cette fonctionnalité?

yes, this functionality does not still exist, good idea, but I have to think a few on this...

Best vCard implementation currently available for Thunderbird, for me a must-have addon, works with Google Contacts flawlessly.

It to be very good ad-on, however, since mid of February it does not synchronise any more.

EDIT: After recreating the address book as described below by Philippe it works again. Thank you for your help. Now six stars again.

may you contact me by email : cardbook (at) cardbook.icu

Edit : try to recreate your Google address book into CardBook (right click on your current address book, "New Address Book", then second entry "Remote", then second entry "Google", then enter your email address, Click on validate, click OK to the two consent screens, then Next many times... once it's done, remove your old CardBook address book...

Edit : for the consent screen, follow the Google instructions, and finally click on the Authorize button, CardBook will close this window when the code is received so do not close this window on your own ;)

--- update ---
Got immediate response from the developer on this review withe explanation about my errors.
Support can be found at: https://cardbook.icu/forum/ mentioned here (I'm sorry I overlooked that one going straight tho the start page https://gitlab.com/CardBook/CardBook mentioned in the add-on in Thunderbird itself).
So based on the response and support found at the forum I give it a big plus now!

--- Original review ---
Looks nice but makes a mess of all my contacts, removes birthdays and shows Thunderbird address books double (I don't know why). Since I can find no support or help here nor on https://gitlab.com/CardBook/CardBook I tried the following to resolve this:
1) Removed the CardBook add-on from thunderbird;
2) Restarted thunderbird;
3) Deleted all my Google contacts online;
4) Deleted al my contacts in Thunderbird;
5) Reimported my thunderbird contacts and address books;
6) reinstalled this add-on, hoping it will ask for my address books again.

Now guess what?
* All my contacts and address books still show double in CardBook in Thunderbird! No not in the address book of Thunderbird itself only in CardBook.
* And Thunderbird now locks up because it asks if I want to keep or delete a contact because it is not in Google anymore. Which IS a nice feature wasn't is so that CardBook is asking me the same question for EVERY SINGLE contact and not for the whole bunch of - in my case - 5145 contacts at once!

So with no explanation while installing, no support page available, removing birthdays from my calendar, no way to handle a large quantity of contacts and messing contacts and address books up in a undefinable way this add-on gets a zero for now.

I hope it will be better and more clear in the future because I would still like to use it after all... Thanks!

to let you know : all of this stuff is caused by Google servers... when you create a new event, a new contact or a new category with a unique ID, Google accepts these new objects then computes on them and attributes them a new fresh id... So when you sync again, all of these appear to new on the server and the ones you created are considered to be deleted.... this is not easy to handle... with Carddav servers, Apple, etc... you don't have such a mess...

What you have to do is only recreate a new Google address book in CardBook (And delete the old one in CardBook). Don't delete contacts directly. If this does not solve your issue, email me directly to cardbook (at) cardbook.icu

For the birthdays, everytime you change the event name, CardBook will create new events (as IDs are not reliable, CardBook search for names)...

Picked up all my Google contacts. A recent update has also added Categories though it has not added all of them from my account...

yes for sure it's possible, add the column "Name" in the contacts view, remove the column "Display Name", then in CardBook preferences, second tab, in the "Show Name As" paragraph, you may choose the format of the column "Name"
