My Reviews

Xclear

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Works, but half as much as claimed. Nothing whatsoever results from scrolling over the field - I refer to both the Search Bar and the Location Bar - but clicking the added icon does clear the field.

I tend to agree with the user who does not want any [tacked-on clear-by-scroll] feature you can't disable: very unwise change, considering the other functions of scrolling. I'd like to go back to v1.5.

NewScrollbars [Tb 10-56] (discontinued)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Looks good (Firefox 9.0.1). Also coordinates well visually with this user style (for Stylish add-on; replaces ugly red tab close buttons and some others with attractive aqua-colored spheres):

Hide Titlebar

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like it - better than the similar "smart" add-on, which is much too complex for me and failed in several ways - and probably will keep it. It maximizes browser display area... looks sleek.

However this nullifies the "Enable Single Window Mode" option in Tab Mix Plus despite the fact that the relevant about:config entry remains properly set.

I really hope this can be fixed.

Toggle Menubar

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This is better than all the others I tried (yes, an autohide generally will interrupt whatever I am doing, no matter what time or hovering settings are available in the candidate add-on). This works without the erratic behaviors the others had.

But what I'd REALLY like is about half of this: I want the toggle without any auto show/hide, and a toolbar button to do the toggling.

I would settle for switching the two assigned keys in this add-on. I mean use ALT for toggling and F2 for messing with auto show/hide (and I'd never use that). I just do not like having to move my hand all the way to the top of the keyboard over and over and over. Short fingers!

Hide Menubar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I run 3.5.6 with (among lots of other add-ons) 'Tiny Menu' and a toolbar button to 'Toggle the Bookmark Toolbar.' This newbie interacts very well with those, which I thought would conflict.

Impressive.

One thing I'd like added: Hide Menubar's very own toolbar button that would mimic the action of pressing Alt.

Attachment Sizes

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Depended a great deal on this with earlier TB versions; but with TB3 (released) it does install without complaint, however does not work... no size appears when composing.

Please fix!

XNote

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I can create or modify an XNote, but there is no way its existence of is indicated in the messages pane. The column available, called 'Notes' does activate but its header remains grayed out and no icons appear in the column. This no matter whether an XNote was created post- or pre-TB3.

Just for now I will manually turn on the message's star icon to tell myself an XNote is there - but this will need to be worked out for other users whose usage of XNotes is more extensive than mine.

Buttons!

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Echoing some comments of Gordon Lack: several buttons I'd used in TB2 did reappear on my toolbar after upgrading to TB3, but perform nothing (or nothing useful) any more.

It took me 3 days to find anything for navigating to the next or the previous message without leaving my current tab (seems basic and vital, no?). The old buttons had appeared but, in TB3, are duds. The *actually working* TB3 buttons for these functions (I just located minutes ago) look almost identical to the ones for finding the next/previous unread message - which I would never happen to need. I'm suggesting these two sets of buttons should look much more different from each other.

Xpunge

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

More encouragement here to *please update* for Tbird3... I loved MultiXpunge in Tbird2. Perfect performance without a hint of a glitch.

FiltaQuilla

Let's give it the benefit of the doubt and say I misunderstood what the added option "Do Not Notify" is supposed to mean. But I can't get incoming items in my Feeds accounts to stop announcing themselves - the reason I acquired this add-on.

Blinking Alert

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Worked great from the get-go (TB3). Well made.

I would give it 5 stars if it offered one more adjustment to the alert panel - the option to reposition it - in 'sticky' fashion - where I choose. I need to see the alert from across the room and at the bottom-right of my monitor is not ideal.

(I used to use a third party add-on for new mail alerts, but it won't work with TB3.)

Tiny Menu

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Greatest thing ever.

Works well in Thunderbird and Firefox,

Send Page via eMail

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Worked OK on my first try (I use Thunderbird), except its Firefox toolbar icon produced no action at all. And its placement within 'Tools' menu seems an odd choice - would like to see it added to the tab's or the page's context menu - or both - instead.

So I am saying something like what faiyip posted on July 2, 2009 and outright agreeing with these users' comments:

- "Works great but tool bar icon doesn't work."
(by London Lad on November 17, 2009)

- "Does exactly what you expect, opens default email program
with the web page as an attachment."

MinimizeToTray revived

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Icon checkbox for "Double click to restore" must be checked for the other checked box ("Show context menu on right click") to work. Annoying. [This is Firefox v3.5.3 running on Vista.]

Vista Snipper Toolbar Button

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Helpful detail. I use the Snipping Tool quite a bit. Button works great.

CleanScreen

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Sorry - it completely failed to have any effect.

BrowsrBounce

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

My systemwide default browser is Firefox.

(1: pass) This add-on did open Chrome from a link in the body of a standard message.

(2: fail) Would not open Chrome in "incognito" mode (which I want); when incognito was specified in the path that the add-on uses, nothing opened when a link was clicked.

(2: fail) Opened Firefox from RSS feed headings - the most frequent place I'd need it to open Chrome and why I got the add-on.

World Weather+

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Either this does not work right (TB 2.0.0.21) or I just don't like the way it uses screen 'real estate.' At first it placed a large square panel at the bottom of the folders list. This - which I had no idea to expect despite reading the documentation - I disliked. The panel functioned but was not controlled by the add-on's options for choosing size of icons & fonts. Then an accidental single click shut this panel & it was never seen again. On the status bar: displayed current weather icons are very squashed horizontally; and was the status bar icon supposed to have a tooltip and/or click to reveal something more? (It didn't.) Add-on needs work, lots of it; not keeping it.

Launcher

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

In addition to an error message - see first review, by grdk - when Ffx (3.0.8) restarts after install, clicking its Options button gives me a popup attempting to give instructions - these are very garbled though - about creating a link-handlers.js file in the Profile folder. I did this; it did not make a difference. Several citations of web addresses for more info are all indecipherable or just not there. Zero stars if I could - sorry.

Close Tab Context Menu

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Sorry - this had no effect at all. Nothing was added to the context menu.
