First, the bad: if you add a word like, say, AutoCAD to the dictionary, it won't accept the word "AutoCAD's", and you'll need to add that too. The number of word it has saved seems quite low (it doesn't accept the word "online" until you add it, for example), and I think the red squiggly line to highlight errors could be a bit easier on the eye.
That said, let the lack of errors in this message prove that it works. A multi-line text box is an online text-box that you write in that has more than one line. So the spell-checker doesn't work on boxes that ask for your name for example, but it does work on Youtube comments, and this box I'm typing in to write this review.
I'd say it's more useful to have than to not have. It checks spelling in emails too (works for Outlook and Google Mail at least, haven't tried others), and once you've added the words you use regularly, it's really pretty handy. It's just a bit of a pain to install fresh and add the 20 or so words you regularly use but the dictionary doesn't work, but that's just the lazy complaining.
Also works on Firefox 29.0.1, the one I'm using right now. Although it didn't just recognise the word "Firefox", so I had to add it. You'll have to do that with company names etc.

What point is a dictionary that doesn't have a large percentage of the common vocabulary.
'Movie' is not a word!!

Once installed no idea how to use it and no instructions. A waste of time.

Works great for me ... when it is supported ;)
When might it be available for Firefox 30+?
Thanks

Good to see British English back on the add-on menu, no more seeing red over the wrong color without this customisation.
The install instructions refer to a "multi-line text box". You do indeed need to find an on-page web form in which more than one text line can be entered in order to get a "Languages" menu item on the right-click context menu. Then you can set "English (United Kingdom)" as the spell-check dictionary. Once configured you spell check single and multi-line input fields/boxes in the normal way.
Here's a form with a multi-line text field to use to get the configuration done: http://www.freedback.com/examples.php

Wasn't able to get this going as I didn't understand the wording;
"To enable, right-click in a multi-line text box, select Languages", then "English / United Kingdom".
Exactly what is a multi-line text box?
Removed it immediately. Why can't these people get it that not EVERYONE can understand what they are getting at.
Better to use PLAIN English as I do in all of my instruction manual Pdf's.

Excellent. Thank you very much for this fine add-on, dear developers.
One little question, though: When I open the add-on page/tab in Thunderbird, the other Thunderbird dictionaries (like for example the German one) are being listed under the icon/section "Dictionaries".
However this British dictionary is not being listed there, but under the icon/section "Add-ons".
Is there a simply way to move the British dictionary from the latter section to the first one named "Dicitionares"?
Greetings from Germany to my British friends!

I cannot believe that there is no British English dictionary available for the latest version of Thunderbird!
For goodness' sake - we invented the language, after all! The least you could do is to keep the dictionary up-to-date.

The dictionary is excellent. I too was unable to install after following the link on the Spell checking dialog (sic) window however it installed easily after searching the add-ons screen (Tools|Add-ons)

Does the compatibility need updating? It shows as "Works with Thunderbird 2.0a1 - 15.0a1" and I'm blocked from installing this on Thunderbird 24.

Re the spell check as you type not working with version 24 of Thunderbird. I also had the same problem, but this was fixed (don't ask me why) by downloading and installing the US English version of the dictionary (but not actually using it)...
By the way everyone - it doesn't cost you anything to be polite.

Why did we have to lose the old UK English dictionary that worked so well with earlier versions of SM?
This one is totally useless in that it does not spell check as you type even though the item is ticked in Edit/Spell check as you type.

How can this dictionary (R1.19) not be compatible wtih Thunderbird 24.0 ??
How did T 24.0 get released without having a British dictionary available for it? This is pants.
The dictionary is compatible with Thunderbird 24.0 (I'm using it now). Please make sure your firewall isn't blocking access to Thunderbird.

Juxxize - you have a lot to learn, if you don't mind my saying so. Many words in US English are older than modern UK English (e.g. "gotten"). The ize ending is older than ise and was the original in UK English. I'm strongly against using US phrases and words in Britain, because I want to keep our dialect alive, not because they are wrong or ignorant. US dialects are fine and often lovely, as in Appalachia.

Just had to add the word 'movie' to the dictionary, so a little disappointed. A shame that the GB version of FF doesn't come with a dictionary already...

The current version ( 1.19.1 ) downloaded + installed, ( to find it in the context menu it needed three installations ) ! Then tried out for 60 minutes, meanwhile it showed 300 errors, and produced 2 crashes, the first one in FF, the second required a system restart !
Throw it, where it belongs to ,,,
