What you're asking for does exist already.
You can set all filetypes you want and you can also set a delay.
If you set a "*" (without the quotes!), all filetypes will disappear.

hope back some useful functions:
mouse over to preview pics,
mouse over to see download progress,
right click to rename

I Love version 2.0.0 and I especially like the new "Download Item Width & Height set" feature in the options.

DRAG AND DROP? I can't move my downloaded files to desktop. Please add this function to add-on. Thank you!

Hey all, I haven't installed this addon personally so please ignore my rating. What I'd like to draw your attention to is my review of the original Download Statusbar where I provide the ftp link for version 24 of Firefox which is apparently the last version to support the Download Statusbar addon. Who knows, maybe this one is better (no bad wishes to the developer of this replacement addon which is why I invite people to go look for my Dec 26 2013 'pkdraw' review on the other page for the link if that's what they're looking for..) but I prefer to stick with the original so just giving folk the opportunity to consider alternatives.

I have been using previous versions for around two years. DSB is one of my favorite FF extensions. The ability to color code downloading items based on the download speed is a handy feature.

Further impressive good work!

The width of the status bar can be preset now.
However, the individual downloads will continue be shown only in a width of 150px. They should fill the full width of the status bar.
