I deleted an addressbook with all of my work contacts by accident. This app helped to at least get back the email addresses and most of the names. I had to download it and install to the add-ons file, then used thunderbird to install it via the drop down menu in the add-ons window. I also modified about:config to not check for version compatibility. Saved me from having to re-enter 800+ addresses. I'll still have to sort through them, but they are all there somewhere. :) Thanks!

This addon does not work. At least not with the recent versions of TB. I need to create lists of clients using complex email searches from within my messages directories. My wish is to make a search, select all messages found in the search, right click them and see an option to export all "recipients" and/or "senders" to a csv file or text file or whatever simple list format to create lists and/or to a TB address book. Anyone able ? This is really missing.

I have installed version 5 from https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/index-en.html#eac.
I works fine with Thunderbird v10.
However, when my contacts already exist in another address book, EMail Address Crawler does not duplicate them in the targeted address book :(

Keep this big fat caveat in mind: if you chose to save the crawled addresses in an address book, any crawled addresses that exist in ANY address book (not just the one you selected) WILL BE SKIPPED. Learned this one the hard way!

Paolo "Kaosmos" has updated the module to version 5.0 and claims it to be compatible with Thunderbird 9.
You can download it from his page :

(I have not tested it yet)

This looks like a great add-on. But although it installed on TB 9.0.1 and looks like it works....I dont see the adresses in address book. Im inclined to believe it doesnt work with this most recent version....thanks, im sure its a great addon, if it worked for newer TB versions.

It was a good addon this and very useful but the developer has stopped supporting it and it hasn't worked with any recent versions of Thunderbird. Look forward to the day it is updated, but not holding my breathe

Work perfectly on TB 3.1.12. Lots of options and easy to use. It was just what I needed.
A nice option would be to output to csv, but it's easy enough to export from a new address book.

I love this add-on, it's my favourite. Please can you make a version that works with Thunderbird 6? :)

Just installed it for Thunderbird 3.1.10 under Ubuntu Maverick 10.10. At first I couldn't figure out how to access it; just right click on a folder and it is the last item on the list. I just migrated over from Windows, and had emails going back to 1997. Just created an address book with almost 4000 addresses. Wow, just great. Thanks!

NOP, sorry, I take my good review back.
It only works the first time.
Every time thereafter you crawl again (cause you get new mail, new addresses, right? - It would tell you that it added, say 1/2/3 addresses but in actual did "Nothing"
So once you used it the first time, thereafter it just goes nuts! ;-)

'EMail Address Crawler 3' works flawlessly with TB 3.1.10 and Windows XP SP3. FEATURE REQUESTS: 1) An additional option to exclude email addresses of specific (sub)domains (like @docs.google.com, @reply.facebook.com, @groups.facebook.com, @news.*), 2) An additional option to exclude specific mailboxes (like mailer-daemon@, noreply@, postmaster@, info@, support@) and 3) An additional column with the (sub)domain name of the email address for sorting purposes.

Hi there,
Excellent tool, thanks a lot for that work!
Something could even improve it a lot, ant that would be to extract emails from the bodies of the texts!
Cheers

Using TB 3.0.10 on Linux. Created new address book just to receive addresses extracted, and moved some messages with long lists of recipients into a folder with nothing else in it. Reported addresses saved but none appear. Now it is likely that all the addresses are already in address books, but this tool is only useful if it ignores that and saves the addresses into the selected address book anyway. Any late word on this?
The most common way I would use this tool is when I want to do a reply-all to a message with many more recipients than my access provider will let me send to at once. I would copy the message to a special Extract folder, then use this tool to extract all the addresses into a special Extract address book. From there I can either send to a fraction of them at a time, or export the address book contents to a file, sftp it to my hosting provider, ssh in, and send on that server, for which there is not the recipient limit. Alternatively, I could import into a tool like Mailman for use as a listserv.

It says Successful, but where do the addresses are copied? there's no track.
It says 250 address copied in address book I select, but only one there.
Only 3 address folders showing in the menu, where I have more, AND subfolders (which I ignored just to cause less troubles).
I think some day I will find A hidden unnamed address book full of the copied-somewhere-ones!
Thank you anyway, I tried!

No it works on TB 1.3.7. The problem is that the contact is in other address book, for example "addresses collected".
Verify it.
