Excellent addon! I would suggest using preview.sty + dvipng directly instead of dvips + imagemagick for greater speed. Thanks!

Excellent tool to realize what I was looking for, for quite some time. Perhaps a somewhat more detailed documentation for full use of this module with texlive would save time. It is not easy to understand immediately how works this great tool. Thank you so much, Jonathan.

Exactly what I've been looking for. Works perfectly with Thunderbird 17.0 under Ubuntu 12.04, after manually adding the "LaTeX it!" button. Now I finally can write proper emails when discussing mathematics with someone.Thank you so much, Jonathan. Keep up the great work.

On the "Write" window, "Latex it!" has not been added to my toolbar.
I use Thunderbird_7.01 + WindowsXP_64

Notes:
- On cygwin, [utf8x] is not recognized either.
- I have installed everything as requested on 32bits versions (ghostscript+imagemagic).

It requires just to many other softwares to be *separately* installed in comparison to its limited functionality.

Totally awesome! I'm so tired of ugly latex-speak in emails! Love it (:

Ubuntu users may want to install texlive-latex-extra for utf8x to work..

When I am running latexit I am getting the following massage

" *** Found expression $A^2$convert failed with error code 1.

Aborting.Possible explanations include:

- you're running Windows, and you didn't install Ghostscript

- you're running OSX, and you didn't launch Thunderbird from a Terminal

Please see http://github.com/protz/LatexIt/wiki "

Though I have already installed ghostscript. I am using windows 7 (64 bit) with thunderbird 6.01 and latexit 0.6.2.

Any help to solve this problem?

With Regards

Apurba Paul

Hi, this add-on is excellent.

The only issue is with baselines, as already pointed out. Why don't you use dvipng, which can report baseline (if the "preview" package is in use), and is much faster? That's what e.g. sphinx does (http://sphinx.pocoo.org/ext/math.html#confval-pngmath_use_preview).

A minor remark: the icon should use transparency for anti-aliasing (is that possible?), I have dark theme and it looks strange, with white pixels at the \Sigma border.

Thanks!

I wrote many mails including several formulas. When I am composing the mail, I can see inlined formulas correctly. However, when the mail is sent, they are not transmitted. The received mail cannot display the images and displays the alt text. If it is useful, the received source code is

<tt><img
style=3D"vertical-align: middle" src=3D"file:///" alt=3D"$\LaTe=
X$"></tt>

I guess there is a problem with file:///.

I use Windows 7 x64 and thunderbird 5. Thanks.

Nice add-on, but it seems to be incompatible with "Automatic dictionary 1.1.0" - the 'LaTeX It!' button disappears if I enable that other add-on.

Looks like a great add-on. The only small gripe is that the equations are sometimes not aligned with the rest of the line, but I can see why this would be difficult to achieve .. and I can always write the full line in LaTeX should it really bothered me ;-)
It would also be nice to list packages needed to use the default template - it took me a while to find out I needed the unicode (ucs on texlive) package to get the utf8x encoding...

Excellent add-on.

I had the same issue as MrJonDoe, however I was able to add the "Latex It" button manually, and now the add-on works without any issues. To add the button, open a new e-mail, right-click on the toolbar (say next to "Save" ) and press customize. Find "Latex It" in the list of available buttons and drag to the toolbar.

I used it a lot in the past (the reason of my 5 stars) but now, I'm experiencing a problem.
Indeed, I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 with Thunderbird 3.1.7 and the "Latex It" button does not appear when I write a mail.
The configuration is OK (the 3 progs are detected and status is OK) but the button "Latex It" does not appear ! Impossible to use it, then !
How to solve this problem ?
Thanks in advance !

Please disable all other extensions. Mr tech toolkit and things such as spam fighters are known to cause problems, there are several other threads on the mozilla.dev.apps.thunderbird newsgroup telling similar stories. Please do tell me if that helps in any way, because I haven't been able to reproduce the problem on my side. Thanks!

Many, many, many thanks for this add-on.
I do research in computer sciences and I was very often embarrassed to send latex equations to people as I wasn't sure they understand them. Not every people are fluent in LaTeX.

Well done, it works fine. I've read only now the workaround for the 64 bit version of image magick but the addon is always useful. I'm using it for the emails that i must write for my thesis.

Very nice add-on. The added complexity as compared to "Equations" is more than compensated for by the ability to use standard LaTeX in a very general way.

One issue I'm having is alignment. The alignment quality of in-line equations is seemingly random, although it seems to be biased toward being too low (below the text line). Frequently, it is rather poor. It is difficult to fix even if I want to spend the time trying to adjust the image placement manually (which I don't!).

Do you have any tips on how to maximize the alignment quality?

Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (0.5) del componente aggiuntivo.

Well no, I don't have any tip. The thing is that the process crops everything around the formula once LaTeX has been run, so there is no way for me to know where the baseline is. Maybe I should use some "trick" involving rectangles drawn around the formula, but for now, I don't have any idea.

But please, contact me by email as you're probably never going to read this reply.

Very good addon. Had a problem when installing in Windows 64 bit. But it was related to convert and ghostscript. The solution is here http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15056&p=52937&hilit=gswin32c#p52945
(I used the 64b versions of both)
