Notes on "Fix for the oversize Launchy button in Fx3"
Not being familiar with Launchy or Stylish - but wanting to use Launchy - it took me a few moments to figure this out:
In David McRitchie's very helpful, "RE: Fix for the oversize Launchy button in Fx3," the "launchy.xml" file HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FIXING THE LAUNCHY ICON. You simply install Stylish and then the style in David's instructions.
Even though the launchy.xml file has nothing to do with fixing the launchy icon, tt turned out to be quite handy since I use HTML-Kit and the launch.xml file has the XML for HTML-Kit!

It didn't launch WMP. It still downloads first. Still looking for a solution!

Typical Windows-centric development without regard for much of the rest of the world. In my installation, no icon appeared (despite the complaint of others about the LARGE icon); right-clicking (yes, on a Mac) showed the Launchy item, but selecting it showed it disabled. In the Addons configuration (in the Tools menu) I could easily determine that it was enabled (and I toggled it on and off, at some expense of time relaunching FireFox), but its preferences were blank. There is also no developer or user site that indicated what the General tab in the preferences should contain (or what the terms referred to - it appears, again, Windows-centric) EXCEPT for .xml configuration, which also appears very Windows-centric.
It's not even really what I wanted (I need a reliable mailto: webmail launcher for a client), but I'm surprised at the poor implementation and the total lack of documentation.

I installed this to use the FTP links with Filezilla. It did not detect Filezilla. I don't know if the problem is version related, but It doesn't even allow you to type in the path if it does not automatically recognize it. This was a waste of time.

Launchy is one of my favorites because it is customizable.
In Firefox 3 the Launchy toolbar button wastes space on the toolbar with it's dropdown. The solution is to install the "Stylish" extension and then to install the following Style.

My example of launchy.xml can be found at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/code/launchy.txt
where I include browsers that were not automatically picked
up, and I can invoke other Firefox profiles as well, rather
than always having to go through Windows Quick Launch.

For the other Firefox profiles note the use of a specific profile and the use of "-no-remote" because they are not the default profiles and not the default browser because that might be another Firefox version.

I love this add on and I've used it for a long time. However with the recent release of Google Chrome it needed to be manually added. Below is the code if you JUST want to add Google Chrome and nothing more. If you have a launchy.xml file already, just insert from to
Google Chrome
1
C:\Users\Alejandra\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe
Google Chrome
1
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

Has some problems recognizing all applications, but manual configuration via launchy.xml can be used as workaround

Doesnt work. Does not show other applications, than the default ones. Launchy.xml gets ignored by the addon itself.

won't open with the default windows associated external application like a midi player which can't be seen from Launchy external application list.

In order to get this working with windows media player I had to comment out line 404 in main.js
//launchyShared.trace("About to run:\n" + app_exe + " " + args);
I suspect 'args' is not a valid string.
Thanks!

Perfect, just what i was looking for. It does the missing link to VLC, now i can directly stream Media, instead of downloading first.
One issue i got is that it doesn't open forced downloads. May be in the next update :)
cheers,
keep up the good work!

It's fantastic but I still wish I could reduce the size of the 'G' icon, as it's too big

Fantastic extension and I'm still waiting for the FF3.0 version.

I really like Launchy. I would *really* like it if there were a way to configure it to launch a particular external app for a link by default or by some combination of shift/ctrl/alt, rather than always having to navigate the context menu of a link.
Or at the very least there should be a a letter to select launchy within the context menu so i don't have to use my mouse.

I wrote some codes for Google Chrome and Safari on the launchy.xml .
When From Firefox 3, i call Chrome, Chrome opens two new tabs, one tab's addressbar displays 'http://browser/', but another one displays correct URL.
Trying Safari, it opens with one tab, and addressbar display Browser%20 + correct URL.
Why is it so when calling WebKit browsers?

Works fine under Gentoo, although I use an XML file so it may or may not auto-detect apps

Good idea, but doesn't seem to be working with Vista... Could be a security problem.
