How to Use

Entry Points

There are three main ways to access Email Reminders:

Right-click Context Menu - Right-click any email in your message list to set a reminder
Toolbar Button - Click the Email Reminders icon in the toolbar to see active reminders
Settings - Access via Tools > Add-ons and Themes > Email Reminders > Options

Setting a Reminder

Select an email in your message list
Right-click to open the context menu
Click "Set Reminder..."
Choose a quick option or select a custom date/time
Optionally add notes to remind yourself why
Click "Set Reminder"

The email will now display an orange "Has Reminder" tag in the message list.

Viewing Your Reminders

Click the Email Reminders toolbar button to see your active reminders at a glance.

The toolbar badge shows two numbers (pending|due):

Blue badge - You have pending reminders
Orange badge - You have reminders that are due now

Managing Reminders

From the toolbar popup or the full reminder list, you can:

Snooze - Postpone the reminder (5 min, 15 min, 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day, 1 week)
Done - Mark the reminder as complete
Dismiss - Dismiss without completing
Open Email - Jump directly to the original email

Click "View All Reminders" for the full list with filters (Active, Completed, Dismissed).

Visual Tags on Emails

Emails with active reminders automatically receive an orange "Has Reminder" tag. This tag:

Appears in the message list and message header
Is removed automatically when you complete or dismiss the reminder
Can be used to filter/sort your emails
Syncs automatically when Thunderbird restarts

Tip: Enable the "Tags" column in your message list (right-click column headers) to see tags directly in the list view.

Notifications

When a reminder is due, you'll receive a system notification. Click the notification to open the email, or manage the reminder from the toolbar popup.

Settings & Backup

Access settings via Tools > Add-ons and Themes > Email Reminders > Options

Export - Save all reminders to a JSON file
Import - Restore reminders from a backup
Clear Data - Remove all reminders (use with caution)

Privacy

This extension is 100% local. Your reminder data:

Is stored only on your device
Is never transmitted anywhere
Is never shared with anyone
Can be exported/imported for backup

No accounts required. No tracking. No analytics.

v0.4.0 — Archive on Reminder

New in this version:

- Archive email after setting a reminder (Settings → Inbox Behavior). When enabled, an email is moved to your account's Archives folder right after you set a reminder on it — keeping your inbox tidy while the reminder stays fully trackable in the popup, list, and notifications.
- Off by default — opt in when you want it.
- Uses Thunderbird's built-in archive, so it respects whatever per-account year/month structure you've already configured.
- Clicking a reminder still opens the original email after archiving.

New permission: messagesMove is required by Thunderbird's messages.archive() API. It is used only when the new option is enabled. No data is transmitted externally.

Requires Thunderbird 106 or later.

Email Reminders is a Thunderbird extension that allows you to set reminders for emails. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles your data.

## Data Collection

**This extension does NOT collect, transmit, or share any personal data.**

## Data Storage

All data is stored **locally on your device** using Thunderbird's built-in storage API (`browser.storage.local`). This includes:

- Reminder metadata (due dates, notes, status)
- Email references (subject lines, sender addresses, message IDs)
- Your extension preferences/settings

This data:
- Never leaves your computer
- Is not transmitted to any external servers
- Is not accessible to the extension developer or any third parties
- Is stored only within your Thunderbird profile

## Data Retention

- Reminder data persists until you delete it or uninstall the extension
- You can export your reminders as a JSON file via the Settings page
- You can clear all data at any time via the Settings page

## Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

## Third-Party Services

This extension does **not** use any third-party services, analytics, or tracking.
