MR Tech Toolkit

@Patrick et al
In the Mozine topic for this extension, there is a link to a development version which is compatible with FF5 and beyond.

A lot of it is functional but the core functions such as specialised add-on display together with 'File'->'Install.., 'theme switcher', 'make compatible', per extension compatibility overrides, install date/time and similar are not yet working. Read all that Mozine topic from that post onward before attempting to try it for yourself. You will see what still functions, that Firefox provides alternatives to some of the missing features and some alternative extensions are suggested for individual missing functions. I find that the development version still provides many features I want and I only needed to install two other extensions for particular missing features. Otherwise, Firefox itself and 'All-in-One Sidebar', which I already used, fill the other, hopefully temporary, gaps. As for Mr Tech appearing to abandon, I don't think that has actually happened. The new Firefox Add-ons Manager is very different from the original and must have made it extremely difficult for him to adapt MTTK to fit it. On top of that, now that Thunderbird has more recently adopted the new manager, he has more than double work. I believe that he is still trying and we can hope to see a new, fully functional MTTK in due course. Meanwhile, read that information on Mozine and see what actions suit you best.

Have tried 1.5. Thanks very much for the really improved colour for 'enabled'. Much clearer now. However, after fresh/re- load, the coloured stripes are applied to the wrong extensions (Tools->Add-ons shows that the expected ones are really enabled, disabled, incompatible etc). I suspect that this relates to the new sorting process and perhaps you may be using the unsorted indexes somewhere instead of the sorted ones :). Also (a) on some extensions, mouseover/focus does not activate highlighting (b) I had one Firefox crash but stupidly did not have a report submitted. It might have been useful for you but I only thought of not distracting the FF team with an extension problem. I have now looked at the toolbar button use and behaviour and that seems fine. [Another idea, but lowish priority and definitely not for the addressing correction release, I would think; how about something like shift-click or mouse-drag to tick a whole band of extensions at the same time? Could help to reduce RSI :) ]

After updating from FF3.6 to FF5.0.1, one very useful extension completely stopped working for me. Using M.A.D.1.4 and some binary chopping, I was able, in a few minutes, to identify a conflicting extension whose removal fixed the problem. I normally use Mr Tech Toolkit for such tasks but, at the moment, it cannot do multiple selections in FF5. I liked the interface very well except that I really found the grey background for 'disabled' difficult to distinguish, particularly with the zebra stripes on everything. Perhaps pale green background for either enabled or disabled would be clearer - or even an extra column with red crosses and green ticks? I'm sorry that I was too pressed to notice the availability of a toolbar button (which I'm sure I would normally use) so cannot comment on its current behaviour. Since I restored the profile after diagnosis so I could do a clean fix, I don't have M.A.D installed now to check that. I'll try to make time sometime to have another look. Thanks very much for helping me get that extension back on the road so quickly.

Excellent extension; I've used it since it was first available in/after FF8However, in the en-US locale, 'Settings', would it be possible to show "Sprawdzaj pisownie" in English? :D
(Fortunately, it was easy to guess, and then find, a translation)
Custom Buttons²

Trying to follow links on the 'button database' alphabetic list on the extension website http://custombuttons2.com/en-us gave bizarre results, finally requiring me to restart my PC before I could shut down Firefox. The site appears to be dangerous and could well be infected.

I've used this super little shield for years but now, sadly
Is there anyone who is willing to adopt the extension and update it for TB 3?
The website where this author says we can find support (and, more importantly for me, more details and related information) simply comes up with the incredibly rude message "Nothing to see here.
Move along". Since I'm not a spammer or a hacker and I was seriously interested in more information, I don't see that as a good start for the extension.

Just install it and, without a murmur, the Searchbar with 'View' and 'QuickSearch' is back in the threadpane instead of hogging scarce space on the toolbar or menubar.

A Valuable and Functioning Tool for many Thunderbird Users
================================================
TB_Custom_Toolbar brings Firefox style user defined extra (custom) toolbars to Thunderbird.
Exceedingly easy and trouble free to use, it allows users to call on extra toolbar space for all the additional buttons they might want to deploy from extensions they install. Thus buttons and other widgets may be arranged at will to provide a clear and uncluttered TB window.
This could also be particularly useful as one of two solutions for those who want more space for the 'View' and 'Quicksearch' widgets which, in TB 2 were moved out of their dedicated Searchbar in the Thread Pane.
>> It appears to be an excellent product and, if released from the sandbox, could benefit many TB users.
I tested TB_Custom_Toolbar (TBCT) version 1.0 in TB 2.0.0.4 on Windows XP Pro SP2 (fully patched). Extension listing is appended.
In this instance, in testing I used both the default theme and the Outlook 2003 GreenTB 2.0 theme.
Download and Installation (by drag-and-drop on the EM window) went without trouble.
Uninstallation and re-installation was done several times without any problem in the course of testing.
Once TBCT is installed, Customize shows an 'Add New Toolbar' as is seen inFirefox.
This appears (and works) in 'Customize' for the TB Main, Message, Edit/Compose windows and (even) the Address Book window.
Use of the button to produce a new, named user defined toolbar, is exactly as in Firefox (FF).
Something must be dragged onto the new toolbar before clicking 'OK' in Customize.
Otherwise, as in FF, the toolbar is discarded.
After reloading TB, an extra entry for the new toolbar appears under View -> Toolbars
Ticking/unticking that entry toggles the toolbar visibility.
In this release, of TBCT, I only saw menu entries for custom toolbars created in the TB Main Window.
There were none for toolbars created in Message, Edit or Address Book Windows.
** Hopefully, in later versions, code can be added for those other windows.
I note that my own greatest need for extra TB toolbar space tends to occur in the main window.
Note: As in FF, custom toolbars which are hidden when TB is closed will be visible when it is restarted.
That appears to be the same as FF known error https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220701
It is not a fault in this extension.
A TBCT custom toolbar in any window may be removed by customizing, moving all objects off the toolbar and clicking 'OK' in customize.
When this is done for a toolbar in the main window, the assocoated View -> Toolbars menu entry remains until TB is reloaded.
However, ticking/unticking it before reloading appeared to have no effect, detrimental or otherwise.
After reloading, the entry has disappeared.
If a TBCT custom toolbar exists at the time TBCT is uninstalled
then it will not be removed by the unstallation or insubsequent reloads.
However, the View -> menu entry for such a toolbar in the main window will disappear so the toolbar cannot be toggled.
However, any such toolbars may still be customized, and most importantly, deleted, by the usual method.
** It is arguable that uninstalling TBCT should remove the toolbar and return its content to the customize palette.
However, given the ease with which that can be done anyway, using 'Customize', this is a minor matter.
TBCT 1.0 has enabled creation of extra toolbars and provided code to handle their menu entries for the main window.
All other management features already exist in TB and are currently, successfully, left to TB.
If, after TBCT is fully uninstalled, such a custom toolbar still exists in the main window when TBCT is re-installed
then, after reloading TB, the associated View -> Toolbars menu entry is restored.
I have briefly experimented with more than one TBCT custom toolbar present in the same TB window.
All functions appeared to work well and as described previously.
I have not observed any conflicts with the other extensions installed in that profile.

Conclusion:
=========
This is already a very powerful, useful and healthy product and should be made available in the AMO public add-ons list.
