FireFTP on Firefox 6.0
I too experienced "Alas! problem.
Download of add-on
FireFTP button
was my solution.
Hope this helps

There's been some reorganization in the new Firefox. The new FireFTP button is listed under Tools->Web Developer. Alternatively, you can also add it to the toolbar by customizing - see also: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars

Until fairly recently, FireFTP has worked pretty well for me. But, with the move to Firefox 6.x, the listing of FireFTP has disappeared from my Tools Menu. Searching the Web, I see that such disappearances did not begin with version 6; they've been happening to users for years. What I've not found is anything on the FAQ about how to fix the problem. That silence is itself a documentation bug, evidently persistent.

I guess that I'll shift to stand-alone FTP utilities.

Currently on FF6.

I've had this extension lurking around since I had FF 3.5 installed. I like the versatility of hitting a button and being logged into my server, but the biggest roadblock I find is that when loading directories which have many files, it causes the "unresponsive script" dialogue. If I keep hitting continue, and waiting a few times it'll eventually kick through and load the directory, but it will do this for both my local one (upon opening the window) and for the remote directory also. In the end, it becomes a huge hassle to wait, and the convenience is lost.

So basically, if you're in the market to do a few small moves in a small directory or two, you're good. Don't try to use this in its current state for more heavy-duty work.

I've been using Fire FTP for about three years now. It's easy, convenient, and reliable. Updates have been readily available when upgrading the browser. I just went from FF 3.6 to FF 5.0.1 and it updated effortlessly.

I don't know what I think yet. I'm just thinking on learning how to create my own, brand-new, browser add-on(s).

Simply the best in-browser FTP client available.

I love this program, but since upgrading to Firefox 5, I have had to reinstall FireFTP every single time I open Firefox 5. It just won't stay put. The icon disappears and the program just isn't there to choose. When going into extensions, it no longer appears as if it was ever downloaded, even though I must download and install it at least once a day. There is no way to communicate on the author's webpage to let him know there is a problem. I must say, though, that once it is reinstalled, the settings are all there for the program as they were all along. I don't need to put in the IP address or anything again. It is all there. It is a great program, but for now there is just a challenge. I just know he will fix it.

Just bit the bullet and upgraded. It holds onto all previous accounts and works just fine when upgrading from FF4 --definitely a better experience than going from FF3 -> FF4!

Since FireFTP is out - I love it. And with the knowledge about Mime Čuvalo and his projects it is the most personal add-on I use. In teaching HTML at school it is also my favorite example of open-source-programming, to show pupils that this kind of software is much more than just a 'no-cost'-software.
Danke!

Note that you must use version 1.0.10 or earlier on Firefox 3.x. This add-on is no longer compatible with Firefox 3.x or earlier. (Which makes the current versions useless on Macs, since Firefox 4 on the Mac remains unusable.)

You can use an older version that works with Firefox 3.6: version 1.0.10 available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fireftp/versions/
