Aunque un poco tediso el metodo es bastante bueno, asi sincronizco Gmail y todas mis centrales SMTP con gran facilidad con un complemento y eliminando duplicados.

I merged my Palm Desktop contacts with Thunderbird, and this extension was a life-saver! For continued usage, a way to keep (and ignore) multiple entries for one contact may be helpful.

Entfernt zuverlässig doppelte Kontakte. Das ist besonders empfehlenswert, wenn die Kontakte mehrere Emailadressen benutzen und so mehrfach geführt werden.

I use it on a weekly basis and i feel the module could already be version 1.0, considering that i've not seen it crash for years. This module definitely helps dealing with contacts management, which is greatly impaired in thunderbird since it's not possible to have 2 contact windows open simultaneously.

It should now focus toward duplicate identification and also *merge* :
+add a possibility to edit a set of 2 entries without removing one of them.
+single button copy of one field from contact 2 to contact one (or the contrary)

Excelent idea, but I think it has to perform the test in batch. In the present is very slow and takes a long time.
I have many Eric Lee (...example...) in my contacts, and the process request my continuos attention - skip skip skip...
The best: find out all the duplicates in batch and manage them in a second step.

The idea is great. I like the way it works.

But there are some serious bugs:
- when copying information from one contact to an other and delete the first one, I got some error message and the copied information was lost in nirvana
- after installing the add-on there are unnecessary blank lines between entries in contact previews, which cost space and overview and won't go away without disabling DCM

As others mentioned before, an option to move contacts instead of deleting them would protect you from losing data in case of malfunctioning.
Furthermore I'd prefer being shown all contacts that contain eg. the same email address all at once to chose the one(s) to keep and the one(s) to (re)move.

I'll continue using this add-on with some caution and disable it when not in use. I'm looking forward for some adjustments.

Good but there is space for improvements.

Very good Add-On. Does what it advertises, but has a few faults nonetheless.
Sometimes you have to manually correct some items, but much more importantly I agree with John Pang: as soon as you're done with the duplicates turn it off, or you'll have no joy with your Thunderbird GUI.

Work well when need to sort out the address book. But once you sort out the address book, need to disable it. It has problem on Thunderbird 2.0.0.19 with Mac OS 10.5.6 (or even older).

Problem will cause Thunderbird unstable, search function not working (broken UI) and then search window does not appears and you must force quit thunderbird.

Works great, if a little slow.

Would love to see auto save contacts managed on the fly - ie send a message and immediately get asked if address should be saved and how.

I'm with Gringo and nbj: Works reliably but too slowly, and would be better presenting a list of dupes rather than one at a time. That way you could go off and do something useful rather than waiting to process one dupe at a time. However it fills a very real need and I am grateful for it.

It's good as far as it goes. But when I use it I find that for about half my entries I want more than a simple choice of keeping one and trashing the other. For example, one may have an e-mail address but the other has a phone number. So what I have to do is stop the process, find the two and manually update the one I want to save and delete the other. Then I restart the duplicate finder. It then has to start over from the beginning.
How about some checkboxes next to the fields or something so we can do some merging?

The user interface and the logic of this gem of an add-on are both perfect. It is a wee bit slow with 500 contacts, but not enough of an issue to detract from its five star rating. If only the various address sync ultilities were as good as this one!
