This Add-on is dead. Use MinTrayR ( http://tn123.ath.cx/mintrayr/ ) as replacement.

Hi, MinimizeToTray works great for me but it has a huge inconvenient that forced me search for an alternative: it does not save the settings and every time I restart the computer I have to enter preferences to be able to minimize Thunderbird to tray.
By the way, I am using Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.22.
Any answer would be highly appreciated.

It doesn't seem to work on Thunderbird 3.0b2... Too bad, because this is a really useful extension. Instead I get this error on startup:
Cannot find binary component

You have to open the xpi with e.g. 7zip, WinRar, Winzip etc. and edit the install.rdf.
Write:
3.*
where you find something like 2.*
Save the changes and zip it again to the xpi.
Now you can install it.
You also can use Mr. Tech Toolkit to disable the compatibility-check, but this is unclean.

Awesome little utility, though I'm not sure why Thunderbird doesn't offer this option already. Works great with 2.x. Thanks Mook and Brad!

I think you need to make a MinimizeToTray version compatible with the new Firefox 3.0 it would be very much appreciated.

Ein kleines aber effektives Addon - schafft Platz und ist besonders praktisch, wenn man Thunderbird im Hintergrund laufen lässt, damit er alle paar Minuten Mails abliest.

Absolutely FANTASTIC ! I love this feature. Great for de-cluttering my task bar. Highly recommended!

Minimizes to tray when i push the x on the top right or alt f4 - great, this is exactly what I wanted.
However, I feel it would be more useful if it also minimized when using the ctrl w hotkey to close thunderbird.

It would be nice to have an option to have TB always in tray, even if the window is open.

Excellent!
To "liberate" the extension for versions 3 and above, add the extension. "Rar" to the extension and edit the file "install.rdf" changing the line: "3.0.10.*"
for the version you need, in my case, "3,0,10".
