Great plugin but it doesn't work with Firefox ESR 17 for Macs. When will FireFTP be updated to work with the ESR track on Macs?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.13.1-signed).

Version 2.0.7 will work with version 17. You can find it here:

If you can't access or create accounts (dropdown select is blank) or have a "gSiteManager is undefined" error you'll probably appreciate answer nr 2 on the FireFTP help page: http://fireftp.net/help.html

Really good FTP program!

1. FileZila support synchonized browsing (you open your local DIR - remote one is automaticaly opened without any your additional action). / ! I was wrong: there are synch browsing. ! /
2. FileZila have option "Overwrite if source file is newer" and that is great. Couldn't find the same in FireFTP.
3. But... why I like FireFTP: the only FTP client that I could find so far, that support cyrillic (probably all unicode charatcetrs too) on the Lynux remote server! Now you can work with the same normal names (DIR or FILE) instead of names -> abracadabra. Thanks to developer.

<deleted>Maybe first 2 issues could be added?</deleted>
Maybe the second issue could be added?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.13.1-signed).

Option 1 is available with FireFTP actually :) Go to your account's settings under the Connection tab and setup 'Keep directories in sync while navigating'
I'll consider Option 2 for future versions.

Glad to hear the Unicode support is going well for you!

Cheers :)

I've had some issues with other FTP clients but none with FireFTP. Also, I love the fact that it's portable - I use it both on Windows and Linux. If I had a Mac, I'd be using it there, too.

I have question.... Is it safer FTP client then Filezilla?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.13.1-signed).

It's as safe as Filezilla, as far as I know! It's better to use SFTP or FTPS. For any FTP client, the FTP protocol itself can be insecure (in the same way HTTP is insecure but HTTPS isn't). Hope that helps!

I've truly loved using your add-ons over the years. I don't know what I'll have to do if you stop development and I'm forced to go back to PenguiNet, SecureCRT, FileZilla, or similar. But I don't have to worry about that right now, thankfully! I'm running the Nightly 23a1 (2013-04-18) and I can use FireFTP fine. Servers can be added and connected to. File transfers can be initiated, etc. However, after visiting http://i.imgur.com/5BpUxrG.png you may see the annoying error that's constantly scrolling. Any ideas? Thank you for all of your hard work on FireFTP and FireSSH. These two add-ons are everything I've ever looked for in a client. No one program has ever truly satisfied me, yet your Firefox add-on's go above and beyond and I love them. If we can get this bug squashed, expect a donation your way for the trouble. Oh and as I suggested last year, let’s get a reliable pause button back. It's the only feature missing! On second thought, I've lowered my rating by one star to until a few concerns are addressed. Of course the ones, above such as constant breaking of listTree.js with nightly builds and a pause button. I know it isn't your responsibility to keep up with the nightly builds, but it what is it about listTree.js that likes to break with every update and can it be helped? That brings me to my third suggestion. I see on GitHub you uploaded a revision of listTree.js that includes a fix for Firefox 22, and presumably 23. I'd love to have that version but your developer’s link is incredibly out of date and I would have to build the add-on from scratch, lose auto update ability, etc. How great would it be to add a nightly development channel to your developer’s site where us bleeding edge type of guys can download alpha builds generated daily by a script? That simple addition would address all but the pause button and probably make a lot of people happy. Give it some thought, as it seems to be fairly easy to implement.Edit: Thanks for the response, I see you just uploaded 2.0.14 with the fix for Firefox 22. Although I'm on Firefox 23 (2013-05-08), I'll give it a shot and report back, possibly increasing my rating for FireFTP to 5 stars. Did you ever give any thought to the pause button or nightly developer’s channel? Most largely used add-ons have them and being as you literally own the market with FireFTP and FireSSH, it would be so extremely helpful. Most of the Firefox community has moved to Nightly builds since they are pretty stable and much, much, faster.

Edit #1: It seems the issue was fixed, mostly. After disconnecting from a site, and upon opening the connection manager, I'm presented with this error."Error message= TypeError: props is undefinedURL= chrome://fireftp/content/js/remote/remoteDirTree.jsLine Number= 25"Though only once and not a mass flood, so that's nice. I'm going to go ahead and bump my rating back up. Hopefully you can iron out the kinks completely soon. I feel like I've never had a fully working version of FireFTP, but we're getting there! Thank you Mime for all of your hard work!

Hello,
that's a known issue with the nightly - it will be fixed soon (such is the dangers of using nightlies :)

I'll consider the request for a nightly build - we shall see! Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you very much for this useful AddOn. I am using it for a very long time now and am really happy.

Unfortunately I got a little issue since the last update and I hope, there is an explaination and simple solution: The window flickers (wich is quite annoing).

Does anyone has an idea, how to solve that? Thank you very much in advance.

This is a great little addon for replacing dedicated FTP programs like FileZilla. It supports resuming downloads, which is the main reason I downloaded it. Nice and fast, and it’s good to have it built into a browser.

One thing I’ve tried, but not been able to do so far, is to create a desktop shortcut in Windows that will open FireFTP. I’ve tried adding a shortcut to Firefox with "chrome://fireftp/content/fireftp.xul" as a parameter, but that doesn’t open anything at all (Firefox doesn’t even start). Would be great to figure this out!

Update: I’ve found that I can create a new profile in Firefox, set the homepage in the new profile to FireFTP, then create a desktop shortcut to the new profile like "firefox.exe -p fireftp". This works great, and I can also disable all the toolbars, tab bar, etc so it makes FireFTP look like a standalone program!

After the last Problem (look my Problem down), i can not use FireFTP anymore. I delete the fireFTPsites.dat by hand and install FireFTP new. After this the Programm works normaly and i can work with FireFTP now.

I watched carefully to my profile, I have found no trace of the specified characters in the answer to Patrice le March (4, 2013). However FireFTP does not work on my computer for almost two months.
How do I delete all files FireFTP and leave with a clean install?

Sorry that you've run into this issue. The new version of FireFTP is doing migration of an old account format to a new one. Unfortunately, there are some illegal characters that make it difficult to upgrade to the new format that Mozilla now requires. (specifically, the combination of trying to convert international characters and the '%' character creates problems).

If 2.0.7 isn't working for you, you can try the following:

find your profile folder, here are instructions: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data (if you're on a Mac it'll be under: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles)
find the file in your profile folder called fireFTPsites.dat
remove the '%' characters found in the file.
remove any characters that start with \x,
remove any characters that might have umlauts (like ä)
install version 2.0.7 and readd the % characters back in later as needed. (not directly into the file, but via the regular FireFTP interface).
The same applies for the files you're trying to import. If you have further issues, email me http://nightlight.ws/mime/about/contact and I'll help further.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience,
Mime

What is happening? Its just about me? Since Ver. 2.09 the account manager is broken! Can't see accounts, nor create or edit accounts. If I return to 2.07, voila, get back all accounts...
