Wish they would fix the scroll bars to work up & down and side to side.
It works in TB 3. if you go in and change the max ver to 3.0.*
Great little addon.

Nice.
Works even in TB3 if you disable the compatibility check.
You can combine this addon with the downloadable animated skype emoticons (https://developer.skype.com/Download/SkypeEmoticons) :-)
The link given by Ralphbusdriver provides a newer version (http://supersilly.com/~greg/storage/smilie_inserter-0.7.0-tb.xpi)

When you compase a message, you'll see a new smilie-button. Just click it, click "change" to set the image directory and you're all set

I downloaded (the updated version), installed and restarted. But I can't find any options for inserting the smiles. I have emoticon installed in a directory.
Any suggestions?

The green Download Now button will download an old version that DOES NOT WORK on current versions of Thunderbird. Another poster (Jogar the Barbarian) gives another website where an updated version can be downloaded: http://supersilly.com/~greg/storage/smilie_inserter-0.7.0-tb.xpi

Operates fine in TB 2.0.0.17 with only one difficulty: Not only does it insert a smilie button in the Formatting Toolbar, it also adds the verbiage next to it "Insert Smilie". This is quite long and when the contacts sidebar is open it necessitates adding a scroll bar via userchrom.css in order to view the normal TB smilie icon.
"Insert Smilie" is included in the .jar as a button label, however I have been unsuccessful removing it without destroying the button entirely.
Any ideas as to how to correct this would be appreciated.
(Inadvertantly left this review in SeaMonkey as well.)

This really adds a lot more available smilies, but if your default folder contains too many smilie .gifs, the scrolling bar doesn't work. Otherwise, it's nice to have more smilies than Thunderbird makes available by default. Also, it needs to be updated so that it's compatible with TB2. When I used Mr. Tech Local Install to override the version compatibility, Smilie Inserter seems to work just fine with TB2.
