After Google changed their API, the addon had some problems. However it seems that the developer has worked really fast, fixing the bugs related to the new API.
I have been using this addon for more that a year, and it works most of the time really great with all my google calendars (I blame googles old API, when there were problems).
Happy to see that the developer keeps working on the project.

Had nothing but trouble with ver. 1.01 - kept losing sync with Google calendar, events disappearing in Thunderbird, repeating event parameters garbled, etc. Rolling back to ver. 0.32 fixed everything.

Since I read a lot of ratings complaining about issues with Google's Authentication service, I want to share my solution to this problem:
After updating to version 1.0.1 my calendars stopped syncing. So I first uninstalled and reinstalled the addon and then deleted my google password from the thunderbirds known-password-list (Extras->Settings->Security->Passwords->saved Passwords).
Then - after deleting all remained old google calendars - i added a new google calendar. The Addon asks for Authentication and then provides a list of your available calendars.
I hope it helps some of you with this issue. I really like this Addon because I have not found any other solution, that allows me to write to an online calendar (very useful for calendars used on muliple devices)

Reverted back to Ver: 31.1.2 and this add-on is working again. CalDAV option can't compete with this one.

Its disappointing to see that this software is not working. But the nearest possible alternative i found is ThunderCal 1.1 which helps you open your gmail calendar in thunderbird just as Lightning does. Hope this helps

After updating Thunderbird to 31.2 today, I also updated Provider for Google calendar to 1.01 and Lightning was updated to 3.3.1. At this point, upon TB startup, I was prompted for what looks like password for my Google Calendar, however, the popup window was all blank - couldn't enter anything.
After doing some research, I found that some people had better luck with reverting back to version 0.32, so I did the same, and my calendar works now.
I am running on Windows 7 Home Premium (up-to-date).

The post from PeterR on October 15, 2014 pointed me to the solution to use CalDAV.
Got it working again. Thanks PeterR.

Unfortunately this page is in Dutch, changing hl=nl to hl=en does not provide the same info. The English page has much less information than the Dutch page.
So here is a translated page.

Unfortunately, with version 1.0.1 things seem to have crashed. Very rarely does any sincroniozação. Masd is far from what was previously a shame. I hope that improves.

Update ---
As mentioned, I deleted the calendar, deleted the passwords, removed and reinstalled the extension. It is working now and has since I preformed the fix.
I am sure that someone is busy trying to fix this but the handshake / sync of google calendars is broken. It worked but then it stopped working. Is it the new googleapi address instead of the https?
On ly Linux box I rolled back to an older version of Provider, a version that uses the HTTPS address and so far it is working.
Installing a new google calendar doesn't work. If you try it, you will reach a screen that stays blank, as though it is waiting for something or someone.
I've had to install a firefox work around.
Rolled back to older versions on Linux and Windows and now --- so far --- everything is working.

Version 0.32 worked simply excellent. The update to 1.0.1 came unfortunately automatically. Suddenly a query for account username and password popped up, behaviour like a virus. A short intro would have been highly recommended. And then..... the calendar was spoiled and didn't work at all. (platform Win7 as well as Win8). Back to 0.32 and things were all right again. Version 1.0.1 can not be recommended. A serious fix has to be carried out. It should be taken off the current list or marked as alpha trial.
