Toolbar Buttons

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is still an absolutely indispensable extension. I'm very heartened to hear that the developer is working on it again, as some of the buttons don't function anymore.

If there's one criticism I'd make, it's that you end up with so many buttons in the Customise window that it takes forever to find anything (although the extension Sort and Search Customization Dialogs helps with that). If the developer's website comes back, then in future I might use the main extension as a taster to find out what buttons I need, then uninstall it and re-install them individually from there.

One button I'd like to see would be one to close all empty tab groups, like the one on the Pano extension. If you save Tab Mix Plus sessions with empty groups in, they restore badly.

Can't wait for the update!

In answer to ~{ Nay }~
Are you running Classic Theme Restorer in Fx29? If so, disable Foxtab and CTR and everything should reappear. Then re-enable CTR only.

Download Status Bar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have to commend the developer, not only for taking on the challenge of replacing the original extension, but for his exemplary communication with his users and the rapidity of his updates, sometimes several a day. If you miss the original Download Statusbar, having migrated to 26, this is the perfect replacement. If there's anything you find that you don't like about it, it will be probably be fixed soon!

My understanding of the difference between Session and Temporary cookies is that a Session cookie is allowed for every session, but a Temporary is only allowed for the current session.

I stayed back at Fx 16.0.2 because I found this extension wouldn't work with with later versions - that shows you how much I like it; specifically I like its Top Sites feature, better than that of other extensions or the built-in one. What wouldn't work was that when I clicked on a tab or page, I couldn't get to it, the screen went blank and I had to close the browser to go on. Now I've discovered what causes it: selecting Full Screen in the options. If you select one of the other options it works fine. Now I can upgrade to 19.0.2.

yosemiteg, am I right in thinking that you've contacted the developer and received a reply from him? We'd all be happy to know that this extension might still have a future and also to wish him well through whatever troubles he has.

One of the very best add-ons, which I've had to keep alive by editing the version number time after time. Sadly now I find that the items on the menu accessible from the Bookmarks Menu button (a cleaner display, just the bookmarks and nothing else) don't respond to a left-mouse click any more. I post this fact here because the forum on the development site is down.

This is an excellent add-on, and it would be nice if the developer updated it properly. The reason it keeps declaring itself incompatible with Fx5 is that the maxVersion in install.rdf is actually set to 4. If you fix this yourself it works fine. The puzzling thing is why it will even install in the first place.

Well done! Great to have it working again. Install from under "View all versions" on the main page. Thanks again.

FoxTab had its version number bumped up to Fx5, and was then withdrawn by it's developers after it crashed. But according to this:http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/825010#answer-198098- and it's true, I've tested it - you just need to change one name in three lines of code to make it work. You wouldn't think that would take very long, would you?

Edit: thanks for the reply but that link is dead I'm afraid.

CS Lite

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This idiot managed it, so can you.

1. On the CS Lite page, click the Download button.

2. On the License Agreement page that this takes you to, right-click Accept and Install and use Save Link As... to save an XPI file.

3. Extract the files within - it's really just a zip file. I used 7-Zip.

4. Make all the edits, using a text editor, that mad.and.insane has kindly figured out. (hawthornso23 has pointed out that there needs to be a { at the end of edit (6), so watch out when cutting and pasting.)

5. Now create a new zip file containing the modified files and folders. If you unpacked into a new top-level folder, don't include that folder within the zip file, should just be 3 files and 3 folders. Call it anything you like and no need to rename the extension to XPI.

6. In the Add-ons Manager, select Install Add-on From File...

7. Navigate to the zip file you've created, but you'll need to change the filter (where it says Files of type) from Add-ons to All Files or you won't be able to see it in the list of files.

8. Select it and press Open, and CS Lite should just install.

FoxTab

I've found this add-on eminently usable with FF3.6. It provides a range of visually stunning displays for your tab pages and is highly configurable. From a visual point of view, I particularly like the way the thumbnails in the Grid view change size and arrangement depending on how many of them there are, and the reflections on the "floor" in the Carousel view made it seem like my netbook was a big iPod. The Close buttons on the thumbnails are particularly useful for pruning a large number of open tab pages. So I give it five stars for these features. My only gripe is that since moving to FF4 I find I'm using FoxTab less than before, since it makes no accommodation to the new tab groups. I can understand that turning it into a replacement for Panorama might conflict with its original design aims, but presumably it wouldn't be too hard to code an option to display only the tabs in the current group instead of all of them. Nonetheless, a great add-on that transforms your browsing experience.
