The Installation Instructions are not correct for Thunderbird v 3.1.5 on MAC OS. You have to download the file then go into Thunderbird/Preferences/General/Manage Add-ons Then click on "install" button and select the file.

Have downloaded the British Dictionary but the spellchecker still accepts "meter" and doesn't like "grotty" and accepts program when the UK is programme and it accepts inquiry when the UK spelling is enquiry. So basically it seems to accept US spelling and UK spelling so if you are using it to correct your spelling then it's not really much cop but for me, it's useful to not have UK spellings underlined.

After a frustrating 4 failed attempts, I've got it to work.
1. Right click on the "Add To Firefox" button
2. Choose "Open link in new window". If necessary, give permission to open. A software installation dialogue box appears.
3. Click "Install now"
4. Restart Firefox
5. Go to "Tools - Options - General" to ensure that Spellcheck is ticked
6. Go to some multiline message input box on a Firefox tab . Right click. Confirm that "Check Spelling" is ticked. Choose "Languages - English - United Kingdom".

And it now works. At least on my laptop it does.

Works perfectly on Firefox 3.6.10. Although the only flaws are very few missing words... Other than that, its perfect. A little update would do though... ;)

It would be great if it actually worked ... (using firefox 3.6.10)
After installing, every time I start firefox it tells me to restart firefox for the add-on to work (no updates to be installed! just restart). Occasionally (rarely) if I actually restart firefox from the add-ons window it actually starts working - more often than not it just tells me to restart firefox again.
Basically the add-on is not functional in any meaningful way, so I don't know how good (or otherwise) the dictionary itself is.

I installed the Aussie dictionary - closer to UK English than the US dictionary, will have to do for now.

Not much use if the XPI doesn't install!

It's very frustrating, I've installed this language pack, but can't get it to operate. Can I suggest you put a simple instruction of how to configure it so it works once it is installed. This may be obvious for many users and systems, but not for me. I am running Firefox 3.6.10 on a Mac with Snow Leopard.

Unable to use, hence the low rating (sorry).

"Missing frequently used words" - this is a British English dictionary; "alright" and "instill" are both American spellings (c.f. "all right" and "instil"). I don't think it's fair to penalise this dictionary for missing American English words.

I've installed it, but the built in spell checker still insists on using American English. If there is a way of changing this setting, Firefox have not made it obvious or easy to find. Anyway, common sense tells you that now I've downloaded this plugin it should be the default dictionary!

Used to be a very good correcteur d'orthographe with FF versions prior to 3.6.8.
But now it's kind of pain the a... neck : dictionary must reinstalled after each reboot !
And worse : apparently FF3.6.8 does konw of that incompatibility thing. FF tells users !
I maintain my 2 stars.

Il semble que cette version ne soit pas compatible avec Thunderbird 3.1.

Pour Firefox, j'ai téléchargé ce matin une mise à jour de compatibilité pour la version 3.6.8.

Mais je ne trouve rien pour Thunderbird.

I am using Thunderbird portable. I just upgraded to TB 3.1 but then found that this British English dictionary is not compatible with it. Can you say please if the dictionary is being upgraded.

I don't know if I'm missing a step or if it's a compatibility issue but I can't get this or the Canadian English dictionary to work (Firefox 3.6.4). If anyone has any helpful suggestions I'd appreciate it.
