Thank goodness, finally some sanity. I'm so tired of the Firefox team repeatedly removing the exact features that make FF desirable over Chrome.

Just thank you.

Absolutely invaluable addon if you want to re-enable useful features that have been removed from FF.
THANK YOU!
I couldn't believe Mozilla got rid of BrowseByName support. Them killing the AwesomeBar was annoying me to no end.
Only negative - this addon adds search engines that you don't need to your search engine list. (But they are trivial to remove.)
Just another addon to add to my pile of 40. (Which correct things that Mozilla has broken/removed over the years.)

Not sure what made Mozilla decide to remove the keyword/browse by name feature that made the original Awesome Bar so 'awesome.' It seems like they've been slowly making it harder and harder to use with their various updates over the years, having to go to about:config and type in some random value to keyword.URL to get it to work. Now with Firefox 23, even THAT doesn't work. Thanks to this plugin, the old behavior is restored and it's as simple as a few clicks. Other users please note that in order to use Google's "browse by name" feature, you'll need to go into the plugin's options page where there's a few drop-down menus that can give you the behavior you're looking for. Thank you Mike!!

I'm so glad this extension was available.
@Phoebo: You didn't do anything wrong -- Firefox made this change in v.23 **on purpose**.

I was really happy when I found this add on after updating to FF23 (Win8). I worked perfect. Just as I hoped. But since 2 days FF23 behaves as if I don't have this add on installed. I have no idea why: I didn't change anything, I didn't install other add ons, I didn't change any FF-settings. But all of a sudden searches in the URL bar get redirected to the search engine selected in the search bar although I have selected Google in the add on. I tried uninstalling the add on and reinstalling it, but it didn't change anything. So I'm totally clueless what happened.
Edit: 08-17-2013: The problem I mention above is the result of a conflict with the add on "TabMixPlus" set to open a new tab for every entry in the URL bar. If this is turned off (for addresses and searches) keyword search works like a charm! Thanks a lot to Mike!
I'd love to figure out what's going on here. Can you contact me via email to try to debug - mozilla@kaply.com

I can't select google for the about:homepage search, selecting it will makes FF use default search engine, while bing or yahoo is working fine. Everything other than that worked well.
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (1.0.5.1-signed) del componente aggiuntivo. Questo utente ha inserito una recensione precedente su questo componente aggiuntivo. That was by design since the page defaults to Google, but you're right. I should have allowed selecting Google because then it won't change with a different search engine. I'll fix.

Ok, I initialy posted that this didn't work, but I realized that it was because I had disabled the "ubuntu-firefox modifications 2.7". After enabling it, now its working fine, yay!
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (1.0.5.1-signed) del componente aggiuntivo. That's odd. Can you contact me directly please and I'll try to debug? mozilla@kaply.com

I'm so glad that Firefox has the extension mechanism to compensate for arbitrary random changes in the codebase. This extension is absolutely essential and prevented me from smashing my keyboard several times. Many thanks to the author!

Doesn't work with russian search engines (FF23 Portable Russian).
Can't use "Яндекс".
I'm trying to recreate this bug I can't. Which Russian search engine are you using? I tried Yandex, and when I paste Яндекс into the URL bar for a search, it redirects properly. Can you give me the resulting URL from the search?
This is fixed in 1.0.4.

This extension is an important sanity-saver. I use the search box for bugzilla and the URL bar for Google searches. While bugzilla's search functionality is good, it's no Google. Thank you!

This works exactly as it was intended to. Thanks for adding this function back to FF23. However, the reason I used it has not been solved. Instead of going to the google I want, it still redirects to local google.

Thank you for adding back one of the functions that made me move over to Firefox to start with. I'm glad someone was on top of things and so quickly resolved the bug (yeah, I know it's intended behavior, but it's a bug as far as I'm concerned) that was introduced with Firefox 23.

Thank you! I was very confused and I need the former behaviour of the location bar.

Thank you so much for this add-on! It's quickly configured and does exactly what it's supposed to, more or less doubling my search performance (or rather, undoing the reduction it experienced at the hands of Firefox 23).
It's getting kind of ridiculous that for almost every major new Firefox release, I have to dig for some configuration key to undo the latest illogical change in behaviour, or find an add-on that restores a comfortable feature that has been removed. But thankfully, there are people like you who do all the hard work for the benefit of all of us. Much respect!

Great idea. Great addon.
The developer of this addon is someone who knows what FireFox users really want to have in their browser.
The developers of FF are just dumb scumbags who only think about how to make internet browsing more accessible for their grandmas. Like there aren't enough browsers targeting that audience.
Could please you make this compatible with FF Mobile (Fennec)? Keyword.URL worked in that edition of FF as well, till version 23.
Thanks a lot.
I'm just curious what you use keyword.URL for? I'm trying to decide if I want to add explicit functionality for keyword.URL, or if there is just some thing that everyone does with keyword.URL

Works exactly as expected. The only improvement I can see would be a way to use an encrypted Google search.

I can't believe that Mozilla have broken searching from the address bar, especially since they have an ongoing contract with Google.
Anyway, same comments as other users above. Installing this fixes the broken searching from the address bar.
Minor snagging - having upgraded to Firefox 23 and installed the Keyword Search add-on, I have now got DuckDuckGo set up as one of my search engines. Don't know if inclusion of DuckDuckGo was part of the Firefox 23 build, but if not then it should be flagged up when the add-on installs.
I do bundle DuckDuckGo with this add-on. You can delete it if you don't want it. I'll make that clearer in the description.

I perform tons of searches via keyword or the search-box. Not having two seperate engines up there was not acceptable for even one day. That's even beyond messed up.
I have no clue what Mozilla devs were thinking. Are they even using their own browser on a daily basis?
However, this little Addon just changes it back to the way it was, so just grab this one and forget the troublesome new "feature"!
