I was looking to for a replacement for the Google Reader, since I was removing myself from all things Google. I was able to export (before I closed my account) all of my feeds right into Bamboo Reader without any hassle. This add-on was a nice surprise in that it works very well, and is very easy to navigate. I have about 300 RSS subscriptions, and it handles them without hesitation. Also, I am glad I didn't have to bother with a standalone program, like FeedDemon. It is so convenient having it available in Firefox, which makes the browser twice as functional for me. Thanks!

The new version with the tabbed interface is really great. I'm having a problem though: hovering the mouse on a news item pops up a constantly flickering gray rectangle, could probably be related with some other addon. And, in the tabbed interface, it would be very nice if the left pane (containing the feed list) could be displayed in the sidebar.

EDIT: It looks like Bamboo Feed Reader has this problem when it is in the tabbed mode and a vertical tabbar addon (like Tree Style Tab or Vertical Tabs) is active. I've posted the issue to Google Groups. I will also post the sidebar issue as a feature request there.

EDIT: It is fixed in version 1.1.2. Thanks.

I have fixed some bugs with link popups and it should work properly now.
Please try in a new profile to be sure that it's due to another add-on.

I don't know how to use a sidebar without completely change the reader interface.
I don't really understand. You can send me an email about that if you want.

The add-on shows up in the list of add-ons to Thunderbird, but when I had installed it, I could not for the life of me understand where to configure it, how to specify any feeds or for that matter read the feeds. I went through all the menus, icons, customization options, preferences, accounts - but if it was there, it was well camouflaged! Perhaps it was conflicting with something else, but the additional add-ons I have installed are stuff that I am not willing to give up in order to have a rss reader in Thunderbird 8.0.

Update: It seems to work nicely in Firefox, though. Just one typo I've noticed: where it's saying "Mark as readed", I guess it should be "Mark as read".

Update2: Ok, thanks for the response; it explained it all. In order to save some screen estate, I had moved all icons out of the mail toolbar and closed that. And somehow it never crossed my mind that that could be the culprit. Thank you; updating rating.

Thanks for the review.

After installing the add-on, the button should be added to the mail toolbar.
If it does not work you can find the button in the pallete (Menu "View", "Toolbars", "Customize") and add it everywhere in the interface.

The next version will add a way to open the reader from the "Tools" menu.

Finally the RSS reader I was looking for. I have lost count how many readers I have tried the last couple of years. Although there are already excellent readers for Firefox, this one combines everything I wanted. The fact that it doesn't open on a new tab or sidebar, but as an overlay dialog is awesome. It is not obtrusive, it is easy to check new feeds without leaving the page, but still have enough space to make reading pleasant. Performance is great and the search capabilities is exactly what I need to keep track of important subjects. Keep up the good work.

It doesn't seem like Bamboo supports slashdot rss feeds.
http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot
http://rss.slashdot.org/slashdot/classic

And actually a bunch of my rss feeds didn't seem to be imported because of some incompatibility.
I wish there was another way to contact you. I didn't want to set a rating, I'll fix it when I get your response.

Excellent lecteur rss (le point faible selon moi de firefox) avec beaucoup d'options et de facilité d'utilisation.

Agree with earlier remarks about 'view' in tab.
Now it 'jumps' on changing from list to content display
I would find it easier when the feeds are in a Bamboo folder like SAGE does.
I don't know, do not understand, how to make a feeds a favorite

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1.1-signed).

To make a feed a favorite just select the feed and click on the "star" button of the menu.

The add-on you talk about is based on Firefox feed management but NOT Bamboo which also works on Thunderbird.
(If you use this module I am surprised that your rating is not higher)

Others points will be ok on the next version. (coming soon)
Thanks for the review.

Yes, a very good add-on.

Advantages: very nice look, well structured, easy access, quick RSS search, drag and drop functionality, avoid duplicates if the user doesn't want to, different and very friendly news display modes (list, content and in place web content), avoid multiple tabs and windows in the browser by using a very functional popup window, make used of a save search. Just Amazing.

Disadvantages: Not included in the tools menu, not included to add feed to a given group but you have to add first to the default location and later drag and drop the feed to the desired group.

Conclusions: The advantages overcomes the disadvantages but a new update with the disadvantage features implemented would make this add-on one of the top rated.

My rate: 4.8 stars

I'm glad you like this add-on, thanks for the review.

"Not included in the tools menu"
The menu will be present in the next version.

"not included to add feed to a given group but you have to add first to the default location and later drag and drop the feed to the desired group"
I thought about it and seen that the choice of group is the last step this way is the fastest way to add a feed.
Even if you change the group drag and drop is faster than selecting in a tree for example.

"Thanks for the review. The pop-up based interface is a main feature of this add-on. . . ."

Yes, it's unusual, but I'm getting comfortable with it; I've moved the button all the way to the left, which minimizes the resizing distractions.

". . . but i understand your wish. I will add an option to switch between tab and pop-up interfaces."

Fabulous! Thank you.

Also, I've been noticing that one or two feeds will "hang" sometimes and not time out, so that the rotating dots (the "working" symbol) on the button remains until Firefox is restarted. Possible bug?

I just see the loading problem with my brand-new slow Internet connection.
I will add a customizable timeout to solve this problem.
