no response from notaries... even http://www.networknotary.org/ is down. Wasn't the idea to build a network of notaries that is more reliable than any single https site?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.2.1-signed).

I'm sorry that you're having trouble reaching the notaries. It may be that you are behind a proxy that is blocking notary connections.

For another else reading this, I would like to point out that the notaries are not a single site. There are 8 different servers running on a total of 4 different continents.

I am afraid that I have to agree with Bob Smith's review. The issue seems to be two-fold. First, many sites do not manage certificates in a manner consistent with Perspectives. Second, Perspectives seems to have problems with their array of notaries, especially mornings EST. In either case, the add-on is not of serious use. I have also uninstalled it.

Uninstalled. After several months of use, I got tired of seeing "no results" from their servers. Like a security company that fails to answer the phone half the time - what good is it? Perspectives is a noble effort and I wish them luck as they move forward.

This appears to be very similar to the "convergence" add-on. Is there any major difference?

I couldn't agree more with the previous review. This extensions is abolutely great and indispensable. Please update it to make it compatible with newer FF versions!

Glad you find the extension useful. Just confirmed that it works with FF 6 and updated the compatibility, so it should be working now.

I have been using this addon for a long time, even before it was available on AMO and I love what it accomplishes and the simplicity by which it does so. I believe people would benefit from having it. I strongly urge the developers to please keep on top of the rapid Fx versioning and keep the addon compatible. Thank you.

I've been running this for several months and it works great. This addon closes a fundamental gap in PKI - IMHO it's essential!

I've checked current version (4.0), and it seems that the issues are mentioned earlier have been resolved. I don't see any unnecessary DNS lookups, and all the traffic goes via proxy if it is configured in Firefox.

Requests to Notaries stay non-encrypted, but this probably does not a pose any serious risk.

Hello, I am using Firefox 3.6.6 can you please update the extension to work with this version?

Also, would you please create a similar extension for both Chrome and Safari?

I know I'm asking a lot of you, but your work is very valuable and I use it daily. Please consider spending a little time to keep this great add-on up to date. :)

I e-mailed the developers, and got a prompt reply suggesting that others had uninstalled the Perspectives add-on, and re-installed it, and it would work with the new FireFox. I tried that, and it DID work for me! Now, hopefully, they will fix those security leaks being reported by VladV! Otherwise a fine add-on to help me decide for myself if a site questioned by FireFox is OK to access or not!

Now that I'm on 3.6.2, Firefox is saying "This add-on is for older versions of Firefox."

When will you be updating your release to cover the new version?

Fabulous, I get to use self-signed certificates again! Works great in combination with Certificate Patrol to see what actually happened.

Without this add-on, online banking/shopping is not safe from Man-In-The-Middle attacks (MITM). See Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-in-the-middle_attack

Perspectives 3.0.3 works very quietly and adds another layer of protection to my web browsing.

The updated version 3.0.2 completely revamps the extension's appearance and is working fine on 3.5b4 for me. I got this via browser addon updating.

Great plugin. Would be even better if you integrated the mitm plugin into this.

Great extension if you use it correctly. I don't like the idea about bypassing any security warnings but this can be turned off. What I like is the function to have all certificates compared from other locations what seems like a good way to protect yourself from "Man in the middle attacks".
