Been a huge fan of TB for many years, but as many have posted here, I started having lots of issues and freezing since last year due to Google Calendar Provider addon. Tried many things for several months, resisting the idea to abandon TB. Was just about to give up to Outshitlook until I did what "giftpilzchen" posted a couple posts down on the post titled "Rendered TB Slow, Uninstalled on August 4, 2015" and reinstalled all the calendars manually. Works like new, seconds to start...

Used to be a big Thunderbird user. Now coming back and hoping things work the same. Unfortunately not. Provider works partially by syncing a few calendars in Google, but not my primary calendar. tried everything I could think of and did a search to find solutions but no luck. and don't have any more time to play with it. so, although definitely worth supporting this developer (if it worked), I'm moving on to find a tool that works easily. oh the joys of software..

This was a great add-on until September 2014. Since then, I constantly had synchronization problems. No tweak, update, or reinstall helped to solve the problems. It took ~5 minutes to start up Thunderbird because all the reminders would pop up, remove themselves, disappear, pop up again etc. On Windows, I wasn't even able to import the calendars anymore because one window in the import dialog remained blank. Needless to say that all three software components were up-to-date versions.
I am really sorry for the developer but I had to uninstall the add-on completely. My solution to the problem is now to install the caldav calendars myself manually:
Create new calendar on network -> Caldav
Use this address and replace "your-email-address" by google email address for main calendar and by the calendar ID (under settings in brackets) for any other calendar.

Type in PWs and follow 2-point authentification. Done!
Takes a bit of legwork, but ended all my problems, and TB starts up in a few seconds now.
P.S.: I had to put calendar.icaljs=false in the config editor to make caldav work.

This add-on seems like a good start but it has some serious issues with large calendars.
When downloading calendars, thunderbird becomes very slow (almost freezes to unusable degree).
This is maybe mostly lightning bug, but it starts showing numerous missed reminders from previous days (I wonder why is this the default), I close the window but it appears again and again in the foreground no matter what other program I'm looking at. And clicking on dismiss the missed events does not help.
When calendars are too large they may never be downloaded. In status bar I see "downloading ... from xxx". For example one calendar with 1000 events, it could only go to around 960 and then stop and try again. Perhaps there are some resource limits imposed by google. In any case why start downloading the whole thing from the beginning? If it could recover and download only events that failed to be downloaded, then that would be much easier done. Or maybe limit retrieval to say 50 at a time to avoid hitting connection limits.
In any case, removing the big calendar which fortunately is not so important to me + disabling missed events notifications in lightning settings, made the thing work for the time being. So giving 3 start. I hope developer will improve reliability and performance and this add-on will be worth a lot of stars.

I installed this program expecting it to lock up my firefox like it does on my other computers, and I wasn't disappointed. I have several google calendars with years of reoccurring appointments, some of them shared with others, and as soon as the add-on synchronizes with my google account, firefox starts to lag. The next time I start firefox, within about 5 seconds, the entire program locks up and gets into a wonderful and gratifying loop of asking for my password and telling me that there is an unresponsive script. This happens on both windows and linux, so when I decided to move to another computer, I said to my self, "Self, you should install that google calendar sync add-on into this computer so you don't have to look at your calendar or read any email!". Great job guys, keep up the good work! I wanted to use my phone for the calendar app in the first place, who needs a desktop anyway?

Ich bemerke immer wieder, das es Probleme mit Serienterminen gibt. Wenn ich einen Termin aus der Serie lösche oder verändere, wird er nicht aktualisiert.

Not working "No writable calendars found, check properties". Provider (Gdata) and Lightning installed (cleaned up and re-install didn't help).
Although I can write bidirectional calendar events to calendar manually BUT cannot accept via email invitation.
Unable to solve and only workaround is to save calendar event in email invitation (ICS) to desktop and use import to add to calendar.

I can use this extension only for my personal calendar with a limited amount of recurring events. The work calendar uses Google Apps and contains a huge amount of events, mostly are recurring ones (daily standups and weekly reviews, plus the ad-hoc meetings... every day is filled). This extension unfortunately doesn't scale very well and occasionally I get unresponsive script alerts that freeze Thunderbird, preventing me to use email and calendar productively.
Sadly, there isn't anything better on Linux at the moment.

Die App ist spitze und ich möchte sie gerne weiter benutzen und empfehle sie prinzipiell auch weiter.
Allerdings hätte ich eine dringende Bitte zur Weiterentwicklung. Vermutlich, weil ich mehrere Kalender mit mehreren Leuten gemeinsam nutze und eine sehr hohe Anzahl an Einträgen habe, kommt es immer wieder zu massiven Verzögerungen beim Synchronisieren.
Leider steht dann nicht nur der Kalender sondern der gesamte Thunderbird still. Das ist sehr lästig und daher bitte ich darum, lieber Philipp Kewisch, ob das behebbar wäre?
Danach würde ich die App uneingeschränkt empfehlen und zahle auch gerne 10 Dollar dafür.

This add-on solved a major problem I was having with being able to edit my Google Calendar (add events, dismiss reminders, etc.) using Lightning v. 4.0.0.1 on Thunderbird v. 38.0.1. Installed this add-on and, BINGO, I now have two way communication with my Google Calendar. Awesome!

This addon is not usable for corporate environments. If you have many calendars and something about 1000 entries in it the addon will freeze your thundebird.

Like some people here, I had problems with this plugin since some weeks. After some test, I realized that the "birthday" calendar was the probleme. I desactivated it but it would be great to solve this probleme.

Works great with my calendar with few events in it right now.
But....
If I load a calendar that has a lot to synchronize. The status bar quickly synchronizes saying "synchronizing nnn out of 1000", When it gets near 900, it just starts over (maybe because it is doing another 1000). Eventually sometimes everything freezes up and later a panel comes up asking me if I want to continue a script that is taking a long time. No matter the answer, the interface becomes frozen.

This add-on is a Godsend. Integrates with the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird and provides Google calendar access.
There were initial problems with freezing but it was the Birthdays Calendar add-on that was found to be the culprit. I have since unsubscribed from this Birthdays calendar and everything is working great. Thank you...
Can you try unsubscribing for the Birthdays Calendar? This calendar is known to cause trouble for some reason.

If you are using the Lightning addon for Thunderbird, this addon is a must. A great way to ensure that you can access your calendar no matter where you are, but still have full control with Thunderbird.

This met my need to include subscribed (third party) calendars that were attached to my Google account. This included other users calendars and Podio.
Previously, I had been using CALDAV, but it does not give this level of granularity.

Google changed their authentication regime. If it keeps asking for a password you need to go right-click on your calendar in the left-hand pane, delete it, and then set up again. Like so:
(1) First off, if you already have a Google Calendar set up in Thunderbird, delete it. Right-click on the calendar and select delete.
(2) Right-click on the empty space below "Calendar" in the left-hand pane.
(3) Select "New Calendar" and left-click that.
(4) Click "On the Network"
(5) Click "Next"
(6) Click "Google Calendar"
(7) Click "Next"
(8) If you already have your gmail account set up in Thunderbird as an email account, then select that gmail account from the leist you see here and click next. Otherwise, enter your full gmail account (including the part after the @ symbol).
(9) Click "Next"
(10) Google will ask for your password. Those of you without 2-step verification set up will want to read this: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

(11) Select the calendars you have made and/or subscribe to in your Google Calendar account.
(12) Click "Next"
(13) Click "OK"

I've been using this very good plugin for years but since a few days it keeps asking for my gmail password. :(

since 1.04 I keep getting sync problems with Google Calendars - every appointment forces a dialog.
Down-graded to 1.03 which improves slightly but it's still there but not quite has annoying - still can't dismiss appointments and have to close dialog to get rid of it.
Are you working on trying to fix this problem or is this something local to my setup?
