Great add-on, but would like to have some control over the actual target folder when exporting all
.messages in a folder in EML format
Currently it creates additional folders so I have to cut and paste the exported files to where I
want them. thanks for providing this extension
L
thanks for the review! I am not sure if you are refereeing to the attachment folders ?

Added via TBird Add-Ons Manager, restarted, yet this does not appear in Tools menu. There is an 'Import' entry, but it just lets me import Becky & Outlook mailboxes.
I have 3 different mailboxes I'd like to merge into one.
Please help!
D
sorry for the confusion. the extension adds menus to the main menu toolbar Tools Menu as well as context menus for both folders and messages
check out to built-in help for menu descriptions

Thanks for the good addon
However, there is a problem with the import function of the .eml file.
No matter how many times you enter it, more than 450 cannot be loaded at once.
I will read 600, 700, but the actual input is 450.
Thank you

Chris, I just recovered my old Inbox and Sent folders containing thousands of emails using your add-on which worked perfectly. It took about 10 minutes to figure out after the add-on was installed. Where do I send a donation for this excellent software.
Thanks

Don't know how well this plugin works. The dialogs read like broken English.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (10.0.4).B
I know there is never enough information but, I started adding internal help ( fully localized) did you check that out?
images a listing of all the ContextMenus as well as some option details. the extension has lots of permutations
and I agree it is not always obvious.
I would be happy to answer questions in the repository:

The extension is great when it works, but it suffers from very poorly worded descriptions and instructions, and a confusing menu layout. It is not quite as straightforward to simply export and import mail, there's a lot of strange caveats and gotchas. If you're looking to export an enormous mail account with a lot of folders, you're going to have a frustrating time.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (10.0.2).B
many of your comments and concerns are very valid. improving or changing the menu system has been on my list for a while. I introduced the first integrated help for the extension focusing on menu descriptions| hopefully found that helpful.
it would be great if you had some specifics that you thought would be most helpful to improve. can you open an issue in the repository?

Looks comprehensive and certainly the export function seems to work fine. Trouble is the import does not work. I tested by doing an export of everything with structure then tried to import in a fresh copy of TB and ended up with virtually nothing added other than a folder in the wrong place :-(
Will keep exploring and will update if I succeed!
Have edited rating as seems a tad hash as I have managed to get import partially working but the folder hierarchy is lost
B
the import definitely works, the thing that is not directly obvious is that there are only some ways to report with structure. Can you open an issue in the repository where I can help you.
https://github.com/thundernest/import-export-tools-ng/issues
Also have you read the internal help? it is by no means complete ,but it describes each of the menu items as well as special options.

None of the 10.x releases show in Tb 68 menus. 4.1.0 works.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (10.0.2).F
Please report problems the repository not the reviews.
I can help you there,68 should be working well.

I love this add-on, for what it tries to do.
Except that for me it only works about 10% of the time.
Right now, I want to archive a 1080-message folder & after 7 attempts so far, ImportExportTools has not managed to export more than 1020. Every export seems to stop arbitrarily half or 2/3 of the way through. I can't find any reason for this.
Edit:
On the 10th attempt, I changed the destination folder (to the same disk as my TB folders) and it worked. I also slowed my Inbox "Fetch new messages" setting to 30 minutes (It's usually 5) as this seemed to be interrupting the Export process.

Great add-on! Would have been 5 star if they read all files including .pst

What a life saver. I have been a Thunderbird user for many years with emails going back to 2008, I was using an old HP Windows Laptop that finally had to go. I opted to get the new Macbook Air with M1 chip. Now I had to migrate from Windows to MacOS - Big Sur. I had read all the older articles on migration from one OS to another and was dreading it. I gave this add-on a try and it worked as slick as it could. I exported from the laptop to a thumb drive. Then imported on the Macbook from the thumb drive. The file size was over 14Gb. Did not loose an email or attachment. What a life saver. Fantastic add-on to say the least

Thank you very much for the very nice review!
I took over the extension over a year ago and am doing my best to keep up. it's really great to hear from users like yourself having the extension solve a problem.

It doesn't seem to be able to import the very files which it exports.
I exported my files as backups before switching my email address to a new webhost, where I would lose all my data if I didn't back it up. Those files had no extension, but they took up many MBs of storage so I know the information is there. But now the addon's import feature won't recognize the very files which it exported. So those files seem to be useless for now. I'm hoping there's a way to read them and import them somehow.
Matt
can you open an issue in the repository where we can troubleshoot this, I think you're trying to import
a backup which is a different type of file setup

It seems to be a very interesting addon but I am getting the error message: [Java script application] Because of a Thunderbird bug, the feature is not available on this platform when I try to save selected messages to PDF. I am running version 78.4.0 (64-bit) on a Mac running Mojave 10.14.6.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (10.0.1).F
unfortunately PDF output 4 does not work on OS X, this is an internal limitation of Thunderbird
have not found a solution yet.

The plugin is pretty good as it is, but it could be better. What I (and I'm sure others) want to do is export all of my messages and attachments in all of my subfolders and their subfolders from my Local Folders (or folders/subfolders/messages from any email account). I can do this, but I cannot then choose the file format. So, it would be good if I could choose the file format regardless of where I'm exporting from. If I choose the default format (not even sure what that is) it is basically unreadable. Oh, it shows up in a web browser or a text editor, but it is unreadable and looks like, although I haven't dug into this too much, the attachments are coded into that text. Oh, and selecting multiple folders only exports the messages in those folders, not their subfolders. The way it works now is extremely time consuming to get all of my messages from either folders under Local Folders or any email account. Yes, I do know that I'm being recursive here. It's such a tiny little box to type in.

I'm trying to import a .mbox file from google takeout with this addon and when i click the option "ImportExportTools" on the Tools menu, it doesn't appear anything. I'm using Thunderbird version 78.4.0 (32-bit)
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (10.0.1).this is either a question or issue either of which should go with the repository
