Has started syncing only one way, from server to client. Any addresses that were added to the Google address book using TB are deleted upon syncing. I've looked for any controls over sync behavior and can't find them in the add-on.

Thanks for Your review!

That is the indended behaviour: if You do a server->client synchronization, the client data are overwritten (i.e.: the local data becomes a copy of the server data).

Thanks,
MZ

This is what is happening since yesterday, 9 Jan 2024:
Authorisation Error
Error 400: invalid_request

You can't sign in to this app because it doesn't comply with Google's OAuth 2.0 policy for keeping apps secure.

You can let the app developer know that this app doesn't comply with one or more Google validation rules.

However this isn't the proper place for tickets. Please report to https://github.com/zanonmark/Google-4-TbSync.

Sorry, it works again, I had to deactivate my TbSync account then activate it again

I'm using Google-4-TbSync since a while and it just works.

On another thunderbird instance I managed to sync google contacts with thunderbird adressbook without any add-on and it seems to work, too. Here is the tutorial video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vny1K_aUzCE&t=60s

I assume that it is possible with newer thunderbird versions and wasn't possible at the time Google-4-TbSync was initially developed.

Does the use of Google 4-TbSync have advantages over this? If not, my tendency would be to do without the add-on.

Thanks to the developers for the commitment and a response!

Thanks for Your review!

Yes, Google-4-TbSync also synchronizes groups, which seems to be impossible with CardDAV due to Google not properly supporting this protocol: https://github.com/zanonmark/Google-4-TbSync/wiki/Why-another-Google-synchronization-add-on

Come devo procedere? grazie mille

Thanks for Your review.

From the add-on page:
"
3) You also need some specific credentials by Google to use this add-on. Please refer to "How to generate your own Google API Console project credentials" [https://github.com/zanonmark/Google-4-TbSync/wiki/How-to-generate-your-own-Google-API-Console-project-credentials] for a step-by-step guide on how to generate them.
(And if this seems complicated, please blame Google, not me, as I'm forbidden from providing already built-in credentials...)

Please add support for TB115.
In the installation package, I edited the file manifest.json strict_max_version 115. Contacts from Google are imported into TB.

Thanks for Your review, and for Your hint.
I was waiting for TbSync to be upgraded, and now that it's out I'm upgrading Google-4-TbSync too, which will be released in this weekend.

Thanks for Your review.

However CardDAV and Google's People API are two different beasts, the latter being more complete.
See FAQ for details.

And, as I said, configuring the credentials is quite hard but Google is the one to blame for this...

I'm getting this message when using TBsync:

Error 403: access_denied
The developer hasn’t given you access to this app. It’s currently being tested and it hasn’t been verified by Google. If you think you should have access, contact the developer.

My apologies, I've upped the review rating, assuming that it works well. I have not configured it correctly. So I'll try again.

I found my problem. I had forgotten to save the page after configuring the Test user, so it was missing. It is all working well now.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.5.2).

Thanks for Your review.

However, this is most certainly due to a misconfiguration on Your Google Cloud platform app: the "developer", here, is You who did not authorize Yourself.
Please follow the HOWTO again and grant Yourself the proper permissions.

This is NOT an issue on Google-4-TbSync side, and as such I don't think the low rating is deserved...

I'm glad everything works well!

It took a while for me to finally get around to the task but it was worth it.
I was using eudora forever and finally had to relent and go to thunderbird. I really did not want to have to resort to Outlook.

Works great so far.

Thanks.

Great add-on for synchronizing Google contacts in TB. With the provided detailed instructions set-up can be done easily, all worked at the first go. Also very fast. Running version 0.5.1 on TB 102.6.1. Thanks for the support!

Thanks for the addon. Works well with Thunderbird 91 and 102. Setting up the Google API was relatively straightforward, but it appears after it went public there is no way to edit it. I enabled full access before seeing the warning about setting read only, but I am only syncing calendars and so far no issues.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.5.1).

Thanks for Your review.

To change any option, just disable the account, change the option, then re-enable the account.

However, Google-4-TbSync only synchronizes contacts, no calendars.

After a bit of hassle to create the appropriate credentials, Google not wanting to collaborate, it worked fine although quite slow with over 1700 contacts.
Well done.

Yes, 0.4.x is somewhat slower than 0.3.x, but I'm working on a revisited engine for 0.5.x to speed things up.

Thank you for making this possible for TB 102 and the very good documentation! Without that documentation I would never be able to create my API. In my case it didn't work for the first time as google seemed to forgot my test user. After that with a couple of retries to connect it worked at the end.
Thank you for that!
