just messing around w/ ie 9 and my left blue chat column returned in FF 6 - the text. was using many quick fixes in pref for hiding which google? seemed to circumvent on a reg basis, anyway. this worked right out of the box to hide that %&*% left blue column! thanks

Now work perfectly fine. I use it to block the thing I don't want to see, especially the site I don't want anyone to surf using my computer. Open it and meet the completely blank page, what's left is the logo!

Adblock is far more useful with this installed. Without this, element hiding is very difficult and error prone. Don't know why it isn't built in.

Equipped w. 3 diff. add-ons for saving "covered" images. This one is a must-have for permenent remove the undesired objects and allow me to save the real image, other than the transperent gif, within the same website automatically, and using "Nuke Anything Enhanced" for temp. usage! brovo!

There is absolutely NO reason anyone should have to go through the methods you have mentioned. The majority of the Firefox community are not developers and expect an add-on to work properly without having to rebuild it before they can use it. Obviously, the developer of this add-on is unable to fix the problems. The Element Hiding Helper still works, you just have to click on the ABP icon and initiate it manually.

If you get problems with short cut combinations e.g. web console under firefox 4 using CTRL+SHIFT+K.
Try installing KeyConfig extension from http://mozilla.dorando.at/
Once installed, bring up the Keyconfig options & set "abort element selection" to your preferred combination, locate combination duplicate from list & re-assign or remove.
If you get an add-on that comes up as disabled you can TRY modifying the <em:maxVersion> number in the install.rdf file for this extension
How:
Download the extension to your desktop
open the .xpi file in an archive prog e.g. 7-Zip (associate the file type with prog if needed)
Open install.rdf file in notepad or similar, search file for <!-- firefox -->
Just below there is an entry labelled <em:maxVersion>
Change the number that follows for example <em:maxVersion>5.0.*</em:maxVersion>
Save file & update archive, drag into firefox to install.

Installed successfully on Firefox 5, works perfectly. This functionality should be incorporated into the main AdBlock+ add-on.
