I have been using this for quite a while and have become used to it stepping in when I email images. It always works flawlessly and allows me to retain control of the process. It is also very intuitive. One of my best add-ons.
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.13.8).Thanks for your review.

Just seen that the latest review is from me. But here's another one.
I've just noticed that this add-on doesn’t use subsampling/downsampling/antialiasing/interpolation (or how it is named) when doing downscaling, even when adjusted to best quality.
That’s ok for most of the everyday-use cases, but enforces me to fall back to an image manipulation program in some cases (e.g. sketches), where non-downsampling leads to annoying artefacts.
It is possible to change this somewhere?
All in all, I adhere to my statement: A must have for every pregnant.
A must have for everybody, especially every pregnant. Prepare add-on in long term advance before due date. During birth one is preoccupied, and afterwards all friends are thankful for not being able to count every single newborn’s hair on their photos.
Proposal for german translation: The OK-Button is currently called "Validieren" in german, which means something like "to validate a law". Better use "OK", "Weiter", "Größe ändern" or "Größe anpassen" (meaning OK, proceed, change size, adjust size).

How is it possible to define a max dimension for displaying an image attached to a received message ?
Pierre
Thank you for review.
Unfortunately, ARI does not handle received messages.
You could give a try to Image Zoom.

Tested for the following functionality: add a large image as an attachment to an email. Click the resize button. Click OK (use default settings). Send.
Review: Works quickly and simply.
Improvement: I'd like the single click to auto resize all images with the default settings but this doesn't seem to work.
If you want to avoid the dialog to be displayed, disable interactive mode through settings dialog or through quick settings menu options.

First of all thanks for this great addon. I have a problem. For example if I resize 2000x1200 px inline image to smaller dimension although it resized, the image still shown as 2000x1200 px dimension. In short inline image resized but Thunderbird don't show its actual size and recipients see 2000x1200 px picture with bad resolution.
Edit: This happens first time launching TB and open compose window, if I close compose and reopen then problem gone but after close and launch TB, problem appears again.
Hi,
You certainly have checked the "Keep original display aspect" setting.
If not, please follow debug procedure described on official addon's page, otherwise i won't be able to analyze things.

I wanted an easy way to send out smaller sized images. I just tried this out and this tool worked just as described, quickly and easily, taking my 3mb of images down to 250kb. Yes! I enjoyed the ability to crop the images, too, which I was not expecting. My thanks to the developer for this. The only additional feature I would like to see is the ability to compare the file sizes as well as the pixel size.
EDIT: I'll also add that I have found the developer very easy and helpful to communicate with. Thanks, TrV.
Hi, thanks for the review. But i'm sorry i've not understood what is exactly the feature request. Could you contact me through official email address please? Regards,

This might have gotten a higher rating, but I definitely consider user/dev interaction in the rating. While the plugin is serviceable, ti does have issues, ones which the creator rudely doesn't want to address.
Some effects, like say using a sharpening plugin in photoshop, when combined with this resizer make the image unusable. When resized in any other way, even using MS Paint, the image is fine, but whatever method this plug uses introduces a massive amount of grain and noise, ruining the image.
Additionally, the plugin, for reasons unknown, likes to increase the size of some images when resizing them. The only reason to resize images is to save file size, mainly to fit many images into an email at once. Yet, certain kinds of images seem to have their sizes doubled or tripled after running this plugin on them. When resized via another method, again like MS Paint? The size is properly reduced.
When this was addressed with the dev, they indicated they didn't feel they were bugs, and despite answering questions that were asked by them, the response was to "stop bothering them". Cannot recommend the app, or the user experience.and as per their suggestion, I've found another resizer that resizes without causing those issues, 'shrunked image resizer', simple, fast app, and images resized without file size increase or massive grain introduced.
[response to dev] It's a bug, because the behaviour only happens with ARI. When the image is resized with any other app out there (including SIR) no noise and garbage is introduced into the image. When your plugin is the only one causing the behaviour, it's your bug.
And yes, the fact that most of the time the plugin reduced size was nice, your response when I pointed out that there were times that it didn't and considered that a bug was what I was commenting on. Shrinking an image and increasing size is basically a bug. There is no reason it should be doing that, and you trying to pass that off with hand waving, excuses and rudeness is why you get 1 star and this review. I actually took the time to contact you first rather than posting a review (since you took issue with someone writing their review first rather than contacting you) but it seems to make no matter as anyone who has an issue with ARI obviously has something wrong with them.
What a subjectiv way to explain things...
What this user does not want to understand is that the odd observed behaviour is the result of an inappropriate usage of the plugin and an occurrence of several factors:
Have you got an error while using the plugin all alone? no.
Have you got an error while using an effect in photoshop? no.
Have you got an error while using an effect and ARI? yes.
So the guilty one is... the combination of both, isnt it?
No for this user the guilty is ARI, whatever i could say. "And it's a bug, and it's ARI"
Did he send me a full debug report? No.
Did he provide me the original and resulting images? No.
So it cannot be said that's a bug, at most this is a quality issue, but quality is quite subjectiv.
Of course ARI is not challenging professionnal solutions (even MS Paint), but quality is not the main purpose of this addon.
> The only reason to resize images is to save file size, mainly to fit many images into an email at once.
I would say that it is one of the main purposes, but NOT ONLY.
Indeed the plugin increases the file size, but only under certain circumstances... which once more is stated by the author as a bug. Of course, for the 99% left cases the fact that file size is decreased does not matter for this user.
Very funny behaviour...
Did he ever provide me elements (detailed procedure, image, etc.) which could help me to solve it? No.
I tried to explain him that it was not the plugin the guilty but his special usage which does not represent the main usage of all other users. But hearing how sure he stated it was an ARI's bug, i stopped the arguing and told him to stop bothering me.
It seems this user couldnt bear it...
What an ethical way of doing things but to furtively making some inacurrate report which does not represent the major usage.
And good for you you found "shrunked image resizer" and that it suits your needs. I hope that people who do prefer a x-platform compatible plugin, with lots of settings and parameters like ARI offers do not go on "shrunked image resizer" mozilla page to tell they prefer ARI by saying such negativ and inaccurate things...
For example "shrunked image resizer" uses another resizing method (it offers 2 if i remember well) which are not the same than ARI. Sometimes SIR produces a better result, sometimes it's ARI. Sometimes SIR produces bigger file size, sometimes ARI does.
SIR can keep EXIF data, ARI cant.
ARI offers much more settings and parameters. SIR is much more simpler.
Every user decides which one is the most appropriate for his own usage... which does not mean the other one is just a bunch of buggy snippets.
(Talking about rudeness) Personnally i consider that accusing something/someone without providing concrete proofs or ways to improve is much more noticeable than telling someone to leave him alone.
You really should look at yourself in a mirror before pointing out other's people behaviour.
Your emails were just accusations and you never opened the debate.

I can confirm klint's bug report that the message is sent without any action or approval by me, right after using the plugin. I installed it, used it, got the bug, and deleted it again. I'm sorry, but it's useless as it is now.
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.13.1).Hi, thanks for the report (does all this really deserves a 1-star evaluation?). I've not been able to reproduce what seems to be a bug. Since the last version, mails are being sent when they are saved, automatically or manually... That is really ennoying :)
I have disabled this addon and the problem was removed. So I guess it is related.
Apart from that, very useful addon, thanks.

I switched to this from "Shrunked Image Resizer". So far it works great and I received a response to my email question very quickly. I unchecked all of column 1 in the 'Actions' group box because otherwise the addon kept asking me to resize people's signatures when I replied to emails. I'll use the toolbar button if I want to resize inline attachments.
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.12.0).Thanks for this review.@ everyone: If you get annoyed by ARI interactive mode behaviour regarding images in people signatures, you can prevent it to fire by setting some firing criteria (see settings dialog). Or you can simply disable interactive mode...

I am running Mac MT. Lion and can not find the settings menu. I need to resize iPhoto images automatically to send. I had to do a rating so picked middle star. After I figure out how to use it I will rerate
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.11.2).Please could you use official contact email address to report me this? I'll be glad to solve it.
I'm currently using Lion (MacOS 10.7) and i've never noticed nothing strange.
Waiting for your email. Regards

I'm new to Thunderbird. I send lots of JPEGs via email and saw this add-on and downloaded it. However, I can't seem to use it properly. I get a message saying that the image doesn't match the criteria. I've gone through the settings menus several times and can't see anything obvious that would stop the attachments being recognised. I'm using version 7.0.1 of Thunderbird. Is this likely to be the issue? Thanks for reading. Has anyone got any ideas?

I find this little extension quite useful but I'd like it to be adapted to TB 6. For whatever reason tweaking the maxVersion number did not work on my computer (extension found "corrupted")...
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.9.0).Tweaking maxVersion should work, but i've enabled v6 compatibility. Should be OK. Thanks for the review.

Quick test: source image 3,2 MB (3072x2304). Resized to 1024x768. Image quality: Best = 1,7 MB, Very good = 137,9 kB, Good = 67,8 kB... Poor = 19 kB (what is this option good for - pixelation is horrible). So, either still way too big or highly compressed. Could you add some quality setting at around 700 kB - 1 MB? Or better scale quality settings. 4 low-to-terrible quality modes out of 5 is a bit useless.
Это отзыв для предыдущей версии этого дополнения (0.5.2).4 useless modes are your point of view with your test. I don't think it can be representative for others users. Moreover, if you want quality, you never user jpg, and you never resize images. That's not the purpose of this addon! It is to easily send images to recipients.Last thing, html tag canvas is used by this addon, which allows to make it cross-platform compatible. This tag dos not provide a huge set of parameters. Which means quality setting is not easy to adjust regarding real quality for one specific image.Besides that, does all others features of this addon deserve a 2/5?Edit: I forgot to mention that things will be customizable for next version.

I would like to second V@no's request: the ability resize inline images is critical for me, as that is how i usually compose emails with images. thanks! i'll keep an eye on this add-on.

Just found this extension and quiet impressed. It's surely deserves 5 stars.
A few requests if I may:
1) ability resize inline images (these that were drag and dropped directly in the text)
2) ability see image dimensions/sizes (in a tooltip would be enough)
3) "advance" mode, where we could fine-tune the resizing process by selecting compression level from 0 to 100 and perhaps adding some sharpening filter with a preview.

Thanks a lot for this very handy little plugin - and thanks for having it work with Linux! :-)
However, my main problem is not so much images that I sent to other people, but more all the enormous pictures I get sent from family and friends (easily accounting for 99% of used space in my folders).
It would be so incredibly useful if I could just somehow click on of these monster mails and select "resize images" and thus be able to keep all the emails with all the images as they were, just smaller.
Pretty please? :-)
I think you could give a try to Image Zoom TB addon.

I've only been using this for a couple of days, but it has worked perfectly on all jpeg images. The default setup works great, but is easily tweakable if desired. Well worth the modest donation requested.
