Hello,
At this moment I have not yet installed the add-on,
but will soon install it to test it.
What I would like to say:
I am impressed about the fact that the software developer,
frequently responds to questions from users.
It means that the developer stands behind its product.
Way to go, Christof Efkemann.
There should be more developers like you,
which react if a user has a question about his software.
Thank you.
Sweet

Works well, really could use a "disinfect" option. (If you are looking for such an option, and even works for IE, try Clam Sentinel) Add a"disinfect" option and I'd give this 5 stars.

I am german but in English: Great ClamAV/ClamWin addon!Unfortunately it seams so that the support with ClamWin's latest release 0.97.2 seems to be broken (and some versions earlier). Can you provide a fix/update?It seems that the results, commands returned by ClamWin (clamscan.exe) might have changed.Would be great if you could make this add-on useable again and I keep spreading word about it; just like it!Perhaps also a post in the official ClamWin forums would be great to make people aware of your work!Nevertheless, THANKS for FireClam (and ClamWin)!
Edit:
Thanks Christof for your swift reply, I checked out the configuration and the path to the ClamWin Database has pointed to the "clamwin\lib" folder instead of the correct one "ProgramData\.clamwin\db". Works like a charm now. :)
Sorry, I'm afraid this must be a problem with your installation. Fireclam works perfectly with ClamWin 0.97.2.
Nonetheless, thank you for your review!
(For further information please send an e-mail to the support address, as this place is meant only for reviews, not bug reports.)

Works PERFECT!!!
"Fireclam has determined the following file to be infected:
/home/brian/f-prot-Reports/TesViruses/eicarcom2.zip
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/home/brian/f-prot-Reports/TesViruses/eicarcom2.zip: Eicar-Test-Signature FOUND"
Now to see if linux commands works with it? like ( --move=DIRECTORY Move infected files into DIRECTORY
)
Thanks & God Bless,

Just want to say thank you, for updating this to work with Firefox 4.
This add on works just as it should, working perfectly in Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.

sorry for the double post... and by the way, a way to block/hide the file until it is verified OK (temporary dir ?) and a button or right click action in the download window would be nice too.

Hi
This is without a doubt one of the addons you can't run firefox without ! Runs like a charm here for quite a while without any crash, scanning various desktop, multimedia and archive formats files of any sizes (from a few Ko to hundreds of Mo).
So, AFAIC, the only improvement I can think of would be to be able to choose between clamscan and clamwin so that I can have a "nice" GUI jumping at my users with progress indication and colorful warning + tray and e-mail notification.
Thanks again for this nice piece of software

Hi,
First many many thanks for this great addon that really do the job. Big Up !
Then, this morning, I tested attachavscan extension for thunderbird wich does quite the same for our preferred mailer...
What I like in the later is that I can configure ClamWin to be executed instead of ClamScan so that my users see a "nice" GUI window with scan progress and coloured result + tray notification instead of a "frightening" command window.
Thanks again and please keep coding on

I've a laptop - A Macbook. I prefer to use ClamXav. Almost the same, but it's got some features (a 'sentry' that launches at login) that I couldn't find with Fireclam.

Good idea, linux is not too useful, but it works.

The idea of the plugin itself is really great, but there's one problrm preventing me from installing this plugin as a default in my office.
If the downloaded file is stored in a directory. the full path to which consists only of ASCII symbols, it's OK. Otherwise, if path to saved file contains non-ASCII characters (e.g. from national alphabets other than English), they are changed for random garbage while calling ClamScan, thus resulting in inability to check the file (clamscan can't locate the file to scan because the path to it, which is passed as command line paremeter, is distorted by calling program).
This also may be the result of difference in ANSI and OEM codepages - if path to file is given in one codepage, while expected in an another, this causes the problem reported above.
This problem should be fixed in Fireclam version 0.6.5.

As installed, the default program pointed to ClamWin.exe, which is the windows GUI and NOT the scanner program.
I changed it to .....\ClamWin\bin\clamscan.exe and away-we-go !

Re: every file is infected?
My error. I see that I put /usr/sbin/clamd for the executable, as some other ClamAV tool had similar settings. The correct setting here (on the Ubuntu machine) is /usr/bin/clamdscan (clamd is running).

Currently I cannot recommend to use clamdscan.
- I haven't tested it with Fireclam yet
- Fireclam might not understand clamdscan's return values correctly
- The daemon might not be able to scan a downloaded file due to file permissions.
- I recently got a report that using clamdscan can cause Firefox to crash
So please use clamscan rather than clamdscan.

Under Ubuntu 9.04,just every file download pops up a window saying it is infected. This is not true. Scans with the same clamdscan on the machine show no problems, and tests on PCs with other AV software show no problems. I'm talking about even pdf files.

This would be a lot more useful if you could exclude file types to be scanned (it crashes Firefox when some file types are downloaded to the temp directory), and if there was a visual indicator that the scan was still in progress (so that you don't launch a file until it is completely scanned).
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (0.6.1) del componente aggiuntivo.Could you give me an example of a file types that crashes Firefox, so I can fix the problem?

It wouldn't be too bad if it worked with spyware terminator with ClamAV installed with it. I wouldn't install ClamAV by itself unless it was in a bundle like spyware terminator. Otherwise this may be a good addon for firefox.

Fireclam is, in a way, a step towards Clamwin's real-time scanner, so it's a great add-on.
The problem is that it sometimes crashes my Firefox, usually several times in a row, and then it works perfectly for a long period of time. I know it's still a beta version so I hope this will be fixed, when possible ;)
EDIT : I had disabled fireclam because it seemed it was crashing my FF, but since the upgrade to FF 3.5.2 it has worked perfectly. It has been stable for over a week now.
Could you send me a bug report with some more details to fireclam@googlemail.com? So far, you seem to be the only one who has this problem.
