It would be lovely if I could download a firefox with this as the default dictionary; surely this is not impossible?... 4 stars for some obvious words being missing, like "Firefox"....

Incomplete in places, perhaps words added by the user could feed back somewhere for possible inclusion.

Oh and er... Zuckerberg. Nice Easter egg but I'd fix that before it goes viral!

So many of the commonest words are missing.

"Movies" for God's sake!!!

There are so many to list.

I just removed it from my Firefox.

I am happy referring to my hardback edition!

Flustered,
Ra.

P.S. I know, already, that I am going to install it again.

This add-on is a must! Not only you don't embarrass yourself with typos, but also you learn better English without even doing anything more than installing it!!A very useful tool and one of the 1st ever to add to my mozilla.

Follow his/her instructions from 31st may it works. I used 7zip to do the max version thing. Take the install.rdf file out of the .xpi change it save it and put it back in. I changed it to version 20.0 and it works fine with thunderbird 13.0.1. I don't know if I am allowed to do this here, but I put the file with the fix in my dropbox. Use the url below.

Mostly, it's a real pain to have to reboot to get the thing to work.

Also, it's very annoying that the langage defaults to Americsn in my Linux editions.

That is compunded by the fact that other versions of English are not included in the American locale box (at the top) as options. One has to go to all the trouble of searching for them in the full "others" list, when one is initially unsure whether they would be listed under country name (locale).

Would it be possible to have a "use Linux(o/s) disctionaries instead" option?

After being overwhelmed by the number of replies I decided to have a go myself, the following "appears" to be a fix!!!!
To get the British English directory to work:
Extract the .xpi file with winrar or winzip etc,
open install.rdf and change all the options of "max version"
to what you are using, [at the moment 12.0.1 for me] and save the file.
Put it back into the archive with win rar etc [copy and replace].
Install dictionary as an add-on by "installing from file" useing the
new .xpi and it seems to install and stay after reboot ok.
Seems to work on the normal and portable version across several pc's!
If you put in say version 20 as the max you might future proof it?
I might try that soon when I'm feeling keen, have a go or get a
friendly geek to do it for you, it's not too difficult.
Which leads me to the question "Why on earth does the owner David Bartlett not do this????".

As others are saying, this is a very poor spell checking dictionary. Tons of common usage words missing. Spell-check dictionaries are NOT the same as English dictionaries and should contain all commonly used words, people's names, common place names, such as UK towns, computer (or indeed any common) terminology and jargon, abbreviations etc, etc. Just compare with commercial quality dictionaries such as those from Microsoft, and you'll see this simply does not compete.

And for users in the UK to NOT have this installed as standard is ridiculous and not competitive with other browsers.

*Really* disappointed with this. A lot of words are missing, and there's too much of a focus on classic, standard English rather than words borrowed from the United States.
Desperately needs an update, and there are some fantastic ready-to-go word lists out there. A shame that something used by almost a million people is so mediocre. Fix it, Mozilla!

Brilliant add-on, very useful for emails and forms. Suggestions are very beneficial. 4 stars because it hasn't been updated since December 5, 2010 so some things aren't perfect but that's not really noticeable.

Mozilla really needs to integrate this kind of thing into FF !!
I spent from v7 to v12 not knowing why spell checking whilst typing was not working - only to find out that it was now a sodding ADDON !!
No wonder people are going over to Chrome with design issues like this !

Really needs an update. Trying to wean myself off After the Deadline, and it's amazing how many words are missing by comparison.

I am disappointed that it does not know the word Misandry even tries to correct it to misbrand, yet it knows the word misogyny.

I have been using this product for many months without problem. It works exactly as advertised - if it finds a problem it underlines it, if it happens to be a word it doesn't know you can add it to the dictionary under the right click menu.

I am mystified by some users poor comments on this add-on as I find it invaluable.

5 well deserved stars

One of the most illiterate attempts at a spell checker that it's possible to have, Not only does it ignore punctuations accidentally typed within words but this so called English dictionary seems to have the vocabulary of a 10 year old American..

This is definitely helpful with trying to learn UK spelling. As for switching back to US english, just right click a word, go to languages, and select UK.
