Thank you for making this possible for TB 102 and the very good documentation! Without that documentation I would never be able to create my API. In my case it didn't work for the first time as google seemed to forgot my test user. After that with a couple of retries to connect it worked at the end.
Thank you for that!

The new version basically works with TB 102, but Oauth setup with Gmail is very complex for regular users.
It is also a pity it does not sync contacts photos as it once did!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.4.1).

Thanks for Your review.

However - as stated in the homepage, in the README, on the GitHub website - I am not the one to be blamed for the complexity of the Oauth setup procedure: this is unfortunately how things must work, it's simply not my fault, and there is absolutely nothing I can do about. Please blame Google, not me...

As per the contact photos, Google-4-TbSync never supported them. I think You're probably confusing my add-on with another (gContactSync maybe?).
This feature is in my TODO-list however, so it will slip into production sooner or later...

Thanks,
MZ

Put me down as another one that would LOVE to have Google support for TB-Sync!!

The new TB102-compatible version is ready and will be released in a few days.

Yes, a TB 102+ version is planned. I'm still waiting for TbSync to be ported first, then John will kindly help me do my port. So I can't schedule a release date right now...

OAuth user interface sucks ass and is completely unsuitable for end-user usage.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.0).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Once again, thanks for your second "kind" review!
A little bit of politeness would help, considering I'm giving for free the result of hundreds of hours of work (yes, coding, testing, debugging, writing documentation, replying to tickets and comments: it all takes time).

As clearly stated in the documentation, I know that generating the Google Project credentials is not an easy step for an end user, but it simply cannot be any different: hardcoding such credentials would be a violation of Google Terms - and I'm not willing to do so, even if many others do.
Please blame Google for this constraint, not me.

If you have concrete ideas on how to improve the project, you are welcome to open a GitHub ticket.

Or, if you're absolutely disgusted, you can use some alternative add-on.

Great plugin, but now not compatible with 102.0.2 :(

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.0).

Thanks for Your review!

I confim that a TB102-compatible version is planned.
Unfortunately, this requires a nearly-complete rewrite and, most important, a TB102-compatible TbSync too: so it will take some time before I will write and release it...

Ciao Marco , grazie per il componente che ho sostituito a Contact Sync , ti chiedevo se sarà disponibile un aggiornamento per Thunderbird 102 , grazie , saluti , Gabriele

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.0).

Ciao Gabriele,

Grazie,
MZ

Hi Gabriele,

thanks for Your review.

Yes, Google-4-TbSync will be ported to TB102... but not in a short time: I must wait for John Bieling to port his TbSync add-on to TB102 first, then I will have to rewrite a huge part of mine (which works on TbSync).
Maybe by the end of summer?

Thanks,
MZ

I was skeptical of this to start as to sync with Google I had to create my own Google console app. In fact the instructions were clear, and I was able to link to this account without problems.

It takes a bit of time, but it's better than copying csv files around.

Thunderbird freeze on initial sync with Google People API, not recovering. 4600 contacts, 60 groups.
On google API console only very brief connection, thread eats whole CPU core but seems not connecting to Google API.

For Your issues, please open specific tickets on GitHub, so I can better handle them.
The first however is a well-known one. Until a newly-written version comes out, You can mitigate the situation by unchecking the "Include system groups" flag.

Marco.
I'm always the first a-hole to complain. Therefore I need to be the first with the praise as well. You did a good job with the documentation "How-to-Do"! In a situation like this one it is essential that users actually can understand the setup procedure. Google is a bitch but you gottem!

Just installed and - Wohoho! This was complicated.
However, following your step-by-step, I got it working on the first attempt!
NICE!

Unfortunately, creating the Google credentials is complicated - but there isn't much I can do about that...

Thank you Marco.
Now during the sync Thunberdird freezes too :P.
So I'll wait... because I'm not the specialist you are :D

I suspect some mistake when creating the credentials. Could You please check step-by-step and try again?

Very good and useful tool! Why 3 stars? Because during the sync Thunberdird freezes!!! Can you resolve it?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.0).

Thanks for Your review.

Yes, Google-4-TbSync is still in its early releases, and this is one of the issues.
I think it could be circumvented by using the "workers". But this would be a major rewrite of the code, and I'm waiting for another one to happen first (i.e. migrating to the WebExtensions API).

Eventually, it will be fixed and synchronizations will be possible in the background. But I can't tell You when.

In the meanwhile, You can speed things up a little by unchecking the "Include system contact groups" and "Use verbose logging" options.

Thanks,
MZ

Excellent !!
A bit complex to configure the API credentials. However, the step-by-step guide is well explained. So, it may be done.

Important suggestion: Please in the first step of the guide, explain well how to add the Google account. The icon displayed in Thunderbird is too small to see. Anyone can get stuck in that

I would like to thank the author for stepping into the void when G-Contact-Sync was dropped without warning. I was planning on using this plugin but found a better way with TB 91.

In the address book select File > New > CardDAV Address Book

This linked directly with my Google Contacts account--you put in your G-Mail address.

You can then select that address book once it's installed and right click Properties and rename it.

There is also a "read only" option in the setup which I'll use when I provide this link to others.

Again, thanks for your efforts!

Yes, TB now supports the CardDAV protocol natively.
Which, however, wasn't an issue because there were other TB add-ons providing CardDAV support.

The problem is that Google itself doesn't fully support it: there is no support for contact groups (aka labels), although I admit I haven't tested recently.

So, my add-ons plans to provide full support, groups included.

Thanks,
MZ
