First of all, thanks for this nice add on.
I'm having a problem though with the time zone: The date is always displayed based on the sender time zone (apparently), even with %datelocal%.
There should be some means to display the date based on my (recipient) TZ.

The forwarding bug—where sometimes an extra (br) is inserted between the headers and the text of the forwarded message—does not happen with Outlook and it does not happen with the standard Thunderbook forwarding header table.
It happens with SmartTemplate when forwarding mail that was originally sent by Thunderbird, Apple Mail and, at times, GMail (among others).
As far as I can see, it is caused when the original HTML text does not start with a (div).
Your efforts to resolve this are certainly appreciated, gaby_hy, and I'm sure that you'll find a solution! Whatever small bugs remain (that's the nature of software), you're doing a great job.
In the meantime, thanks for version 0.5.4.

Thanks for this new version and for you work.
I still have problems when in the email header there are pattern like the following: "Name1, Surname1" ,"Name2, Surname2" .
These are the typical email addresses coming from Microsoft Outlook 2003 or later versions. In this case I have an output such as: "Name1, Surname1, "Name2, Surname2 (if I chose %toname%, %fromname% and %ccname%).
Thanks again for yout very good work.

better put (Font) at the beginning or you get not the reply font you want.
Solves the "reply-header" font setting problem.

Thanks for version 0.5.2. It gets better every time!
In the meantime, however, I have noticed an odd bug in forwarding (replies aren't affected).
Sometimes an extra (br) is inserted between the headers and the text of the forwarded message.
This seems to happen with all messages originally sent via Thunderbird or Apple Mail, as well as some -- not all -- messages originally sent via GMail. It doesn't affect messages sent by Outlook or Outlook Express.
As far as I can tell, the extra line-break is added when the text of the original message doesn't start with a (div).
Can you reproduce this?
When we forward an e-mail sent by Outlook, extra (br) is inserted by Thunderbird.
Probably, this occurs when original message is multipart message.
You will find extra (br) without SmartTemplate add-on.
I want to fix this problem but I have no good idea.
Give me time a little more.
Best Regards.

Great signature. Who like to see an option to insert an image before or after the (HTML) signature.
The idea is, if I contact somebody I would like to add a (promotional) image, but at replies/forwards that picture is not relevant or another picture will be added.
Optionally, adding a random image by defining the image folder.

Would be great if I can add full day and month like "Wednesday" and "April".
Like Quicktext extension!

Great extension.
Would be great (as requested by others) to have date/day in full: "april" / "Wednesday".
Possible in Quicktext extension!

The is a great add-on. Exactly what I was looking for. It should be a default part of Thunderbird.
The %....% for any header is especially useful. Just one question: would it be possible to strip the quotation marks from these headers as well? Thanks

This is what I was looking for!
Easy to use and very customizable.
Thank you for very useful add-on!

Some mail programs (usually webmail) put some pretty useless information after the timezone information.
For example, today I received an e-mail from a friend with the following date header:
Tue, 26 Jan 2010 12:37:09 +0100 (Paris, Madrid)
Would it be possible to strip this useless information, so the header looks like this:
Tue, 26 Jan 2010 12:37:09 +0100
Sorry to make additional requests, but this is such a good add-on that it's difficult to resist the temptation to make it perfect!
It is possible, but I hope that %date% is converted with original message's date string.
I'm sorry.
Best Regard.

All previous issues fixed. It's now working great again. Your quick reaction time is really appreciated!
Just one minor point: the %....% option is indeed useful, but quotation marks are not stripped from these headers (e.g., %Reply-to%). I imagine that it will not be a big problem to fix for the next release.
In the meantime, thanks gaby_hy.

When using signature above quote, the SmartTemplate text is placed above the quote.
And the first line(s) of signature gets deleted instead of the original reply header.
So we need some better way to find where original header is instead of
.editor.rootElement.firstChild or
.editor.beginningOfDocument()
I hope this issue will get fixed in next version. I am more than happy to give a hand too.

Apologies for the previous review, which was pretty incomprehensible since AMO removed all of my HTML tags. Here it is again, with parentheses used for HTML.
My SmartTemplate configuration looks like this:
(br)
(br)
(hr noshade="noshade" color="#C0C0C0" size="2" width="100%")
(div style="margin-top: 0.85em; margin-bottom: 0.85em;")
(font size="2" face="Tahoma")
(a style="text-decoration: none;")
(b)From: (/b)%from%(br)
(b)To: (/b)%to%{(br)
(b)CC: (/b) %cc%}(br)
(b)Sent: (/b)%datelocal% %date_tz%(br)
(b)Subject: (/b)%subject%
(/a)(/font)(/div)
With version 0.4.7, this worked without any problem. However, it's stopped working in version 0.5.0, since SmartTemplate now converts my headers into the following HTML:
(span id="IDstID")(br)(br)(hr color="#c0c0c0" noshade="noshade" size="2" width="100fromtodatelocaldate_tzsubject%</a")(/span)
This obviously produces completely blank headers. It seems that the culprit is the (hr); if I take that out, it works again.
I'm wondering what the code change was that created this problem. For the moment I'm going back to version 0.4.7, hoping that this bug can be fixed.
Seeing how responsive the developer is to our comments, I'm sure that we won't have to wait long!
I'm sorry.
I did not consider a template including the '%'.
This bug was fixed at version 0.5.1.

This one should be looked at by the persons involved asap to get rid of that 'experimental' label! It works like a charm. I had checked all options in the Config Editor but as far as my knowledge goes, inclusion of some original header information of the message replied to, cannot be taken care of by editing values of some parameters. With this SmartTemplate add-on, it is simple and perfect: thank you.

This Add-on does not change normal config of the TB as you say.
Because, I think that it should be back to original, if we uninstall the add-on.
I will nominate this add-on for become public with next version.

Hi,
It is great extension but one thing!!!
When installed one cannot forward messages as an attachment :((((
Too bad :((((
I did not examine "forward messages as an attachment".
I will fix this bug at next version.
Best Regards.

Been looking for something for work that will make my e-mail replies look like Outlook (audit-trail stuff). This ticks (almost) all the boxes. The only thing that's missing is the ability to remove the vertical quote-bars (or the '> ' at the beginning of each line in text-mode) - not a big problem for me.

When an add-on is so good that I can''t think of how it could be made better, then it's pretty near perfect. SmartTemplate does exactly what it says it does, and it does it extremely well. In addition, the developer not only listens and replies to user suggestions, but quickly incorporates those he can into the add-on. Thanks, gaby_hy.

An excellent add-on which adds features that are essential but missing from TB. Every other email client had them in 1995...
One request: Add a new reserved word %firstname%. Most of my email is between my friends and me, and when replying I prefer to just use their first name (given name):

I'm sorry. I can not support %firstname%, because there are no ways to specify the first name correctly and in some languages, the name might be written as "family-name first-name".
Furthermore, it is too difficult for me to cooperate with an address book.
Best Regards.
