This is the fist "mail notify" add-on which works on TB3 for my openSUSE...impossible use TB3 without it.

Would be nice if there was instructions or a manual. I installed mailbox alert and have been looking all over thunderbird to find a way to configure it. Can't find mailbox alert anywhere.
When looking in the addons, it keeps saysing "This add-on will be installed when Thunderbird is restarted. Even after restarting several times and even rebooting my system

This is very decent biff for TB. It would be nice to have an option to use a keyboard shortcut to close the alert window.
Thanks.

Please update for TB 3 so I cannot use TB 3 until Mailbox Alert doesn't support it.

It woudl be nice if the add-on could also provide a volume control for the alerts, so that one can mute all (or specific) alerts to more acceptable volumes, w/o having to adjust the whole system's volume. A master volume (on a button in a toolbar) with sub-sliders for relative loudness of specific alerts would be idea.

This is a really nice add-on. It does what I want and does it simply (even though I only use a portion of its feature set). My use is similar to having a telephone that only rings for certain callers. Most of the time, rather than being notified, I want to look for email when I have time -- for instance, those containing receipts, newsletters, jokes, etc. In other cases, I want to be notified when an email has arrived -- for instance, those sent by close friends, server alerts, etc. To solve this, I use Thunderbird's filters to divide incoming email into designated folders, and Mailbox Alert to give me appropriate notifications for each folder -- such as specific sounds for specific senders and no sounds for others. It's extremely convenient.

Nice app, might have more config options: if clicking new mail alert it might open just the new mail not the whole main window. Over 10+ new main window openings the Thunderbird stalls.

Agree with Natgew - Having the ability to pass some message identifiers , particularly senders name, folder and subject to a macro would be really useful.

I´m not getting it to work properly.. I´ve set "Don´t let parent folders alert for this one" on my spam-folder and it worked after my first configuration of the addon. After that it keeps on notifying me evertime i get spam... I´m running TB 2.0.0.19 (20081209) on Windows XP

I use it for the command notification. It would be nice if you could pass arguments to it, such as %s for the subject, etc.

re Jackiehs and having pop up stay visible until clicked - why not create a message in notepad and add it to the command entry c:\windows\notepad.exe C:\Documents and Settings\#######\My Documents\mailnote.txt
That way notepad opens when you have new email and it does stay visible until closed.
Nice addon - especially for those people who leave their email client minimised

I was looking for this functionality but it doesn't work in Thunderbird 3 beta. It would be great if you could make it TB3 compatible!

Agreed with Basmond. Adding an option "popup duration -> infinity (until clicked on)" would be appreciated!

I hope I am understanding gloops problem right, but if you set spam filter to dump the bad mail into other than inbox folder and set inbox folder alert only using this, then you should be able to avoid getting spam alerts.
That's what I did exactly and I am happy as clams!
No more false alarms. Well it does change the icon of T-bird which says there is msg, but that's default behavior. I do not get a pop up box or sound. That's good enough for me.
HOWEVER, this may be a real bug. When I click on the alert, a new instance of TB pops up. So, if I hit multiple times, I get multiple inst of TB. I am also using MinimizeToTray and having multiple TBs there could be annonying. May be you intended this way, but...
Still extremely useful++++ only a star off for that.

This is a nice extension, but I should say as isampson, and emphasize more as time goes : we receive more and more spam, and happily Thunderbird has very efficient filters against them. Therefore, this extension will be useful again, only when it acts AFTER the spam filters, and not BEFORE as it does as for now. Until then, we here a sound telling we received a mail, and we do not react as we think it is a spam.

I should appreciate a lot to do this.
Could you give me a few clues ? Does it impact another extension ?
This is what happens on my machine :
- the spam is received in "Inbox"
- the alert (specific to "Inbox") is played
- the spam is transfered to "junk emails" by the spam filter
- the alert is not cancelled, I DID hear it and I am in front of the screen whereas I should not, and I see there is no new mail
- the general alert for the mail account has NEVER been played, only the one specific to Inbox, theoretically meaning "Inbox with no spams as they were excluded by the filter", and in fact appearing to be "Inbox first including spam, but these are excluded once you are extracted from where you were and arrive to see you came for nothing". This is rather long for a folder name, is not it ?
I regret that the development team has chosen not to be joinable, as the critics section is not planned to be a forum.

Great!
Just add popup duration -> infinity (until clicked on) and you will get 5 stars from me :-)
