------------- English version -------------

Super extension which takes over from Xnote very well. My only negative comment comes from the importants permissions (perhaps rightly) that are requested.

An idea for the developer: offer the option to integrate the note field just next to the message reading pane instead of a floating note. It would be much more convenient for those who use this function heavily.

Many thanks for this work!

Is it possible to translate the extension into italian?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.6.1).

Sure. Please contribute translation. Here you can grab en locale:

https://github.com/mlazdans/qnote/blob/master/_locales/en/messages.json

Save it UTF-8 encoded and send to support email.

Thanks!

Great tool. My only gripe is that I can't figure out how to do certain things with the keyboard (I get bad RSI from overusing the mouse). I can't work out how to save and close a note or how to modify a note (you can access "modify" from the context menu, but the window doesn't get the focus. So it currently requires mouse use. If it could be made keyboard friendly I'd give it a 5.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.6.0).

Will take a look on how to add some keyboard shortcuts, thanks for idea.

You can get window to auto focus after checking "Focus Qnote" in settings.

Update: please try out 0.6.1 version and Alt+Q shortcut

Thank you so much! QNote (XNote++) is absolutely necessary for us!

Excellent, excellent, excellent. Great job and as everyone else has said, you've helped us all continue to be very productive using our favorite email client.

Many thanks!

I installed and tested 0.5.3 - it's marvellous, about everything is working now! Even the note's position is restored (like in XNote++ before) - after you've set its position once using QNote.
One thing strange though: when I change tabs in Thunderbird (e.g. from [Inbox] to [Add-ons]) while a QNote is open, this note is kept open in the new tab. XNote++ closed the note as soon as the tab changed.

This is awesome. Thanks for porting XNote++.
I installed 0.4 and tried importing my old notes and they don't show up.
I tried with the "Inside extension" setting and by using the "Local folder".
When set to "Inside extensions" and clicking on the "Import legacy XNotes" button, I get the following report:
Import finished:
imported notes - 0
errored notes - 0
existing notes - 12
Why is the imported notes set to 0?
Once the import works, this will be a 5 star.
Thanks for your efforts!

Update: The import works properly. I was looking in the wrong folder for the notes! 5 stars!!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.4).

"existing notes - 12" means 12 notes has been already imported before. You can do export storage and open it in any .json reader to see contents.

Do you have checkbox checked to open notes automatically? If not then QNote button should light up in message pane.

Thank you for Version 0.0.4 and the option to store notes in a custom folder like xnote++ did. This is REALY usefull if you want to share note between several users by having a common folder with the note in a dropbox.

If you know can bring back the column with the notes, this add on is perfect.

Big thank you and thumbs up!

I am very grateful that you have got QNote working to replace XNote++. It found my XNotes and behaves similarly to XNote, with three drawbacks as far as I can see:
(1) There is no toolbar button any longer where you can create a new note - you must use the context menu of an email. Different, but acceptable.
(2) There is no header column any longer, where you can display a qnote icon column in the emails list, with which you were able to see at a glance which email has a XNote / QNote and even could sort on it. This is inconvenient.
(3) QNote does not memorize the note position, but opens always right in the middle of my primary display. Annoying, because you cannot get the notes out of the center, where everything else also is popping up.
What I really like is the ability to import old XNotes and to export QNotes.
Thanks a lot for your work! I would be glad if you could add a QNote column and make the QNote positionable.

Update 21.09.2020:
(1) Thanks @Martins, I just ignored the button where it resides, because I expected it in the TB toolbar.
(2) brilliant!
(3) sad, but anyway: It works, that's the most important thing!
@ths: I already discovered what you propose, but tnak you anyway for your comment!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.4).

1 - there should be button next to where message controls are (reply, forward, etc)
2 - adding column is work in progress
3 - note positions are saved but ar not effective because new TB APIs currently does not allow setting windows position

So, discovered the legacy notes did in fact import with .2 version, but then updated to .4 version and now they've all disappeared. I did an export after updating, just in case, but I had seen the imported legacy notes (at least after clicking the QNote button each time I view the email, which is not logistically feasible as people simply aren't going to click the button each time and usage will fall off completely) then the update happened and now they are all gone.

Additionally, when I go to reimport them, the browse window states there are no files to do so.

I want to attempt a reload or import the backup I did, but I'm afraid I will lose the legacy notes (in their QNote form) entirely if I do.

Any workaround? Thanks for your quick work to update things and for trying at all. I know it must be frustrating that it doesn't have the exact functionality of XNote, but keep trying! =:xB

Thanks for bringing this up to my attention. Looks like extension storage resets each time extension gets an upgrade. Will take a look on more permanent option.

You can re-import older notes and no existing notes will be deleted. It can only overwrite note if same message-id already exists in current environment.

Thanks for qnote. But I use a public emailaccount with my colleagues and they cant see my note!! And I cant see theres. Can you please fix this? We all where using Xnote so this is a little bit of a bummer. And please give Qnote an automatic colour if you put a note to it. Now even I cant see if I put a note to it :(.

Saving note into folder is with version 0.4.

You can configure use tag with a color of your choice.

I can't delete a note. I hit the button [X] and it desapears, but when I return to the message the note reappears.

Thank you very much for this Add-On!
Its great that this will bring the functionality of XNote to Thunderbird 78.
Screen Position would be nice if it can be saved in dependency of the thunderbird window, and / or save last position, where the note is placed to.

Is there a way to support your work?

I am -very- glad to again have the ability to make new notes 'Q' or 'X'! Thanks Martins!

However, when I attempted the import legacy xnotes function, initially it gave an error, so I restarted TBird, then it completed the import, showing the popup confirmation, but I still am not seeing the legacy notes.

I have not attempted a restart as I'm using my work computer via remote from home and don't like to initiate restart from a remote connection whenever possible.

I would agree with the reviewer who kept their review on the XNote++ extension page regarding note position retention and making sure notes disappear when moving to other emails. (though I have not played around with it, only announced the fix to our grateful staff *whew*)

Keep up the great work and yeah, go collect that bounty when the import is confirmed functional. (which I will not be able to do until Saturday at the earliest) =:xB
