My Reviews

Classic Toolbar Buttons [Tb24-58] (discontinued)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

'Classic Small Toolbar Buttons' v. 1.0.7pre1 (sandbox) fits itself and the icons perfectly well here on Firefox 12b2. Just what I was looking for, better than my expectancies.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.6.1-signed).

TheRealURL

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

If you visit what is presented here as the the processing site, that is TheRealURL.net, you may notice it hard to find (if it is there) this add-on on their homepage, homepage which moreover is closer to an encyclopedia than to an index : some programmers still don't understand that a homepage must be short and attractive, clear and fast to load. In these circumstances why would I even bother with this add-on ?
3 stars as an average of 1 (above mentioned) and 5 (I hate being affirmative of whatever).
Another time, if what I've mentioned has been corrected, maybe then will I spare a few minutes :) Gosh, you have to understand that there are thousands of add-ons here so if you want to make it, commit yourself, that is if you really care.

Master Password+

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm confronted to a strange little problem :
If I find myself on a page for which I have log-in credentials and if at the same time I have not logged in to Master Password and disabled notification to do so, then I lose focus of the Web page just as if a hidden notification pop-up was getting that focus. Now at this point I ignore if it is related to my system or not. A bit bothering, moreover if I have another user on the computer and wish that sites for which I have a login be not revealed ...
Has anyone else experienced this issue ?

Disable clipboard manipulations

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks for bringing our attention -- mine, anyway -- to this privacy-related "bug", and thanks for fixing it until it be taken care of in coming version(s) of Firefox.
Indeed I knew nothing of sites being aware of copying/pasting on their pages. You learn every day.
I'll have to take the author's word for it since I have no way, not being in the business, to check efficiency of this add-on, hoping there is no side-effect.

Memory Fox

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

@jrod : "Browser only" as it mentions, handles Firefox's RAM only, whilst "All processes" manages all processes you can find in your "Task Manager".
Personally I prefer this version 7.4 to the 7.5.3 which is available on the author's site. Here MF 7.4 with "All Processes" works brilliantly, close the browser and "afom.exe" remains working in the background, and doing a hell of a great job.
Don't forget, if you opt for "All Processes" that MF has in iys options a blacklist available in case should some apps/processes should rather not be managed (none here at this time)

About Startup

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

A millisecond precision is pointless here. Users I think find it short, medium or long to have an application start, but don't require a stopwatch precision.
All add-ons are worthy for the commitment of their author but, frankly, some are really totally useless. IMHO of course.

QuickPasswords

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

There are sites where Firefox is unable to stick your logons, with QuickPasswords it will stick them there as well.
There are sites where Firefox is unable to remember your logons, with other great extension 'Saved Password Editor' it will remember there as well.
Both add-ons are very nicely thought and done, they are complementary.
EDITed : 'Password Editor' was, is of course 'Saved Password Editor'

Memory Fox

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I had tried 'Memory Fox' some time ago (version 5.x I think) and had been disappointed by recurring issues. This version 7.4 is absolutely amazing as far as i'm concerned. I'm running it with default options on Firefox Browser only. The result is incredible, I say: stunned ...
EDIT: forgot to mention: Firefox 8 on XP SP3 (as with previous versions of 'Memory Fox')

DuckDuckGo (HTTPS / SSL)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As others here I consider this search engine as a most valuable alternative to other engines which for some have become totally bloated. No longer an alternative, DuckDuckGo is from now on my default search engine. It is brilliant, lacks nothing, offers more, including absolute privacy, with or without cookie (for settings). Definitely a must, IMO.

Is It Compatible?

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Same as user klint mentioned: slows down enormously add-on manager display when many add-ons (60+ here). I'll use it with Thunderbird though (very few extensions). Handy. I still don't understand why displaying add-on compatibilities is not default to Firefox and Thunderbird.

UnMHT

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Version 5.7.1 in sandbox ready-teddy for Firefox 7 compatibility. Nice to see this old chap back on the rails! I've been a UnMHT user for years, then switched to 'Mozilla Archive Format' when the former lacked updates. I may come back home, now that I think of it :) One thing I know (hence the 5 stars) is that it has always been an efficient-no_problem add-on.

eCleaner

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Even though I take care in cleaning prefs.js after removing an add-on, eCleaner still found old dust, even an inconsistency I've been moving with for several years :)Developers : your work for bringing up Firefox add-ons is appreciated by all (you participate to the success of Firefox) but please, please, please : give to your extensions' data names in accordance with that of your add-on and, in particular, avoid digital names à la {juujej5558dshhe99ccjhhhdhdh} which are a real pain when you have to clean-up, as well as abbreviations (MAF for Mozilla Archive Format is maybe obvious when you have 3 add-ons and/or after install, but after some time and 60 extensions, it is a pain as well. Also, please, do not dispatch within several names data for the same add-on (I've seen an add-on with 3 unrelated names in prefs.js).This said, thanks again to all mighty developers!

Readability

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Why do three similar add-ons get written by one sole author ?
All three seem to be far, very far from what was the original Arc90 project. Slow, heavy, when they work that is. Enjoy Reading !

Remember Passwords

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great. Up to now I had to run a bookmarklet (almost same name: 'remember password'), this brilliant little add-on just makes my life easier: thanks! (Yes, I've tested).

Master Password+

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Having abandoned 'LastPass' and now using Firefox's built-in password manager (which by the way is well done), 'Master Password+' appears to be the perfect complement, easy as logic is, "pro" in its handling of every detail. I also appreciate the option of refusing access to the browser itself without typing the master password at start. Very nice achievement.

CS Lite Mod

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks to the author for his quick reply to my last post.I've continued using/testing this add-on since then, and all aspects of cookie management are well processed. Icons moreover are an enchantment not only for the eyes but in their first duty which is to be relevant of their symbol. Coding an add-on is already not an easy job, but I think adapting an old extension is even tougher. Hence, bringing 'CS Lite' to a re-birth in a clear, no-confusing "fluent" cookie manager is a challenge I think here has been (is) well considered. I'm sticking on this one in its category, because it is well thought and not confusing (when one knows that cookies can lead to misunderstandings). May the author keep on with this nice re-make which in a way is almost a new baby.

CS Lite Mod

Works nicely.
Just one option I don't understand : "Block untrusted hosts that are allowed". I've been dealing with cookie issues for years, but I just don't understand this point!

Readability

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Readability has been the first of its category and for some time the best. But this add-on is no longer reliable. Once it works, the day after no echo, then suddenly how nice back on stage but the day after no one home. Fed up, moving to another -- stable -- comparable add-on.

Scriptish

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I read the developer's reply to my last post, I understand better and, considering the extra benefits of this latest version 0.1.3, will be sticking on it till next.
The best thing to do to avoid the waiting cursor in the Add-on manager is to quit the Manager on another list than Scriptish, returning to AOM will then grip on latest list, and no problem.

Scriptish

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

With new version 0.1.3, after restarting Firefox after normal install restart, the Add-on Manager does not display, or rather the page is displayed but not the content, the cursor turns indefinitely ... I switched back to Scriptish 0.1 accordingly.
