This is the only workaround for ubuntu 14.04 with FF 40.0 and buggy html5 playback, so I can use Flash until bugs are solved.
Thank you.

Works ok but only for fresh page loads and not refresh or links.

BROKEN. It does stop the video from autoplay but it also stops it from ever playing at all. Even when you click on the play button or logo now the Youtube video won't load!
It's useless!

The trick with "media.windows-media-foundation.enabled" setting to false, also doesn't work. It forces flash player and so this addon is effectively useless.

Useless. All it does is cover the video with an overlay while the video continues to run behind it.

In order to make this work again following needs to be set to false
media.windows-media-foundation.enabled;false
in about:config

For a couple of weeks the add-on worked fine, but now on some videos's on YouTube a error message: Click To Play appears. when you do the video won't play! On a other video the audio plays fine but the page with the upload won't show up!

Doesn't work on current Firefox 36. I hear the audio playing and the video seems to be streaming, but invisible. Clicking restores video without delay, reinforcing the feeling the video was playing anyway and was hidden.

installed but videos still play HTML5, can't disable at https://www.youtube.com/html5

Does what it says it does, but as it says, it only works on YouTube. Since YouTube uses Flash by default (and you should unquestionably have Flashblock already installed), where it's really needed is on other sites that use html5 videos only, like theonion.com. Given how annoying autoplay videos are, it's hard to believe there isn't a more functional one out there already, but this seems like the only one?

Does what it's supposed to do and does it well!
Only problem is with playlists, it plays even when "blocked" element is showing.

It stops the video playback, but the sound is "loading" underneath (consumes Internet traffic).

Thank you :) Would be nice if it could cache while paused.

Works with Yahoo html5 as well. Thanks!

Great add-on. Thank you! Works fine.
I wonder why Youtube/Google makes this necessary at all. They could easily set the video status to "paused" when you load a page. So you could start playing it with one click.
In the past I used FlashBlock instead but Youtube has changed something to make it incompatible...

Thanks, it works!I tried with "YouTube ALL HTML5" (http://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/youtube-all-html5/) addon to get youtube into HTML5 mode - so it works even without an account.
Thank you for review and reporting compatibility with other addon
