The code in the documentation was wrong and it has been replaced. Apparently that code fixed the problem... I can't wait to see the fix coded in the extension! It will work then... For those who used the workaround, it will have to be reversed...

Before, it didn't work so well, but NOW it does !
I'm switching language every five minutes between French and English, and this simply does the trick !
Most of the time the dictionary switch is automatic, and if not, it's only a click away.
A real time saver this is !!!
Thanks !

... anymore in TB 24.01, whereas version 1.15 did perfectly.
And I am neither able nor eager to make the (at least two) complicated modifications suggested by the author.
Therefore I disabled this add-on, and will remove it if no functioning version appears soon.
Sorry, because it was really useful and deserved 5 stars.

Though it was great in the past it keeps freezing FF for several minutes on specific sites (e.g. facebook)

Ditto Mortaest comment. Very annoying all the constant script crashes.
Dao Gottwald (MrWarper), could you please explain further how to do your recommended fix (see below)?
<< Edit the install.rdf file inside any dictionaries folders or .xpi archives (check under both your profile and application folders just in case) and delete / comment out the line "<em:type>64</em:type>" >>

Very good idea, I always need to switch between several languages...
But scripts crashes and so does firefox (new 25 version doesn't correct that)

Just installed, my dictionaries are showing fine without any tweak needed. But the option to detect "as I type" it's not working at all.

Very useful addon for people using multiple languages.Unfortunately neither developing, nor support seems to be active.I've sent email over 2 weeks ago with a patch for Firefox that fixes current issues with type64 and some other fixes, haven't received a reply nor it has been fixed.
I'm giving 1 star just to get attention, will update to 5 stars (what this addon actually deserves) after receiving any acknowledge from developers.

Additionally to removing the em:type-line you also need to remove the em:bootstrap-line, if you find one in the install.rdf of the dictionary.

Hi Dao and Mr. Warper, we still wait for an update :) :) because the actual version 1.3.2 do not work with new dictionaries which now are saved in dictionary folder (and not in the addon folder)please give us an update ;)

For some reason, when the extension start to look for the language of the text, the extension makes FF crash. It not happens all the time. Start with an script error, and no matter witch option you choose ("stop script" or "continue") FF crash, later recover, the error appear again and crash again, and again, and again.

I have the add-on since 1 or 2 years installed and in the beginning it worked nice somehow. But mostly I rightclick into the text-fields to switch the language.. and now after reinstalling FF and my add-ons (including some dictionaries) the dict-switcher shows no dictionary in the list (there is just a blank entry) and I cannot switch between the dictionaries by clicking the switcher.
So this add-on becomes somehow useless because it does nothing else as wasting space and time..

It's nice to switch between dictionaries. However, on Linux, thunderbird uses the dictionaries installed on the system. By installing the german and english dictionaries, you automatically get dictionary for austrian german or for australian english. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure, my system does not only provide en_GB but also the -ize'ed and -ise'ed variants of it.
Now there are 3 issues:
- The plugin doesn't sort the dictionaries and they appear in random order making it hard to find the right one (e.g. de_DE or en_GB) in the list
- The plugin does not allow to blacklist/whitelist and of the dictionaries. For example, I basically need 3: en_GB (if possible the -ize'ed variant), en_US, and de_DE for my email. Yet, the list contains all dictionaries that I will never use.
- The dictionary variants of en_GB don't appear in the list and I cannot chose whether I want the -ize or -ise endings.
Hence, only 3 of 5 stars.

I am using Dictionary switcher with Thunderbird 17 on Kubuntu 12.04. I can reproducibly get the problem with a hanging app (max CPU load) when I turn on the "autodetect" feature. (extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect) and just start typing a few letters into the subject line of a newly opened e-mail.
If I turn off the autodetect feature, I can do the same thing without any problem. (Tested 3 times both ways.)
Sorry to post here, as I cannot see how to contact the developers, nor where to file a bug or find the forum -- at least there is no hint on this web page.

Sorry, this is a bug report, but I couldn't find any other way to contact the author.
From time to time, the extensions hangs in an infinite loop at chrome://dictionary-switcher/content/browser.js:226. Looks like a problem with the list iteration code, but I don't know how to debug an extension.
Appart from that, great extension. It would be great if you could fix that.

unfortunately the given solution doesn't work. This is what I also did: I copied the .dic and .aff files of my dictionary to /Program Files/Mozilla/dictionaries. That did it.
