ManuDevil, it's already updated, but for some reason it's not updated here on the mozilla.org site: http://www.zindus.com/blog/category/thunderbird-extension/

Rock on- does exactly what it says on the tin. Now I can talk to people across every device I use-- with Thunderbird for my work PC, Zimbra for remote PCs, and Google Contacts for my Android phone, I'm giving this a workout.

Super easy to setup.. no brainer.
Had to just say thank you to the developer as I tried 3 other add-on to try and sync TB to Gmail and this is the only one that I had success with.
Great job.

Works great on Linux. Doesn't work at all on Mac OS X 10.6.7 with Thunderbird 3.1.9. I put in my google credentials and try test connection and nothing happens. The OK button doesn't work, I can only press cancel and then nothing is added.

I had been using gContactSync for about a year when I happened upon Zindus in the Thunderbird "Get add-ons" window (Tools > Add-ons). Being only semi-satisfied with gContactSync I decided to give Zindus a try. Fast forward fifteen seconds (literally) and all my GMail contacts were synced perfectly (well, almost--see below) with Thunderbird, something I had almost given up on. I gave 4 stars, but really it is more like 4.5, and even then only because the Addresses did not sync from GMail.
The only issue I had was when trying to use "Sort Name By" to arrange my contacts by "First, Last" or "Last, First" (instead of Display Name). About a quarter of my contacts would then have no name. I looked into it and apparently these contacts had a display name but no first or last name. I only have about 150 contacts total, so I simply added a first and last name to the 40 or so without, and it's perfect. Thank you Zindus!

Something is wrong with mapping of the fields and updating contacts in Gmail. I have been using Thunderbird 3.1.9 for Windows 7 and Zindus 0.8.29. Some contacts never get synced, some fields don't update - like address. Counts of contacts don't match. I have been using Zindus on and off for last two years and sometimes noticed problems. I would have switched to other syncing addons, but others seemed to have worse problems so far. So so far, I am used to live with partially synced contacts and fix some of mismatches by hand. The worst mismatch is synking of name fields - Gmail has first and last name one way, but Thunderbird often has those blank and uses the screen name which is partly automatically generated. As a result some of the contacts in google end up with blank names. Since I am syncing my Gmail also to my blackberry, the contacts with blank names dont sync to blackberry. Alltogether the syncing ends up partial, with occasional duplicates.

VERY NICE, but:
Why does this add-on not sync contacts in the MY CONTACTS group that do not have an e-mail address? I'm sure I'm not the only person who has contacts that do not have e-mail, but do have a telephone number and therefore should be synced. I would simply like to use Thunderbrid (with this add-on) to manage all my Google contacts (in all groups, with or without an email address).
On the positive side, the setup was VERY EASY! Keep up the good work!

Very easy
I regret that the sync does not transfer the addresses groups from Thunderbird to Gmail

unkompliziert, zuverlässig und schnell
Eines der besten Add-on was ich kenne, und jedem weiterempfehlen kann.

I like its simplicity and functionality. I only wish that it read and recognized more address books, than just the "personal address book".
thank you very much for this add-on

Would love to see this add-on work with Thunderbird 3.3a1.

I have been using this add-on (ver. 0.8.29) with SeaMonkey on a Windows 7 machine for a couple of weeks on my main computer. It syncs with my Google standard account. Although I miss pictures, addresses, it gets the basic information like name, email, phone and fax along with notes (and Birthday's) down from the cloud to the computer where I can use it. (I sync around 500 contacts with different amounts of information, but I am not changing that information daily.)I have gone a little sync crazy over the last couple of years and sync my android phone, two "I" devices and three computers with that Google account. I was using Outlook and a 3rd party sync program prior to this, but the computer "died". Currently, two of the computers are now using Zindus with SeaMonkey. I recommend this add-on and hope the developer plans to expand it's capabilities in the area of pictures (I see that is planned for), and addresses (better handling) in the future.Thank you to the developer! (Ok, more personal, Thank you Leni!) Keep up the good work.
Followup... Just made a couple dozen changes (Mostly in Google mail, some in SeaMonkey address book and two on an IPad) to contact name, notes, email addresses and all synced smoothly and without error or duplication. Thanks again Leni.
(I like my pictures and addresses. That is why only 4 Stars. Function and quiet background performance is at 5* level.)

Setup was very easy, and the interface was very intuitive.
However, it just doesn't work. I expected that when I merged the two address books, I would have some duplicates and maintenance to do. In my case, almost all of my approximately 150 Google Contacts imported into Thunderbird without a name. I now have a mess of a contact list, and I am afraid to try and repair it at the risk of losing any of my data, because it appears that something as simple as the First and Last name fields do not transfer.
Adam, Google only activated support for first+last name sync a little while ago, the addon doesn't support it yet but it's on the http://zindus.com/i/roadmap

This add-on looked good, and it synced my contacts from Gmail into Thunderbird, but as soon as I made some modifications and tried to sync them back to Gmail I had lost everything; none of the hundreds of contacts I had were spared from being overwritten.
Luckily the Google Sync application on my BlackBerry was more robust than Zindus and I was able to sync all of my contacts back into my Gmail account, though I had to redo the modifications I had made once I was finished scrubbing this add-on from my computer.

Zindus has completely trashed my contacts in Google. I now not only have multiple duplicates (in some cases over 20 for one contact) but also missing contacts that I'll now have to restore from a backup.
If you still want to try this, I highly advise you to take a backup first. I'm uninstalling mine now.

All I can say is I'm very unhappy with this software. The product does not gracefully handle internet connection issues or synchronizations where there are great numbers that has changed. Big changes would indicate a problem requiring forced interaction. Xmarks does this very well and they could learn to handle sync issues better. Wow, all my contacts are completely destroyed now. I only found out there was a problem because my wife called me this morning and her phone number did not bring up a contact!
