Thanks for getting out release 1.5. I works fine with TB 15.0. I hacked 1.4 for TB 14, but was going to have to do it again until I found your update. This is one of my most useful and appreciated add-ons.

Hi,

Just upgraded to TB 15, While add-on does not come up is incompatible, the same bug that occurred in TB14 is present here. And the fix that was proposed by ck55 does not work in TB15. Will you please fix this.

This one of the really useful addons. The Bug with TB14 can be fixed with the workaround by ck55, thanks a lot! To the developer: please update, many people will be thankful!

Thanks ck55! It works....so we can use it for TB14... at the moment.
But there are another "bugs" with two buttons. If you mark a contact, the "Delete" button did not work, it's always Gray. I think there is a problem with "marking" a position. If you mark 2 contacts by holding "Shift" the button become in foreground and works.
Similar it is the same with the button "New Group". After opening the tab it's Gray. Choosing a alternative second address book bring it to foreground. Otherwise you mark 2 contacts - it will bring this button also :-(
Please repair this famous Addon

This is a very useful addon that I have been using on a number of machines running various versions of linux and thunderbird. The fix by ck55 means that I can continue to run it with TB14 and I am rolling the fix out onto all the machines I look after. I encourage the developer to update his excellent piece of work so the many thousands of other users can continue to use it with TB14.

It's actually quite simple to fix the bug, if you can work with 7-zip and a text editor:
1) open the addressbooktab-1.4.2-tb.xpi with 7-zip file manager and go to /chrome/.
2) Open the AddressBookTab.jar there
3) go to /content/
4) and extract AddressBookTab.js, leave the 7-zip file manager _open_
5) find line 16
var generatedName = realCard.generateName(gPrefs.getIntPref("mail.addr_book.lastnamefirst"));
6) replace it with
try {
lastnamefirst = gPrefs.getIntPref("mail.addr_book.lastnamefirst");
} catch(err) {
lastnamefirst = 0;
}
var generatedName = realCard.generateName(lastnamefirst);
7) save the AddressBookTab.js file.
8) drag and drop the modified AddressBookTab.js to the 7-zip file manager and tell 7-zip to update the archive
9) move 4 folder levels up. If 7-zip asks if it should update the archive, confirm
10) Remove AddressBookTab 1.4.2 addon and install the modified addressbooktab-1.4.2-tb.xpi in thunderbird

If you install AddressBookTab, it will screw up the contact pane in your address book. Namely, when you highlight a contact in your address book, the contact pane will not display the contact's information -- it will remain blank -- at least in TBird 14.0.
Except for this serious defect, this add-on works just fine.

Using it with 15.0a2 I get the following error message and no details of the contact
Zeitstempel: 12.07.2012 08:31:57
Fehler: NS_ERROR_XPC_JAVASCRIPT_ERROR_WITH_DETAILS: '[JavaScript Error: "gPrefs is not defined" {file: "chrome://addressbooktab/content/AddressBookTab.js" line: 16}]' when calling method: [nsIAbViewListener::onSelectionChanged]
Quelldatei: chrome://messenger/content/addressbook/addressbook.xul
Zeile: 1
Hope that will help.

Great addon, but It would be nice to replace the default address book button.

Great add on, but "Addressbook" is not a word..... just annoying on the button is all.
How about 'AddressBook' like the add on title ?

...only thing I'd like to see is remember last chosen address book and perhaps selected contact after restart.

A nice add-on, thank you!
The tabs don't show the name of the respective address book (just Adressbuch (German)) although the setting is checked. Would be nice if that worked.

Genau die Erweiterung, die ich gesucht hatte. Das separate Fenster des Adressbuches war nervig. Nun kann ich jeweils die Mails, den Kalender und das Adressbuch in je einem Tab geöffnet halten und hin- und her schalten.
Vielen Dank

JUST GREAT, Nothing else to say.

An excellent little add-on that makes the address book behave as one would expect of a tabbed Thunderbird (this should be the default behaviour).
It would be even better if it used the default address book icon and/or placed the button in the mode toolbar (alongside the calendar and tasks buttons added by lightning).
One note. I have identified a minor incompatibility (more of a quirk really) between this add-on and the hide menubar add-on. Hovering over the main window menubar brings up a menubar for both the main window and the address book tab (it looks a little odd, although it could be useful).

I've never understood why Thunderbird implemented tabs and then didn't use them for the Address Book or to Compose new messages -- which is why I've always been a fan of this extension. And now, with the update to 1.4.2 (click on "View all versions" until it clears AMO), I've finally got it back after a lengthy absence during the Shredder beta. Well done. Thank you!

somebody else having enlarged font-size within the addressbook tab? the regular addressbook popout is fine.
Other than that, nice extension!
