When I tried to install from firefox 3 I couldn't see an option to bypass the version check. Having a look in the page source shows the full address as
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/8266/minimizetotray-0.0.1.2006102615+-fx+zm+sb+tb.xpi

I just used IE to download but you should be able to right click and save the above link.

Bumping up Justin's comment so people know HOW to make it work for Firefox 3:

by Justin on June 26, 2008
For this to work in FF3, you just need to modify the xpi file. Click the "Ignore version check" link and then right-click on the Add to Firefox and select Save Link As. Open the XPI file with WinZip and then open the install.rdf file with a text editor. Change line 24: "2.0.0.*". I changed 2.0.0 to 4.0.0. Then save it (you may need to refresh the file in the archive). Once you've done this you can reinstall the add-on and it works perfectly.

MinimizeToTray is compatible with Firefox 3. Only
its installation procedure says, its not. The solution
is to edit this installation file and reinstall the
addon.

To make MinimizeToTray compatible with Firefox 3,
you just have to edit the install.rdf file of
MinimizeToTray (Its name is probably a weired mix of
mix of characters and numbers).
The file is inside the extensions folder of your
Profiles folder (Have a look in your application data
folder).

1) Open install.rdf to do some text editing.

2) Go to the section

3) and change the max-version setting to

3.0.*

4) Save the changes.

Firefox 3 did not recognize the change by itself.
So you have to

5) make a backup of the whole MinimizeToTray folder

6) Uninstall MinimizeToTray (by the usual
uninstallation procedure OR just delete the folder)

7) Restart Firefox to let it confirm the uninstallation.

8) Copy the MinimizeToTray (with its modified
install.rdf) back into the extensions folder.

9) Restart Firefox.

That's all!

This is indispensable, only problem is it keeps telling me I have 1 new message when I don't. Happens in ff v2&v3.

There is no conflicts that we can detect...
One can just change the about.config, or simply use Mr. Tech install and make compatible. This truly is the simplest way to manage EXT's

Looks like this add-on is going nowhere. Instead of mucking about trying to hack the XPI file, you might has well just use BossKey, which works well.

Best of the Best! should be built in FF already.

Changing the extensions.minimizetotray.with-windows value from false to true in about:config worked for me

Очень хотелось бы чтобы пофиксили под новые версии Fire fox. Отличное расширение.

It does seem to work in Fx3, but why don't the devs release a bumped version? This makes it look like abandonware.

Simple and useful, but please update it to FF3.0

For FF3, just go to Tools, Add ons, right click on Minimize To Tray, and click on "make compatible"
