difficulty: I have two extensions that are essential for me, both use the sidebar and are not very compatible with each other.
solution: have them on separate profiles, with the profileSwitcher extension.
If you extend, customize or config Firefox heavily... this extension is a must. You can have multiple profiles that act as specialized Firefox browsers, without them being one browser, bloated with too many add-ons.
ProfileSwitcher lets you switch profiles at anytime, select which profile you want at start up, delete profiles or add new ones at anytime.
cons: all profiles still share the same plugins. You can have them turned on or off separately per profile
I have used it on Ubuntu Linux and windows, Firefox 12, 13 Beta, and 13. and I have no problems... works perfectly.

I must agree with others. It's quite simple add-on, but very useful and surprisingly stable. I use it from Nightly 12 or 11 and only once there was a problem: it stuck for one profile, reset settings each time I opened Nightly. But it was fixed very quickly. From then no more problems.
I think it's a real shame that Firefox doesn't have such feature by default.

Does a good job but when switching to a different profile and closing down and restarting, it reverts back to the previous profile vs the default one that was chosen.

Perfect for people who -like me- need to use multiple profiles to keep their private stuff seperate from their work. It works like a charm.
The only impovement I would like to see is an option to be able to show just the profiles when I click on the add-on bar 'icon'. So I do not have to open up a sub-menu (like how it works in Chrome).

howdy y'all,
been using this extension for years and it works very, very well. extremely handy to be able to start up profile manager from in the app OR to run two profiles at the same time OR to simply switch to another profile.
