Very usefull add-on! I had problem with outlook 2003 message, so i edit tnef.js in lookout.jar at line 1312 and save all .rtf in .html format. So I can read the attachment, not perfect but good.
case "application/rtf": file.name += ".html"; break;
Bye bye.

It works, but it doesn't open automatically calendar .ics info when there are more than one contents in winmail.dat, even if the "Open calendaring data directly" option is checked.
I often receive Outlook mails with appointment (.ics) + rtf description: Lookout doesn't prompt to add to calendar the event.
The only (annoying) workaround is to save the .ics file and import it manually.

Tried 1.2.5 out with TB3b2, now I'm on TB3b3 where the compatibility check fails and I didn't find the download of version 1.2.6.

LookOut worked well with previous TB versions (German Linux version here), but with the actual TB 2.0.0.19 the winmail.dat files are not splitted any more (no decoding).
I tried the newer experimental LookOut versions, but they didn't work either. May I ask for a fix?
Please select an email that is not decoding. Go to File->Save As->File. Please zip the \"eml\" file and send to the LookOut mailing list. Thank you.

Yes, a good add-on.
but if there are Chinese characters in file name, can't show and can't open.
Please select an email that is not decoding. Go to File->Save As->File. Please zip the "eml" file and send to the LookOut mailing list. Thank you.

I have tested it on Thunderbird 2.0.0.18/German/Windows and it works except for a few problems:
1) As mentioned earlier hier the settings dialog isn't working (V1.2.3, just a blue title bar with the [X] Button). No messages on the error console.
2) When i select a mail with a winmail.dat sometimes the included files will not be listed in the attachments area even if they did before. If i restart Thunderbird then the included files in a winmail.dat are listed again. I was not able to figure out when and why the addon stop working but a restart always fixed that. Also no error messages on the error console.
I'm missing an option to add the included files in a winmail.dat when printing the mail.
Besides that: 4 out of 5 Stars.

This extension is awesome! I love it! Lots of people use Outlook (many clients do), and was a pain when they send me attachments. I used to have to tell them to upload it somewhere (until I found there is software for this).
But LookOut changes everything. Seriously, you cannot live without this one. LookOut is a lifesaver.

Hi!
I've installed the lookout 1.2.3 add-on and I'm not able to open an Excel File attachment sent from Outllook.
I get the following error from console:
Error: dialog has no properties
Archivo de origen: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/unknownContentType.xul
Línea: 1
I wonder if I need install or configure another element in my Thunderbird.
Thanks in advance.

I installed it in 2.0.0.17
It would not open a winmail.dat file with IPM.Microsoft Mail.Note in the header.
Yes in the error console appears three times:
dialog has no properties
chrom://mozapps/content/downloads/unknownContentType.xul
Were there any messages in the error console?

Hi, i've testetd this addon on my German installation and it doesn't work.
But with english versions there are no problems at all.
Could u please fix this issue because i prefer the german language.
I have put in support for unicode to the degree I understand it. Perhaps the mime types or some other matched string is different in German and it is not triggering? Were there any messages in the error console?

Simple, no mess, no fuss. It shows the winmail.dat attachment and the files inside winmail.dat all like normal Thunderbird file attachments with normal Thunderbird attachment behaviors.

Tbird 2.0.0.16. Installed this add-on. Went to Tools -> Add-Ons, selected this add-on, clicked the Options button. What did I get? A title bar (with no text) without a window pane under it. So if there are options, this add-on won't show them. If there are no options, why is the Options button not disabled? I configured Outlook 2002 to send in RTF format (and also had to configure the Internet option to use RTF when sending to Internet recipients to prevent converting to HTML). I used bold, italics, coloring, and font sizes in the test message. When received in Tbird (and with Lookout installed and enabled), bold and italics were there but no coloring or font size changes. The winmail.dat attachment was there (as can also be seen in source view for the "Content-Type: application/ms-tnef; name="winmail.dat" MIME part). I double-clicked on the winmail.dat attachment to open it figuring that maybe their helper requires it be opened to get at the formatting instructions inside (although obviously it should've already seen the MIME part holding the winmail.dat content). Nope, that just had me prompted for a helper app but none were shown. ALso shown as an attachment in the message view pane was an .rtf file. This file is NOT listed in the source view of the message; that is, there is no MIME part for this attachment. So I double-click on it and got prompted as to what to use to open it. Wordpad was shown (and so was Other for browsing to a program but then supposedly Outlook wouldn't be installed on a host where I needed to use this add-on). I used WordPad and could see the bold, italics, coloring, and font size changes - but then WordPad has always been able to render *some* (not all) formatting in RTF files. It is, after all, an RTF application. To check the WordPad selection was not part of Lookout's undocumented enhancement to Tbird, I uninstalled Lookout, restart Tbird, and re-selected the RTF formatted test e-mail. This time there was no .rtf virtual attachment shown in the message view pane, so Lookout adds that. What it adds is a test that there is a winmail.dat file and then presents an .rtf attachment in addition (that isn't in the e-mail itself) that you can use to load the e-mail into WordPad. Yet their web site says they wrote a TNEF decoder. No, they did not write WordPad. If they had written a decoder then why doesn't the e-mail display *inside* of Tbird rather than have me select to open it in WordPad? Their entire usage description is "When LookOut is working, you will see the names of the TNEF encapsulated file attachments next to the winmail.dat file. The user interaction is transparent i.e. There are no special dialogs or menu items, etc." Okay, so I see the .rtf file and have to guess that is what they mean by the encapsulated file. They don't mention that you have to open the attachment to see the message in its RTF format. They talk about a decoder which should present that formatting within the message view pane inside of Tbird but instead you have to use WordPad to view the formatting. So what does their decoder do? Extract the .rtf file out of the winmail.dat file so WordPad can read it? It does work (because it shows the .rtf content as a pseudo-attachment that you can open) but it is clumsy because the user has to read it outside of Tbird (to load it into WordPad). I guess it works, sort of.
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (1.2.3) del componente aggiuntivo.I accidentally included the stub options XUL file. I will omit that for 1.2.4. Outside of that issue your observations are correct but unavoidable. Lookout is designed to look for TNEF parts and expose sub parts and data from within the TNEF block. Think of this TNEF block like a ZIP archive, you would still want the option of downloading the ZIP as a whole. I am working actively with Mozilla to have TNEF parts treated as MIME sub-parts. Otherwise I would have to hack the GUI even more to inline the RTF in addition to doing an RTF to HTML conversion. If you have an application associated with "application/rtf" mime type then that will launch when you open the RTF body alternative. Please contact me if you would like to contribute help documents to the LookOut project.

First of all I'd like to thank you for your work.
Mark Hamlen is right. LookOut seems to have a problem with imap accounts, as long you not mark them as "use offline" and fully download the message.
So there is a possibility to workarround this issue. And I personaly think that this isn't really a BUG of LookOut, yust a "how to set up a working configuration" thing.

I've came to notice that this only happens when I receive attachments whose names have non-ASCII chars like ç and º and á for instance.

I'm using imap with googlemail and Lookout only works if I synchronize for offline. Otherwise most (but strangely, not all) of the attachments are Part 1.2 (and Part 1.3 if there are more than one).
