ExQuilla is great addon and actually IS worth spending 10$ a year.
I'm also a company worker and of course I can use MS Outlook or web access for free. But because I prefere Thunderbird I found ExQuilla just the solution I need. It's fast, works fine and Kent James is doing great job to make it better. Why so many people think it should be for free? OWA is free - you can use it if that's your choice. Or you can write your own Mozilla Addon.
I have just purchased my license.

As an home office worker i can choose my email client. Because my company use exchange and pay for it, and because i prefer Thunderbird, i found this FREE addon, and it's really great !.... My disappointment is unlimited because now, if i don't to want to change again my client, i have to pay for this addon !!!!If i prefer stay in a free configuration (i mean for me, not for my company), i should use again Outlook web app (it's totally absurd !!!! o_O' )Rkent, please reconsider differents cases, because most of workers using your addon, actually don't pay for the exchange server but their company do ! You should use a donation system at first to see what will happen. Workers are able to reward things make their jobs easier and better. But most of them are not ready to pay fees every year for their company (it's not an amount problem, but a philosophy)

Worked reasonably well. My university has student e-mail on the same locked-down system as the hospital, so this was (I thought) the only way to get Office 365 into Thunderbird (or into Linux at all!). Unfortunately, it is buggy and the developer is caught between two rapidly-changing systems, Micro$oft and TB. TB upgrades often break ExQuilla. I also had occasional crashes and TB "hanging" in memory when closing. That, plus confusion over the free trial period, I bailed.
I have moved to using a DavMail gateway that was much easier to setup than feared and it works great on several devices.

It's unfortunate that users don't read addon description. It's even more unfortunate that users trashtalk about paid addons.
Thunderbird lost most of it's support from Mozilla because they couldn't find way to monetize it. If you want good, complex and supported addon, you can't expect that for free.
Addons can be bad, not functional, lacking functions, crashy, buggy etc... but you can't trashtalk addon because you have to pay for it.
You as an user always have a choice of not using it.

ETA--Support fixed my search problem quickly. Thanks!
Works pretty well--my only problem with it is sometimes search results won't actually let me open the emails it finds, and I have to switch to Outlook to do my searching. Otherwise works as advertised.
The issue that you mention has not been raised before, could you please file a support request and provide more details?

It's decent for basic reading/writing emails, but...
1) there's nothing to distinguish a mail message from a meeting request. After I get an email, I have to check my Android phone's *stock* mail app to see if the message was actually a meeting request. Big pain, as I often forget to do this.
2) minor: doesn't refresh the 'message read' status properly, so I have to click back and forth on a directory to force it to clear the 'unread' status on the dir.
On the plus side, since my original review, the "Save All" Attachments button/right-click functions properly now -- thanks!
On the downside, since http://www.zdnet.com/mozilla-scraps-thunderbird-development-email-client-not-a-priority-anymore-7000000469/ , I'm really not sure I want to pay for add-ons.
1) The UI for meeting requests is part of Lightning. If you have Lightning installed, you should see details of meeting requests. If not, this is a bug and please file a support request.
2) This is a known issue, but technically the flag you are talking about is the "New" flag and not the "Unread" flag.
Thanks for the fair and reasonable review.

Been using this for a few months now. Just what I needed to access my work's Exchange email with Thunderbird instead of Outlook. Haven't managed to make it work remotely yet (haven't tried real hard either) but flawless performance while on site. Calendar support would be nice but even without it I'll happily shell out my $10 when the free licence runs out.
To all the people whining about the 'scam' of a programmer who might expect to profit from their work, I saw right at the start that this would eventually be a paid add-on. If you couldn't be bothered reading about the add-on before you installed it, that's your problem not his. I also haven't experienced any popup nags.

Appendix works well but I miss one thing and do not know how to get around. No date on the printed email from today, is only an hour. Maybe someone knows?

Four stars for not working on my FreeBSD systems. Linux plug-in works perfectly, even through a couple of Exchange server version upgrades.

Had no trouble downloading the addon and getting it to work for email with my exchange server. Tried to get calendar to work but the directions on the developers site aren't corresponding to current Thunderbird, and when I asked about I got a snarky response from R K James. Disappointing.

functionality stopped without notice, asking for payment. Frankly, even if he made it free at this point he's lost all trust with me. This crosses the line into scam and I am reporting it to mozilla
- in reply to the developer - i guess its just a coincidence that the payment notice came up and add on stopped working. in any event you NEVER said it was pay - it was advertised as free - so this is still deceptive- and as you can see there are many other reviews with similar experiences as mine
.-in second reply to the developer: it seems the pay message has been removed. I hope this is permanent, but it was disturbing that it was there in the first place. I am all for supporting developers of plug ins like these - but in the future, please chose a more prudent way to go about changing your model. Thank you.
ExQuilla has never made a request for payment, and no functionality is currently restricted by license. What HAS occurred is that users have been warned that there eventually will be a need for a license, and they are offered a free 6 month license that will work in a future version.

I used this for a while, in the hopes to avoid having to use DavMail to access exchange. While this addon does work, it causes Thunderbird to be extremely slow, have constant high CPU usage, and crash fairly regularly. Not only this, but as of a recent version, it pops up a message asking for payment. Complete bullshit.

Been using it for a few months now, was hoping to get Exchange functionality into Thunderbird so that I didn't have to use OWA (I use Linux).
Plus points:
It receives mail.
It gets my contacts.
Negative points:
Makes Thunderbird run like a dog.
No access to calendars.
Does something horrible with meeting requests.
Have to use OWA anyway.
Got a pop-up telling me that I'd have to pay to continue using it. I would pay if it was useful, but it's worse than useless, so I'll be getting rid of it.

Good stuff. It would be perfect if released under a Free Software license.

It's great: I can read mail company mail from everywhere again without needing the OWA website.
However it's not entirely perfect: I miss syncing of the 'flagged' state. It helps my prioritise my mail and flagged mails in OWA don't show up starred in Thunderbird. This works when using IMAP with the same server (but this isn't available outside our intranet).

Worked like a charm after I entered my domain/username information and found my company's EWS address. Thanks!
