My Reviews

Rise of the Tools

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Five stars when it worked, but that stopped with Supernova. The author says that it's no longer necessary, but this simply isn't the case. Many people are like me and want to have the Unified Toolbar between the Menu Bar and the Tab Bar. In fact, There's even a website devoted to making that change using CSS Stylesheet Code support (I don't know if Mozilla allows inclusion of website addresses in these reviews, so I won't do so.) If this extension was under development again and it could do this, I guarantee that it would be a very popular extension indeed.

ImportExportTools NG

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great extension. Only one problem I ran into was when I tried to export my archives folder using the "Export folder with subfolders (with structure)" option. What resulted was correctly structured, but the bulk of the subfolders didn't have the .sbd extension. In fact, they didn't have any extension at all, so I was unable to use them to put anything in.

PrintingTools NG

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great for me because it allows me to hide the headers completely. This means I can print the email in a larger size. Great job!

I'm another happy user. This extension is very well written and works very nicely.

Xpunge

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I just updated to TB ver. 91.2.1 and Xpunge quit working. I tried disabling it and then re-enabling it, but that didn't work. Next I tried removing the extension and all its settings, then reinstalling it. This worked and things are back to normal. Great extension, really does the job.

Filter on Folder Button

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Buttons work great, but too bad they're fixed. I can move them, but when I restart TB they go back to their original locations. I presume this is an API limitation. Good to have a filter button again though.

Xpunge

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

MulitiXpunge works fine, but remember that you need to go into the extension's options and tell it which account or folders within an account need to be compacted. Personally, I think this is a great extension and should be built into Thunderbird.

Show All Body Parts

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The continual dunning for contributions has totally turned me off to this extension. I'm going to remove it and do without.

Delete Trash Button

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I wanted to revise my original review, but can't because the site won't allow it for some reason. So here's another one. Be advised that when you run this extension, it also compacts all of your folders. It also removes the "Empty Trash" item from the "File" menu dropdown. I'll probably still continue to use it, but it would be better if it only emptied the trash and left that menu item alone. There is no support option for this extension either, no way to contact the author that I can find.

Delete Trash Button

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very happy to see this extension and my sincere thanks to the author. My only suggestion is that the button label be changed simply to "Empty Trash". I use the toolbars "icon and text" setting, so this would take up less space.

Phoenity Buttons

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works perfectly. This puts back some of the buttons lost when the "Toolbar Buttons" extension became incompatible with newer versions of Thunderbird. It even adds a new one which quickly opens my profile. Many thanks to the developer!

Header Tools Lite

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It was a great extension, but it won't be updated to work with TB 68+. As a workaround though, simply save an email as a file with an .eml extension and then open it in a text editor like Jarte. After you make the changes and save the file, drag and drop it back into TB. Works for me every time.

My four star rating is for what the extension used to be. One star lost because it the extension won't be updated anymore.

Header Tools Lite

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

For no reason that I can come up with, this extension just quit working in the middle of a session. I have it installed in Thunderbird 52.9.1 (32-bit). The option to use it is still there in the context menu, but it's grayed out. Nothing I've attempted will restore it's functionality. When this extension worked, it was wonderful. I was able to remove tons of unwanted stuff from archived emails so that I was able to reduce their size for storage.

(Later) For some reason, the extensions mysteriously started working again. Accordingly, I've revised my rating. Header Tools Lite is a vital keeper.

(Even later) I found out what the problem was. Instead of simply right-clicking on a message's listing in order to get to the context menu, I have to left click on the listing first so as to select it, THEN right click on the selected listing to see the extension un-grayed out in the context menu. I hope that makes sense to others. It's the best I can do to explain the problem I was having.

Lightning

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I don't care what other people are complaining about, this extension works perfectly for me and is very well designed. Very intuitive and full-featured. In fact, it was easily able to open an .ics file which Google Calendar was unable to import! I'm very glad that the Thunderbird authors decided to include this one by default in TB. Well done!

Use Bcc Instead

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Yep, I did the big no-no and sent out a group email using "To:". In my followup ("BCC"ed) apology email, I resolved never to make that mistake again. This extension is exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks!

Menu Wizard

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Several times now (periodically, but not every single time) since installing this extension, I've started Firefox only to have an unwanted tab open urging me to donate money to the Menu Wizard developer. I opened the extension's options to see if I could stop this from happening, and saw "Advertising is disabled" at the bottom of the list of settings, but no option for turning this nagging nonsense on or off. Although this extension works as advertised, it also nags you to donate. For engaging in this behavior, I'm giving it a rating of 2.

Extension List Dumper 2

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This morning I got an update in Thunderbird for the original Extension List Dumper. It didn't work. This version though, does the job perfectly. Thanks very much for this excellent extension. Highly recommended to others.

Save Images

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Don't know why the page says that this extension isn't commpatible with FF48+. I just installed it and used it with no problems whatsoever. My copy of Firefox is 32 bit, 50.0.2.

Download YouTube Videos as MP4

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This one works when others don't. I only wish that it were possible to obtain higher resolution versions of the video via this extension.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.8.3.1-signed).

Toolbar Buttons

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I had thought that the extension had bugs, but it turns out that was because I like to put the buttons from the Mail Toolbar on the Menu Bar. Doing that makes it so that the order of the buttons isn't maintained. However, that's not a standard way of using the extension, so it was my fault. I moved the buttons back onto the Mail Toolbar and now everything works fine. I highly recommend this extension.
