Hi, this doesn't seem to work with Thunderbird 3.0 Beta4

Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (1.1) del componente aggiuntivo.

3.0 Beta 4 is very old software that isn't supported for this add-on. You should upgrade to one of the Thunderbird 3.1 builds from http://getthunderbird.com/

This will not install because it doesn't show up on the Add Ons menu. Tried many times.
HELP!

This does work with 3.1.2 but:

When I applied columns recursively downwards the first time it only went down 3 layers after which the columns were displayed with their default settings.

I tried this again later on and the columns were correctly applied down through all sub-folders.
Maybe it was my machine, or else a software "feature".

Also, if you delete the "*.msf" files the column information is removed.

gyc - Try clicking the icon in the right had display pane which has the column heading tooltip "Click to select columns to display"

Upgraded to 5****

Ian, are you sure you're looking at just the folder columns and not the message pane columns? This extension only does things for the folder columns - so I'm not sure what you're on about when you're talking about recursively going downwards.

The information is generated from the .msf files so if you delete those, column information may be removed until you re-open those folders.

After upgrading to TB3.1.2 I followed the suggestion in installer and installed this add-on, but I don't see anything on my folders' left pane.
I browsed through menus, options, settings and the like and still haven't found a clue of what I should do to have these "extra columns"...
One thing I'd like to have is the progress bar - that now is on the bottom-right corner - in front of each of my account folders displaying for each its own download progression status...

The columns are activated by the drop-down menu at the end of the column headers.

A progress bar is not in the scope of this extension.

Using version 1.1 with Thunderbird 3.1.2 (Hungarian) the content of "Size" column is not decreased when a mail is deleted from a folder. (Nor with v1.0) It is increased, if a mail arrives to a folder. The same situation after restart of TB or re-install of Extra Folder Columns. Could you please check the situation? (Did I make a mistake?) Anyway, very useful add-on, Thanks! (Would be 5 stars if the problem above corrected)

Hi Fonyosz, the folder size is determined by Thunderbird not by the extension.

The way Thunderbird works is that, although you delete an email it doesn't actually remove it from the disk file until you compact the folder. This is done for performance reasons and is why the size doesn't decrease straight away.

Disclaimer: I'm a sucker for Thunderbird extensions. I wish there were more of them :) This add-on is very well-done, meaning that it has a professional, just-what's-needed UI that adds just about every piece of information about an e-mail as a potential column to be displayed and sorted on. I've already used it in a number of ways. I put 'account' as one of the columns for a smart folder that transcends a single account, for example.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I believe 95% of Mozilla add-ons should have allow the user to select preferences. In this case, it could be as simple as choosing which extra folder columns to list and which to exclude. Granted -- this isn't critical but I imagine that most users prefer to have some control over add-ons, even if they aren't entirely necessary. Overall, a nice addition to Thunderbird and I'm going to check out what else these author's have to offer. Thanks, guys!

@linefeed: You can already select which columns you want - just click on the little box at the right-hand end of the folder column names and you'll be able to choose the columns you want.

is there any way to ask for features?

for example I'll like to have into "proprieties/preferences" of some folders something like:
* if nr messages in that folder are
- under 50 to be black
- between 50 and 100 to be yellow
- over 100 red
* if the size of that folder is
- less that 2M black
- between 2M and 5M yellow
- over 5M red

I too have gone back to 0.4. It was most annoying to have the redundant "... - Local Folders" appended to every folder name in the folder pane (all my folders are in Local Folders) and crowding the display to make it effectively unreadable. Please make this an option.

Thanks, Bob

Yes, please make it an option to display the root folder in the sidebar views, it's really messed up my workflow; my eyes/fingers are been very used to the old format. Just make it another optional column (which is the point of the plugin!).

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for displaying the root folder name when looking at grouped in-boxes or unread folders - it makes group views much more useful for me.

As people seem to be divided about whether root folder names should be shown or not, could you add an option so people can choose?

I did the upgrade to 1.0 today and in my "unread folders", all folders started showing their root folder name and not just their folder name... downgraded to 0.4 and all is working again. In 1.0 the options button was disabled. Any way to tweak this in 1.0? Until then, im back to 0.4

Great thing! I'd like to report one bug, though:
I'm using the unified inbox feature, and when I install extra folder columns on thunderbird 3.1, all my Inboxes are named "Inbox", which is quite confusing ... without e.c.f. installed, they are named after the account they belong to.

Thanks for this. It's a necessary add-on, to restore an obvious needed base functionality....

This feature really should be restored to the base product, but since it's not currently included, this add-on is vital.

The only reason I don't give this four or five stars is that it seems that the user must activate folder content columns after the 3.x upgrade wizard installs the add-on. No problem for me, but not obvious for the lay user.

Very helpful add-on. I really don't understand, why this functionality was removed from core TB ... Anyway: "As others have pointed out, this extension does NOT work properly with the "Smart Folders" view (inbox accounts are all listed as "Inbox" instead of the account names. Ditto for Sent, Drafts, and Trash). Hopefully that'll be addressed in a future version."

GREAT feature! Like previuos said, in smart folder view, the names of the folders are changed from "account_name" to "Inbox", please fix this!
