This has been a great tool for me in the last few years but now it just does not work anymore.
I tried removing all Google calendars and clearing the saved passwords. Then I created a new calendar, after I sign in from the authorization popup I'm left with a "Locate your calendar" dialog with nothing listed, it's just empty. Suggestion on what I could try next? Reinstall the extension, maybe? It really saddens me that I can't make it work, please give me back my calendars!!!
EDIT: thanks Philipp but I don't have Thunderbirthday installed. All my extensions are Lightning, Clippings and this one.

Please disable the Thunderbirthday extension temporarily

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
TBird 31.2.0
Add-ons: Google Calendar Tab 3.9,
Lightning 3.3.1, Message Menu Unity Launch 1.3.1,
Provider for Google Calendar 1.0.1

In the past 2 weeks I have gone from having JUST G Calendar sync with TBird, to (momentarily) having Calendar AND Tasks sync w/ TBird (a moment of pure elation) to having neither one sync at this moment. I have tried deleting calendars and re-adding them (numerous times) and deleting saved passwords in preferences (as some are suggesting today) with NO success. I have also tested other mild solutions recommended here to no avail.

In my case (by the way) whenever I create a new calendar and choose the "Google Calendar" format, THE LOCATION FIELD DISAPPEARS EVERY TIME!!! I am therefore FORCED to add the location in the iCal (ICS) format. I would be curious to know what this indicates to anyone out there or if anyone has the same issue. Where do we stand and will the flickering miracle return??

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1).

The location field disappearing is actually a feature :-) I know this may not be apparent to users that are used to it being there from before, but as soon as you click on the next button (make sure you have Thunderbirthday disabled in case you use that), you will see a wonderful new calendar picker.

I will consider adding a label that describes this a future version.

This provided worked as expected before, but since the 1.0 version, it does so much more than that! It is now MUCH easier to add as many of your Google Calendars as you'd like. It also carries over the calendar colour, which is a great touch! And task support works flawlessly and obviates the need for other addons! Thanks Philipp for such a great addon. Good job and keep doing what you do best.

If only someone could do the same for an outlook provider.

Giving this one star is one star too many. I should not need to use my degree in computer science to arm-wrestle something that should be plug and play. Also, the FAQ is completely unhelpful since it doesn't correspond to ANYTHING that currently exists in either software. It's an absurdity to think we're going to wade through all that when half of it is junk. You want ten bucks for this? then make it work and install seamlessly without tricks or support or wild-goose chases. My rating: Craptacular......

(edited 20141021, following developer's reply)
It doesn't work and you want me to pay you for 'support' -- what planet are you on? When it WORKS, then I'll happily pay for it; when the documentation is RIGHT, I'll happily contribute to the programmer's success. Asking for money when something doesn't work demonstrates your intentions are more for making a buck than getting it right.

The current version has been a major update and I'm sorry its causing issues for you. I'm doing my best to manage issues with the time I have available, I just haven't gotten around to updating the FAQ yet. I did test the versions before they went out, and so did lots of people subscribed to the bug that accompanied this release, but with your degree in computer science I'm sure you know there are always issues not found during testing.

If you are still interested in getting this working, maybe you should bite the bullet and make use of the support possibilities. Possibly the support quality will give you incentive to spend $10 on it.

works great with method listed below. The only thing I can add is be patient when an account syncs for the first time, it seems to take a couple of minute during which T-bird is slow. (I added 2 accounts, each with 4 calenders each and it took 3-4 minutes for them to sync and for T-bird to become normally responsive).
Best part is two-factor authentication works.

This addon is really useful, but it's totally unusable if you also have the ThuderBirthday addon: in the dialog to add a calendar, the page used to choose a Google calendar is empty.

Fortunately, the fix is easy: remove the ThuderBirthday addon since it's not needed anyway: in the new version of "Provider for Google Calendar" you can just synchronize the birthday calendars that Google already has.

The below post written by logen_fk:
"Working Solution for sync problem. Takes 1-2 mins :) Works for me! Rated 5 out of 5 stars by logen_fk on October 18, 2014"
...worked! I think the key steps were 1) deleting any Google calendars and 2) going into the preferences and deleting the old passwords that have been stored. In my case, there were about 10 or so passwords saved for the same account! Not sure why Thunderbird was storing so many - but this was probably causing issues. After I deleted them all - and deleted the calendars - and then went through the process of creating them all again, everything worked as it should. (Previously when it went to the step of asking me to select the calendars I wanted to display, it was blank.)
Thanks!
Brilliant add-on, by the way - thank you so much, Philipp!

UPDATE: 21/10/2014 - it's stopped working again today. Suddenly none of my calendars are available. I tried to remove and re-add - but now the "select calendars" box comes up empty. Back to square 1. :-(

In Lightning, I use the provider to add my calendar, however; the page never finishes loading.

Below is what I just wrote about Lightning and how I now use Provider for Google Calendar to obtain perfect synchronization with my Windows Phone:

As Outlook got bulkier and bulkier for my mere contacts and calendar, and since I've use mozilla mail since the Netscape days, I was delighted to find the Lightning option. I have been using it over a year now. Optional Lightning add-ons like Tabs, etc. also.

I love the full control including colors for types of events, appointment times to the minute if needed (try THAT LookOut!) and calDAV compatibility (try THAT LookOut!)

In fact, the only issue I've had is of my own choosing. That is I love my Windows Phones, but MS refuses to recognize the calDAV standard on their calendar. You have to enter calendar data online, on one's device, or via LookOut with the "Hotmail Connector." All very unsatisfactory options. I got by for a year by having my live.com calendar subscribe to my Yahoo calendar, which was synced to my Lightning. However it synced only once per day and was read only for my calendar apps.

I do not "do" Google because of their evilness in many matters, but today I had to let the monster bite my foot. Using the Provider for Google Calendar, I now have full synchronization between my PC and my phone.

I exported my Lightning calendar as an ics file, imported that into Google Calendar, then using Provider, made a new calendar back into Lightning.

About the only thing I had to correct were the colors, since no online calendar does this, and my tasks.

All well now, sweet! I contributed $10 awhile back, and will now support Provider!

Thank you, mozilla team! Who needs LookOut? Not me!

I removed this add-on, restarted Thunderbird, installed this add-on, restarted Thunderbird, removed the calendar, removed the password from the "options", restarted Thunderbird and added the calender again. It does not ask me for a password. Is this because I used the old reference from Google?

Kind regards,
Kelly

the solution doesn´t work for me.
I am stuck at:
Add a new calendar, "Google Calendar, paste the XML Link, click next, give it a name and a color, click "next" and nothing happens. I can click a gazillion times on "Next", but nothing happens.
TB 31.2.0

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1).

Not sure where you got those instructions, but the xml link is no longer required. Just enter your email address when asked. If you have the Thunderbirthday extension enabled please disable it temporarily.

I have yet to update all documentation.

I had been struggling with the same issue. This is THE solution what was written by an other user (gegmar) on 15th of Oktober 2014:

"Since I read a lot of ratings complaining about issues with Google's Authentication service, I want to share my solution to this problem:

After updating to version 1.0.1 my calendars stopped syncing. So I first uninstalled and reinstalled the addon and then deleted my google password from the thunderbirds known-password-list (Extras->Settings->Security->Passwords->saved Passwords).

Then - after deleting all remained old google calendars - i added a new google calendar. The Addon asks for Authentication and then provides a list of your available calendars.

I hope it helps some of you with this issue. I really like this Addon because I have not found any other solution, that allows me to write to an online calendar (very useful for calendars used on muliple devices)"

I love it.

Here is a bug.

Preferences->Security->Passwords->User master password

This conflicts with the addon and makes thunderbird almost unusable. I had to remove the add-on, remove the master password and reinstall the add-on.

Hello,
the new events are synchronised with google but the old one disappeared. So I export them from google agenda and reimport in thunderbird. All is OK now. I think is due to a change in the google agenda API.
So I continue with the module.

I had to remove this and lightning, update TB and reinstall. Lightning is installed, but this gives the message that something wrong happened, try again, when I try to download.

Since I cant even download, I cant use any support form or mail to the developer...

Can you please help? Please send help via nummerskivan(at)gmail.com too, since I can't find it here if there comes to many new refs.

Hello All,

I was also searching solution after Google change the API URL and after this module comes some problem.

I build up one own cloud server (for example synology not soo expensive) which is support as well CalDaV ( and another very useful services), and very easy to set up. Now it is working well without google all of my calendars storing now there. With TB the synchronising working without problem.

So if anybody else would like to change from google calender, I offer this solution.

For publishing the calendar there is also some easy solution for example phpcalendar or the CMS system (drupal, wordpress) mainly giving module for publish calendars.

Thank your for the great add-on. The new versions works again on my computer. But the proble is, that the offline-support of the calenders are not available. Is theire a possibility to get it back?

bye bye google!

Thank you for this great addon, which I used until google changed their API.

Instead of reconfiguring all our computers to point to the new Google URL, we decided to switch to a self-hosted caldav server (like baikal, owncloud or radicale...).
