v1.04 with Lightning 3.3.3 and Thunderbird 31.5.0 on Linux Mint 17.1
After updating to the current version I saw I had no calendar entries so I deleted the google calendar and re-added it and everything was back. HTH

This used to be a very good addon which was reliable. Quality and version control has slipped and stay on what you have if it works.
I will look at moving off this addon when I get the time. What a shame but enough is enough. Given two stars as in the past it was easily a 5 star :(

This is probably a good product (I don't know yet, because I've just started using it) but it REALLY REALLY needs some clear, simple installation instructions. I spend an hour trying to figure out how to use this thing. (I know the provided instructions seem clear to the author of the software, but they were anything but clear to me.)

UPDATE:

The product author was very responsive to the installation problem I had, and is probably going to take some steps to make the process clearer. In addition, I've been using the product for a while now and it has functioned flawlessly. As a result of these things, I've changed my review from 1-star to 5-stars.

Hey Harry, sorry it turns out to be so complicated. Please contact me via email so I can better understand which part is causing trouble.

UPDATE: It looks that installing Startupmaster (https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/startupmaster/), as Philipp suggested, solved all problems. This make me think that previous problems came from unfortunate Thunderbird design, so I'm changing rate :) Thank you Philipp for solution.

I had always problems with this add-on. Few was not too annoying, like spawning many master password windows, occasionally disabling calendars, asking for Google password every Thunderbird restart. Some very annoying, like inability to dismiss event alert. But today I had to remove it because it's got crazy and has broken thunderbird (it was spawning dozens of empty windows, disabling all extensions, asking for google password every minute). That was too much.

Please try installing the Startupmaster extension in addition to the Provider.

Calender works perfect but tasks do not update in real time even after manually syncing them. The delay makes it hard to micro manage tasks.

Please fix since it seems to become a problem just recently. Also it seems its only for receiving updates i.e. I make a change via my mobile and sync with google, but the change doesnt appear on the provider. IF i change the task on the provider it'll sync properly and timely with google.

Has been reliable for me for a while now since the big API changes. Thank you so much for making this. It makes my life much better. Even when it wasn't working great it was at least some way to access google cals from Thunderbird. Don't let the entitled complainers get you down.

It still doesn't work for me. I still get "The Calendar XXX is momentarily unavailable" and can't dismiss any reminders as a result. It still shows all the events ....

Great, although it took me some time to figure out how to combine/sync the calendars from my Google accounts.

When you have instal a old version before and its not working or only 1 day do this (not mine solution!):

1. Uninstalled Provider & Lightning, shut down TB.
2. Removed the calendar-data folder
you find it here ( C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\uvvvzg0u.default)
3. Checked the folder for any Provider folders or files, if yes delete it
4. Edited prefs.js, and removed ALL references to calendar (there were numerous entries)
5. Re-started TB, and ensured everything was gone.
6. Reinstalled Lightning. Local Calendar was created
7. Rebooted TB, just to be sure.
8. Reinstalled Provider,
9 add your google mail account

Since I found lightning & the Provider for Google Calendar, I changed to the seamonkey suite for my daily business life. I am (nearly) completely satisfied!
But however - if I get Invitations, i can't accept them anymore. Additional it would be great, if any invitation could be transferred to one of my calendars - that I have to choose before. In the past all the invitations could be stored only in a "local" calendar, but I need them in my Google calendar. Export of the .ics-file and re-importing to a google calendar does work anyways, but sends additional invitations to all members of the event - so i can't use this workaround longer :-(

I followed these steps (thanks, Dave Fletcher):

0. If you still have access to your local calendar(s), export its(their) ICS data.
1. Uninstalled Provider and Lightning, shut down TB.
2. Removed the calendar-data folder from my profile folder (one could rename the folder if a backup is desired)
3. Checked my profile folder for any Provider folders or files (I would have removed them if they had been present)
4. Edited prefs.js, and removed ALL references to calendar (there were numerous entries left behind by Provider)
5. Re-started TB, and ensured everything was gone.
6. Reinstalled Lightning. Local Calendar was created (no events).
7. Rebooted TB, just to be sure.
8. Reinstalled Provider, received the aforementioned 'version' error, but re-associated with all my onlin/Google calendars using network/Google option.
9. All events reappeared rather quickly as I reactivated (check-boxed) each calendar.
10. If applicable, import local calendar data you exported previously.

When this add on works... it works great! I love it to keep synced on my lightning calendar. the problem is that is does not work all the time. It seams to loose the connection form google calendar to lighting. It always seams to work from lighting to google. So if you are only using it to input information it is great. I do not blame the developer, I believe it is an issue that google created. In their infinite wisdom they keep fixing things that are not broken and do not tell anyone or give assistance to correct the problem. But with all that said I can only give this 3 stars at this time because it is not working 100%.

I had the provider working erratically lately even though it was updated to the latest (suggested) version. The solution was, to remove the addon and the Google calendar as well. Then install it again (same version) and add the calendar again. After the reinstall the add calendar window changed as well (Google calendar + e-mail address instead of URL) and I got a list of all available calendars.

Additional tip: I couldn't find the list of (Google) calendars in either the calendar props or addon. Then I found that if I start a new 'add calendar' and choose Google Calendar again, I get the option to select the existing account and the available calendar list is shown again. It would be useful to add this info to the addon description.

I wanted to clarify Arnoques comment. He wrote, that in order to turn on js and make the extension work correctly, you need to go to Preferences->Advanced->Config Editor and set "calendar.icaljs" to true (search for icaljs and double click on it).

If the extension is used in SeaMonkey, you must type "about:config" in the address bar, and press enter. Search for "calendar.icaljs" and double click on it. The value will change to "true".

The extension works fine for me on 2 windows computers. In addition, I'm using the same google calender on several android devices.
If the values are not shown at the first installation, retry the configure.

Thanks to Phillip for the good extension.

Best regards

Thunderbird 31.3.0, Lightning 3.3.2, Provider 1.0.3, Windows 7 Pro

Working fine as of today, 12/31/14. On Dec 13 I submitted a review labeled HORRIBLE STILL. At that time I was highly frustrated. But I connected to the support forum and was able to find the cause of my problem, it seems like a few lines needed to be removed from my config file. I removed Provider and Lightning. Then I removed lines in config with "calendar.google.calPrefs", reinstalled Lightning and Provider. I was able to use the newer, friendlier, GUI to install 9 google calendars and they have been working like did for the past few years. Hopefully this info will help anyone else who is having problems with 1.0.3. But I think mine are history, and my Provider is great to have back again.
