Works well with W 8.1 and THB 24.6 or 31.3
A menu to add corrections in the Tools (or Option) menu in Message menu would be helpful...
Thanx.

(sorry if this is double-posted, had some trouble submitting earlier review)
I love that you are taking this on! I think we all really need this feature, in an era of pervasive auto-correct in other applications.
Using Linux, I am unable to add any words to the auto correct list -- in the Preferences screen, all buttons below the list are greyed out.
I would be happy to work on a patch if you have a repository somewhere. It appears to me that changing the button "disabled" values in chrome/content/settings.js from true to false fixes most of the problems (did that unsystematically).

How do I use additional for Firefox?
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (1.0.3) del componente aggiuntivo. The originator of this add-on did not include support for FireFox. I don't really know how to make it work in FF. I wish I did. I find myself making typos in FF because I am so used to AC in TB. Wish I could fix it ...

Installed this add-on into Thundebird 24.6.0 on Windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu 14.04 x64 and both times, this add-on didn't seem to make any difference.
Has anyone been able to get this to work on this version of Thunderbird, or been able to find contact details of the author of this plugin for more information?
The functionality that this add-on would provide sounds really good so it's a shame that it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
EDIT: Thanks for your reply.
After posting on MozillaZine forums, someone there has posted the answer which explains why it wasn't working here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=13673633#p13673633.
I have three suggestions for improvement (I am sure your time for working on this is limited so I understand it may take some time):
1. Update the add-on so that the autocorrect.wordsfile preference is created automatically
2. Ability to easily add extra autocorrects from the context menu (i.e. so when you select a spelling suggestion from the menu, there should be an option along the lines of "correct this spelling mistake in the future", perhaps this should be as a separate submenu underneath the existing spelling corrections that says "Autocorrect to" -> and then repeat the list of spelling suggestions.
I'm sure the existing auto-correct list could be improved collaboratively so if all the users of this extension were able to share their own autocorrect lists it would be even more useful.
3. As others have pointed out, the fact that auto-correct doesn't work in the first sentence is a little annoying, though not really too big a fault overall.
I just updated my TB on Windows 7 x64 and the add-on works for me. I don't have TB on my Ubuntu VMs at the office, but I'll try it when I get in.

I like the add-on. I have been using it for many years and then it was no longer compatible so I really appreciate that you took it on to maintain it. I am wondering though if you could tweak it so that it would capitalize the very first letter of the first sentence. It does a great job on subsequent sentences but it completely fails on the first sentence. I'm not sure it if is possible or not but I though I would ask. I am also not sure where to post this request so I hope in here is okay.

Tried to go to "support section for this addon" and kept getting directed to this page, so here goes:Ubuntu 13.04 64Bit, Thunderbird 24.2.0, mmsAutoCorrect 1.0.3
At first after installation, did not work at all. Figured out how to add words to list (described by Michael Pachta earlier), but still was not auto-correcting at all. After 10th attempt or so to start new email and type "teh" and so on, it finally started auto-correcting.
Currently:
1. Does not capitalize the first letter of the first word in a new paragraph.
2. Does not auto-correct at all in subject line (not sure you intended it to work there, just mentioning it).
Also, there is a button for this add-on to drag on to the toolbar. It seems that when it's depressed, auto-correct is disabled, and when it's not, it's enabled. Seems like it ought to be the other way around, but that's minor.
Keep up the good work!

I really really wanted this add-on to work!! Just installed the newest version of Thunderbird and I love it! Coming from Outlook, though, I need an add-on that does what this is supposed to do, but it seems to be broken. Is there an alternative - there doesn't seem to be? Please fix and support this because to me and I would think, many others, this is a big deal! Thanks! (It's the last thing I'm trying to tweak before I'm completely satisfied with the software and make it my goto).

... so I'm posting a report of my difficulties with this add-on here...I can't get mms-Auto-Correct to install in TB 24.1. I've downloaded and saved the .xpi file, but when I use "Install Add-on from file" and select the mms-Auto-Correct xpi file, nothing seems to happen.
Edit:
Medvezhonok -- Thanks for getting back to me. Your reply makes me realize that I should consider uninstalling TB 24 and reinstalling an earlier version. That depends, of course, on my ability to find the installer for a previous version. If I can find it, do you think TB 17 would be a good choice?

Doesn't work well with TB24 @ Kubuntu 13.10
First two options work:
- Capitalize first letter of sentences
- Autocorrect two initial capitals
Doesn't work:
- Catch accidental use of capslock key
- whole AutoCorrect List
It would be nice if it would work with Seamonkey Mail too :-)

Hi
Couldn't work out how to contact you direct, so concluded this was best way.
Have just downloaded this as I have been looking for autocorrect that works for ages. However, I can't get it to work. Win 7 64 bit Pro, all updates, TB 24 (just updated).
I have installed, uninstalled & re-installed the add-on, & it still doesn't work. If I type teh at beginning of email, it stays as that, rather than becoming The.
Any suggestions?
Only thing I haven't done yet is re-boot PC

Seems to work as advertised on Thunderbird 24, Windows 7.
Possible improvements: automatically capitalise the first letter of a new line, and the first letter of the entire message.

Basic function is good, but as others have noted, cannot add autocorrect words. Buttons are greyed out. Would be a 5/5 if that bug didn't exist!

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 and this add-on will only capatalize words, it will not correct misspelled ones. I have no problem adding new words to the dictionary, as well as viewing the dictionary from the preferences page of the add-on, but it will not autocorrect misspelled words. Running on TB 17.08

I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, installed and uninstalled the first two versions and then reinstalled version 1.0.2. Here are my systems specs: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP-1, 16GB RAM, Thunderbird 17.0.7, mmsAutoCorrect 1.0.2.
When going into Options I cannot add new Replace and With pairs. All the buttons on the bottom - Save List, Add, Delete - are grayed out. Also the first letter in the first sentence is never auto capitalized. I suppose this is due to the lack of a leading period (.).
What can I do to get mmsAutoCorrect to allow me to add word pairs?

At first install it didn't work. I had the same problem as Emmcee. I tried fiddling with the TXT file directly, but no joy. I uninstalled the addon, tried to install an old (incompatible) addon, then REINSTALLED this addon. Now it works :)
It would be nice to be able to add to the autocorrect list via a right-click context menu.
Thanks for this useful addon for fat-fingered (metaphorical) users like me.

would be great if it worked! The caps correction is the only part that works for me..I need some help to get it running.I run TB 17, on Windows 7: I installed it and nothing happens and I cannot find any troubleshooting help. What can I try?.
Reply to yours, Med!
OK - but you can also contact me gnlh01@gmail.com
YES I have the autocorrect file, and when I choose options it opens and is filled with the good and bad words..
Let's see whether we can figure this out. Can you go to Tools -> Add-ons -> mmsAutoCorrect -? Options. You should get a dialog box with one tab "Preferences". The word list should be filled with entries. If you don't get the word list, look in your TB profile folder for extensions\autoCorrect@miller.micro and see whether there is a file autoCorrect.txt that you can edit with notepad. Let me know the results and we can go from there.

Yes Mike,
I did type 'llok' in the left column and 'look' in the right column but the buttons remain grayed out.
I got around the problem by direct editing the txt file but that is a clumsy way to add words.
Tried again and problem still exists.
cheers
Mike
PS I cannot find v 1.0.3 - it's not available via update and it says 1.0.2 on the developer page.

I have the same problem as Nick2222, when I try to open addon-options "The autocorrect file could not be loaded, check the JavaScript Console for reason(s)". I am running v1.0.1 of the add-on, TB 12.0.1 and Windows 2000. autocorrect.txt is present under my TB profile. The auto capitalisation (which is what I mostly wanted) seems to work OK, except that it doesn't capitalize the first letter on a line, even when that is the start of a sentence. Thanks for writing/maintaning this, even more if you fix these issues ;-)EDIT: I get the following messages in the Error console, which may be related:mmsAutoCorrect: e-TypeError: sfile.initWithPath is not a functionTimestamp: 14/05/2013 10:39:36 aError: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIDOMKeyEvent.initKeyEvent]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://autocorrect/content/settings.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 455" data: no]
EDIT:
I've now tried 1.0.2, and it made no difference. (incidentally, why is 1.0.2 not the 'default'? - I could only find it under 'other versions'). I will see if I can try this on a more modern combination of Windows/TB.
Ian,
Would you mind trying version 1.0.2 to see whether it fixes the first problem you mentioned? I would not have expected to have that error under Windows, but I don't have a Win2K system upon which to test.
Currently the autocapitalization is based on a previous period ('.'). I'll see what I can do about your beginning-of-line suggestion.
The error console exception is not related to either of these, but thanks for pointing it out. I will fix it in the next release.
Thanks for your encouragement!

addon 1.0.1, Ubuntu 13.04 Rus, TB 17.0.5, I see file autoCorrect.txt and I see window, when I try to open addon-options "The autocorrect file could not be loaded, check the JavaScript Console for reason(s)".
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (1.0.1) del componente aggiuntivo.Nick, Thanks for helping me find this problem. There was a case sensitivity problem with the autoCorrect.txt file name that wasn't a problem in Windows but, of course, was a problem in Linux. Version 1.0.2 should fix the problem. I tested with TB 17.0.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 English, but I'm pretty sure this will fix it for you also. Thanks again for the help!
