Simply put, this extension his makes Thunderbird a pleasure instead of a pain for me. I vaguely remember being skeptical about the utility of a conversation view, six years ago when I got a gmail account; now, I can barely use email without one, and I've hated it for years when something forced me to use anything other than GOOG's (very proprietary!) service. Now, with tbird and this addon, I can finally use whatever service I want with a libre+gratis client and still have a 21st century interface!

Great addon, started using it just as TB5.0 came out. However, the suggested TB Contacts addon doesn't support the new release yet. What about taking contact photos from the ordinary Address Book, as a fallback?

I'm enjoying the Thunderbird Conversations extension so far, but I have a request:
Can you please provide more grouping options for matching conversation threads?
For instance, I would like to group all messages from certain email addresses into a single conversation thread.
It would also be sweet if the matching algorithm could match "similar" subjects, not just identical ones -- for instance, I get a daily update from my Project Management system where the only thing that changes in the subject line is the date. I would like to group all these as a single thread.
Thanks!

This download for Add-on Manager needs updated to 2.0 (not 2.0b) as the Add-ons site.

It works fantastic!

Amazing addon, visually pleasing by opting for a simple, clean gmail-like layout. This addon doesn't stop at adding conversations - many other actions (attachements, etc.) are handled in a élegant, convenient way.

I really like this add-on and now I'm trying the Thunderbird 5.0 Beta 1 with Lightning 1.0b4pre and your alpha 5 version, but when I open a e-mail there is a highlighted message that says the e-mail is a calendar update, but it isn't.
I think there is some kind of cached information that must be cleaned because it started to happen soon after I opened a real calendar update sent from the MS Outlook 2010. When I re-start the Thunderbird the message go away but if I open other or the same real "calendar update" the "highlighted message" appears in every e-mail again.
This is a known bug??
Hi, this is known issue that is on the Thunderbird side. It will be fixed in Thunderbird 7. All the details are there https://github.com/protz/GMail-Conversation-View/issues/255

Great tool!

I love this tool. Using email is just not possible without conversation view.
I noticed Miramar runs very very slow with this addon. I just bought a new laptop with an i5 processor so my hardware should be able to handle it no problem. Perhaps it is a combination of the alpha release of Miramar as well. Basically when I click to expand an individual message, it lags anywhere from 1-6 seconds. When I click different email threads as well, it takes a long time to switch.
What I really like about this is the one line view of each individual message in a thread where the name is on the left and the message follows with the date at the end on the right. If I might be able to make a suggestion; I like how Facebook threads also condense space and put in a picture at the same time. The white space they have in there also makes it quicker to read messages. It would be great to have that. The key is to be able to word wrap and what not instead of a carriage return.
Great work and I look forward to the next release.

This extension is what I was looking for, it brings Thunderbird to a new level! Many thanks to the developers and keep up with the good work.
Just a suggestion: the actual Reply/Reply all/Forward buttons should appear as a single "Reply" popup button (where you may choose the reply/reply all/forward action) not below the message body but just to the right of each message title (if you want to reply to a given message) and also on top of the coversation (to reply to the most recent message).
See how Postbox handles this, it's just what I mean:

Very good extension that has made a great leap on 2.0alpha. However the use of Conversation view disables addons that change the header (like Display Mail User Agent and Display Conctact Photo).
Could be interesting to work correctly with them (the display contact photo could be used to put the photo on the current avatar pic).
All the best

I enjoyed the original version of this Add-on (Gmail Conversation View) but the new version brings it to a totally new level. I actually upgraded to Miramar just so I could use it. For years, every time I used a desktop email client I felt like conversations were disjointed and disconnected. I'm a huge fan of the way Gmail groups conversations together and this Add-on replicates the experience so well I actually enjoy using my desktop mail at work again. It brings a smile to my face every time someone responds to an email I've sent and it pops up in the same window as my original message. Excellent work.

Just started using this and I have two gripes with it. Is there an option for quick reply to quote the message I'm replying to or was this left out? Why is it not following my account settings to quote messages when replying?
If this is ever done and since this is supposed to emulate Gmail, the show/hide quoted text function would be nice.
Also when in the conversation panel (or whatever it's called) when I click or select a message it is highlighted with two lines a thicker grey one and a thin dotted line. The dotted line doesn't look too good.
I have to speed more time to really rate it. Anyhow I hope this add-on gets better.
Cheers
The quoting for quick reply has been added after alpha1, it will be in the upcoming alpha2 release. In the meanwhile, you can use development builds at http://jonathan.xulforum.org/files/gcv-nightlies/ . The show/hide quoted text function exists, you should check out the screenshots. Only quoted text higher than 5 lines (by default) will be hidden, otherwise we consider it's not worth it.
We're aware of the dotted line issue, but we haven't found a simple way to fix it yet. Finally, concerning the account settings, we'll do that kind of polish later. It's an alpha release, we just want to get the basics working! :-)

Great tool! But do we have to wait all the way until Thunderbird 3.3 for the new one?

Great add-on !
I suggest two other functionnalities if that is possible :
- The ability to change the font size.
- When you delete a discussion, received messages are removed. It could be nice to be able to remove sent messages (by me) too in order to free space and remove the whole discussion.
Thanks for this and maybe for the changes ;-)
In the 2.0 series, the following features should solve your issues:
- The font size will be 75% of the default font size. This is to make the messages consistent with the conversation UI, because the conversation view is designed to maximize the amount of information you can access in a small area (the message pane).
- The top right button (with the trash can or the shredder, depending on your OS) will delete all messages in the conversation, whereas just hitting "delete" in the message list will only delete the messages that are listed in the message list.

Fantastic. Maybe a little rough around the edges, but very useful indeed.
