Updated 8/22/08: Doing this: 'Set your "Rotate each stock every" to 0' to solve the no updates problem doesn't work for me. I'm downgrading this from 2 stars to 1 because it seems that it will never be fixed.

Original review:

I agree with several of the comments others have made:

- It doesn't refresh by itself sometimes, which is really irrititating
- You can't reorder stocks easily
- It seems more broken than usual lately. For example, I have ^DJI listed, but I get no information.

I agree with most of the comments:
- This is the best stock sticker add-on out there
- It does make Firefox crash occasionally
- It needs to be updated! Please! I only keep 4 symbols in it and since I updated Firefox, ^DJI doesn't come through anymore.
Otherwise, it is a pretty good add-on!

Ticker is great. Just update to FireFox 2.0.0.12 and now ticker is not compatible.

It would be nice if I could turn on the status bar display and turn off the toolbar display. The status bar display doesn't cost me a display line.

Overall, this add-on is really dynamite. I'm most impressed by the tremendously individuated views for each (you can choose to automatically scroll the percentage gain, daily $ gain, total value on hand, etc. of the center of your portfolio, while only viewing the percentage gain of minor stocks which you are only monitoring... awesome). It's also very customizable in a lot of ways (you can change which 3rd party site to view the details of the selected stock, and vary it by stock). And it blends it very nicely into the browser. Some people have complained of it causing the browser to crash, but I haven't found that to be the case.

There are only two features that this add-on lacks, but they (to me) are tremendously important.

#1 - I would absolutely love for this program to have a 3rd party database of stocks, like Foxmarks (or, more relevantly, Firestox) does, which would allow me to use the program on two or more computers without having to change my settings on each computer. I often add a stock to watch on one computer, but then I have to remember which I added to put it on my other computer. Having my portfolio online would be a huge plus, and the fact that it's lacking is really disappointing and annoying.

#2 - Mind-numbingly frustrating is the fact that, once I've added these stocks to my browser, I can't change the order that they appear. If, for example, I want all of my tech stocks to be shown in a row, I have to add them all at the same time, or else when I add one later on, it will be out of place, since I can't change the order in which they are displayed. I don't know why this is, and it seems like it would be tremendously simple to implement. If I knew code, I would do it, I promise.

#3 - I know I said I only had two complaints but this is minor. In renaming the stocks, one cannot use a space, meaning "Best Buy" becomes "BestBuy." Just annoying.

However! Overall this add-on is really killer and very helpful, almost ideal. Certainly the standard for firefox browser, but not yet perfect.

I tried it on Mac and Win XP. Both created major tweaks with Firefox. Unexpected crashes, and general glitchiness in Firefox windows. Removed it... problem solved.

Example: The price of a share is 7.62 $. If the current price is, for example, 7.70 $, the ticker says "-0.02" instead of "+0.08"...

I love this ticker and is the best one I can find if it worked. The issue is it makes firefox very unusable and crashes all the time... Would love for this to be updated and working because when it works its great!

Overall this add-on is greats, but seem like i causes firefox to crash frequently when adding new tab.

for suggestion, if the pricing can provide up to 3 decimal place would be better (maybe can provide setting on formatting price quote)

My Firefox crashes as well (like koojo's) due to the current version of StockTicker. I have it disabled now, and my Firefox runs fine all day. This is unfortunate since I liked it and want to use it. Other than being unstable, I would like to be able to maximize the "View all" window...

I loved the ticker, very handy...but when I tried to open new tabs, firefox crashed like 25% of the time. I knew it was the ticker's fault because the problem started happening after I installed the ticker, and no more crashes after I got rid of it.

related to Simon's review, chinese character cannot be displayed.
not just this. If I put in the stock no as the name, it will dispaly 9999.99 format..
e.g. stock no 123 it will display 123.00
no currency / numeric format should applied on the name..

A perfect design integrate into browser. However, it cannot display Chinese fonts or unicode.
Hope, it will have a update version to fix the chinese fonts issue.

Good add on because it's simple and effective. There are a few issues with it that need fixing.

First it gets stuck on a quote price, to get it to refresh you need to Add/Edit - this happens when I leave my PC unattended for a few hours. A refresh button would be good.

Second if you modify the colours they are not consistent between the title bar display and the bottom display and it doesn't handle new browser windows too well.

However it a great add on!

This little add-on is really great. It is simple and easy to use. However, I experienced some very unstable situation after using this. It hangs up my Firefox whenever there is anything pop-up even that is allowed in my setting. I think that may due to its update.
Besides, it cannot shows 16-bit characters like Chinese in its toolbar.

Hope to see improvement in the future.

I have used your add-on. Great work but it seems that it increases the usage of the CPU by at least double (when i put in about 5 stock to rotate in the ticker).\r\n\r\nMaybe you can look into it at the next revision.

You get an 8 on features. However, this add-on is incredibly unstable on my Firefox 2.0.0.3, to the point that I had to stop using it. It's too bad there aren't any other extensions updated for FF 2.0 - if the stability issues with this get fixed, I will start using it again, and maybe drop another review with a good rating :)

Adds a Bloomberg/MSNBC like streamer, for the symbols you choose along the top and a slideshow type steamer in the bottom right corner. Either of which can be turned off or expanded into another window which links to NYX's site.
