A complete waste of time. All I get is a message saying the the add-on is not compatible with my version of Firefox. None of the other versions seem to work either - so I have to put up with the eccentricities of American English. Ugh!

I finally got this to work by adding the Dictionary Switcher Add-in, seems to depend what websites you are visiting as to which dictionary (English Gb or US) is invoked.

For everything I do. I recommend this add on for UK users.

We know it works perfectly, but it is never updated enough. What shall I do? I am never able to use it!

I could only install this as the root user on Debian Lenny AMD64, but it wouldn't work as an ordinary user. To fix this, do (in a root terminal):
chown o+r /usr/lib/iceape/dictionaries/*

It would be nice if this add-on was updated to be usable in the current version of Thunderbird 2.

Phil79, are you sure you've selected it as your main dictionary? Here it does not flag 'favourite', 'centre', or 'colour'.
Cheers!

OK but still flags lots of correct British spellings as mistakes and gives American spellings as corrections. It really makes me question myself as to whether I've made a mistake or the dictionary has.
e.g it flags favourite and tries to correct to favorite

I installed it on my internet machine using the automatic installer. OK
We have a private "air gapped network" so I found the file on the ftp site and down loaded it, copied it across the gap. Will it install? Will it *******! It's not compatible with Firefox 3.0.1
Please can we have the compatible version on the FTP site.

PS. Why do we have to give it a one star rating if you can't install it, it can't be worth anything.

To Richard English:
Try the Australian dictionary instead. I realise it is a compromise, but better than American for those of us who spell English words correctly (it corrects color but it still appears to accept both -ise and -ize).

Complete waste of time. It won't install, telling me that British English Dictionary 1.19 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.1.
As this is the latest version of Firefox and the version, therefore, that most will have, this add-on is rather pointless.
So I suppose I have simply to put up with US English spell-check (as if the Americans knew how to spell!)

Works fine however many words are still of the American variety, more of an English dictionary rather than British English. You still have to go back and check before deciding if your English spelling is correct or go with the possible American version it gives.

Very useful little tool, but is there a way to change the options?
It allows spellings using -ize endings, and it's doing my head in!
